24.01.2022 The Australian Border Force Act came into effect today. Staff working in detention centres could face 2 years jail time for speaking out about atrocities such a...s child abuse and human rights violations. It's the kind of thing you would expect in a country that does not believe in DEMOCRACY, FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or HUMAN RIGHTS. Art work by 'visualante'. 09.01.2022 Via: Robert Silvestrini - Breaking Bolt Open. I had an interesting discussion with a friend of mine today who is a small business owner (coffee shop) and theref...ore a beneficiary of the LNP's proposed tax cuts. He told me that the tax cut he will receive WILL NOT result in him employing extra staff or investing in more/better equipment for his business (e.g. a $6000 toaster). He said that the only circumstances under which he would employ extra staff or invest further in his business would be if MORE people started coming through his front door i.e. MORE clients. In the absence of more clients, he will simply pocket the tax cuts. He then told me that, in his opinion, the tax cuts should be given to people on low/moderate income thereby increasing their disposable income and thereby enticing MORE of them to go and spend more money in his business. He referred to this as the "trickle up" effect whereby: a). MORE clients = need for more staff and more/better equipment (e.g. $6000 toaster) b). MORE clients = more goods purchased from suppliers to the business (e.g. coffee, sugar, milk, eggs, bread, etc) c). MORE clients = higher profits for the business (him) I'm not an economist but I find it difficult to argue with his logic and it makes a lot of sense to me
