24.01.2022 BREAKING :- NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has appeared to back down somewhat on his threat to lead fellow National MPs in moving to the back-bench and withdrawing vital support for Legislation. #marcuspaulinthemorning Speaking with Alan Jones on SKY, Mr Barilaro said to give up Ministerial positions would effectively water down his parties influence in key decision making by the Government.... Mr Barilaro also confirmed that Premier Berejicklian ordered him to back down today in a tense meeting - or provide her with his resignation by 9am in the morning. Barilaro said he would meet once again with his colleagues before making a final decision. However all signs are that the Nationals Leader will effectively back down and retain his place in Cabinet. We have reached out to John and invited him on the show, and (as usual) have been told the Premier is "Not available". All the wash up, including a chat with Planning Minister Rob Stokes on the show in the morning. - Marcus .

24.01.2022 We need a strategic base for our Bushfire Fighting Fleet in NSW. Here's why! #marcuspaulinthemorning This morning on the show we spoke to Susan Templeman about the findings into the Bushfire Royal Commission.... Susan argues, and I agree, The RAAF Base at Richmond should become a permanent staging base for a fleet of Australian owned and operated Bushfire fighting aircraft. A one off major investment in the aircraft and training of more local pilots is essential here in one of the most bushfire prone countries on Earth - MP .

23.01.2022 The NSW Government have eased their draconian border restrictions with Victoria. #marcuspaulinthemorning The border zone has been expanded, and people can now travel freely in that zone for daily life. 21.01.2022 Some interesting feedback .... #EmailOfTheWeek #marcuspaulinthemorning Good morning Marcus... I have now read widely on this situation which has been misrepresented and lied about from our esteemed PM down. Firstly it is clear that Holgate has been shafted and shafted badly. Which of our press and media told us the watches were bought over 2 years ago when according to Morrison and Frydenberg the economy was booming. Instead Morrison stood up in parliament and railed against Holgate for being so profligate when the country was reeling from Covid and in recession. This is not only misleading but an outright lie. But we expect that from Morrison. $20k in watches for 4 executives who secured a deal worth $100m to Australia Post half of which went to the AP branches rapidly going broke! The problem was the $100m came from the Banks for a service they previously received for nothing. If AP was a private company these guys would have received a cash bonus of over $150k. The clincher seems to be when the banks became aware that Holgate was planning on establishing AP as a savings bank and therefore serious and credible competition for the Banks. So they demanded Morrison go on the attack. Remember this is the man who strongly resisted a Royal Commission into the Banks because he said there was nothing amiss. Where was the ALP in all this? It is Morrison who should be gone in this sordid episode not Holgate. Compare their track records.

20.01.2022 The spin merchant and his mates try to buy their way out of any responsibility - by using our money. How thoughtful. #marcuspaulinthemorning The Prime Minister is mistaken if he thinks his government's decision to pay $1.2 billion in reparations and compensation to the victims of "robodebt" will put this issue to bed.... This has, if anything, lent further weight to ongoing calls for a royal commission into the scandal which affected more than 370,000 people. Many believe the real intention in settling the class action bought by Gordon Legal was to avoid an almost certainly highly embarrassing court case. The PM might have even been called upon to testify. As the social services minister during robodebt's conception in 2015, and as the treasurer and then Prime Minister for much of the time it was in operation, Mr Morrison has more skin in this game than any other former or current cabinet minister. And that is precisely why the government he leads should not be allowed to buy its way out of trouble. As Bill Shorten, the shadow social security minister, has noted a thorough and independent investigation - preferably in the form of a royal commission - is now more important than ever.

19.01.2022 AUSTRALIA could run out of rice before Christmas. The drought, and issues with water allocation have taken their toll. Production has dropped by more than 80 per cent. ... 17.01.2022 #BREAKING NSW Deputy Premier has reneged on his threat to stop supporting Government legislation in the koala legislation stoush. 16.01.2022 NSW Heatwave - PLEASE make sure you have adequate water for your pets, and check on your neighbours and those most vulnerable. #marcuspaulinthemorning Sydney is set to sizzle in an early taste of summer, with temperatures tipped to hit the 40s across NSW this weekend.... The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of a severe heatwave starting today and worsening into the weekend for NSW and parts of inland Australia, forecasting temperatures between 15 to 18 degrees above the November average. Bureau meteorologist Helen Kirkup said the heatwave was the result of a build-up over Central Australia which will be swept into NSW, with a warm low 30s day on Friday lighting the coals for high 30s on Saturday and a scorcher on Sunday. Ms Kirkup said Sydney’s west was likely to suffer the worst of the heat in the Sydney area and overnight temperatures were unlikely to bring any relief. On Saturday the heat will push through from the west Sunday will be worst, the westerly heat will dominate the city, we’re expecting 33 on Saturday but 39 on Sunday in the CBD, Ms Kirkup said. It won’t drop much overnight. We could see up to 25C overnight on Saturday it’s going to be hot, right across the board. Penrith is forecast to reach 42C, while Richmond, Cronulla and Gosford will hit 40C. Ms Kirkup said while a heatwave was not unusual for late November, the weekend’s high temperatures could be record breaking. Towards the end of November we get high temperatures usually but these are borderline in terms of extreme, she said. Areas of the NSW Mid-North Coast, the Hunter and Sydney are likely to be close to record temperatures for this time of year, especially on Saturday night. Around the state, northwestern town Tibooburra will see the highest temperatures with 45C, with similar heat expected in Bourke, Cobar and Broken Hill, while the Hunter can expect 42C in Newcastle, Cessnock and surrounds. Mid to high 30s are expected for the Central West around Bathurst, Orange and Lithgow, with similar temperatures for the South and North coasts.

16.01.2022 Former prime minister Paul Keating has laid out a HECS-style loan plan aimed at covering home care costs for elderly Australians who do not want to go into a nursing home. #marcuspaulinthemorning Mr Keating said the Federal Government could give loans to elderly people for home care They would pay the loans back after their death, via their estate... An aged care advocate said it might be difficult to implement Giving evidence to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety on Monday, Mr Keating said a Commonwealth-run post-paid system could reduce wait times for home care packages and ease the financial burden on families. He likened it to the HECS loans given to university students that are only paid back once they graduate and reach an income threshold. "The Commonwealth could then advance as loans to every aged Australian so much as to meet their needs in support services to stay at home or alternatively in care accommodation," Mr Keating said.

15.01.2022 Tuesdays, we chat with the bloke who should be Australian Treasurer. #marcuspaulinthemorning

14.01.2022 Great thoughts from SKYs Alan Jones here. Why is the PM spruiking gas in coal country? #marcuspaulinthemorning Have I missed something?... The Prime Minister has gone into the Hunter region today, to his credit, saying that there has to be energy replacement when the Liddell power station closes in 2023. And he said that if the private sector does not build a replacement energy source, the government will. So far, so good. But here is the Prime Minister, in the capital of the Hunter Valley, talking gas, when the Hunter Valley has the best thermal coal in the world. We have plenty of gas but in the sell everything syndrome that Australia has been in for years, our gas resources have passed into foreign ownership. We export the lot so that the foreign buyer can provide cheap energy to his nation and we then have to import the stuff back at inflated prices. It is an insult to the coal-rich Hunter Valley that government starts talking about gas-fired power. Why wouldnt you build a coal-fired power station? Or has everybody, including the so-called conservative political forces in this country, caved in to left-wing ideology? We are happy to export our coal so that other countries can have cheap energy, but through misplaced ideology, we do not use it ourselves. There are many words for that, the best word is most probably "dumb".

12.01.2022 The Queensland Premier takes politics to a new LOW ! #marcuspaulinthemorning Prime Minister Scott Morrison will be banned from entering Queensland for the duration of the state election campaign unless he is prepared to pay $2800 to quarantine for 14 days in a government facility.... Nearly seven weeks after he last entered the sunshine state, there is no sign that the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will lift the border bans before the October 31 election. Queenslands border ban will effectively stop the Prime Minister, Labor leader Anthony Albanese and any other frontbenchers from entering the state for the duration of the election unless they are prepared to spend a fortnight in quarantine. It follows an ugly war of words between the Prime Minister and the Queensland Premier over the plight of hardship cases including a young woman who was unable to attend her fathers funeral. Last week, the Queensland Premier hit back at the Prime Minister, accusing him of bullying her to intervene in the case of a woman who was unable to attend her fathers funeral.

11.01.2022 Unemployment rate falls to 6.8% #marcuspaulinthemorning The ABS has released August figures - and outside of Victoria, we have seen a rise in employment. That is good news. But there are still more than 900,000 people out of work and that will increase by the end of the year.... From the ABS: Seasonally adjusted employment increased by 111,000 people (0.9 per cent) between July and August as hours worked rose 0.1 per cent, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Employment and hours worked Bjorn Jarvis, head of Labour Statistics at the ABS, said: Employment rose almost 1 per cent but hours worked rose by a more modest 0.1 per cent. Hours fell by 4.8 per cent in Victoria, compared to a 1.8 per cent increase across the rest of Australia. The weaker increase in hours worked has also been reflected in the strength of the increase in part-time employment between May and August, which has been almost eight times greater than the increase in full-time employment. Employment growth was stronger for females (67,000 people or 1.1 per cent) than males (44,000 or 0.7 per cent). Hours worked also increased for females (0.2 per cent), with no change for males, and remained around 4.7 per cent and 5.9 per cent below March respectively. In original terms most of the employment growth in August was people employed as non-employees (mainly owner managers of enterprises without employees), with the number of employees remaining relatively similar to July. Unemployment and participation The large increase in seasonally adjusted employment coincided with a large decrease in unemployment of 87,000 people, around 55,000 of whom were females, Mr Jarvis said. However, the large changes in employment and unemployment did not coincide with a large increase in participation, with the participation rate increasing by just 0.1 percentage points. It remained 1.1 percentage points below March (when it was 65.9 per cent). With participation relatively unchanged, the increase in employment and decrease in unemployment saw the unemployment rate decrease 0.7 percentage points to 6.8 per cent, Mr Jarvis said. This is also an important point from the ABS figures: Underutilisation The underemployment rate remained at 11.2 per cent, 2.4 percentage points above March. The underutilisation rate, which combines the unemployment and underemployment rates, fell 0.7 percentage points to 18.0 per cent, but remained 4.7 percentage points higher than March. And a note on who is considered unemployed by the ABS: People in the Labour Force are either employed, or unemployed. In order to be unemployed, people must be actively looking for work, and available to start work during the reference week. So people on Jobkeeper, who arent working, dont count.

11.01.2022 The SUPER FIGHT hots up, and will be a big issue at the next Federal Election! #marcuspaulinthemorning The Murdoch press today report Anthony Albanese’s Labor mates are raking it in chairing boards of union-dominated superannuation funds, doling out big salary bumps to executives while members struggle to get any pay increase at all.... These findings have emerged as the Opposition Leader fights for former Labor PM Paul Keating’s dream of even higher mandatory super contributions which would speed up growth of the sector’s already soaring fee income of $30 billion a year. Mr Albanese’s battle is with an expanding element of the federal government which wants to stop further fee income acceleration from July next year when contributions are due to begin rising from 9.5 per cent to 12 per cent by 2025. This element of the Coalition has been buoyed by a major review, led by former high-ranking Treasury official Mike Callaghan, which this month concluded the current contribution level can deliver adequate retirement living standards if people efficiently draw down their savings. One large fund told the review that members who died left behind 90 per cent of the balance they had at retirement as inheritance. Experts say the review confirmed that raising compulsory contributions would be a mistake. The jury is in, said Brendan Coates, household finances program director at the left-leaning Grattan Institute. Future increases aren’t needed.

Ms Berejiklian was last month drawn into an ICAC investigation when it outed her for having a "close personal relationship" with Mr Maguire, who is the subject of an inquiry.

There was movement at Macquarie Street Elections coming soon The Liberal Party needed Glad To rescue them from doom Fear not, said Glad I have a plan To pull us from the poo A little pork and barrelling Is all we need to do I’ll start a fund, a slushy one But keep it from the crowd A premier’s prerogative Will always be allowed We’ll swamp the councils of the state With cash they don’t request But only Liberal councils And forget about the rest In case we lose We wanna shower councils With some loot But only Liberal shires ‘Case they give us all the boot But getting back to slushy fund There’s millions to be spent With Labor councils only ever Getting five percent We’re bound to win on polling day Election’s in the bag The LNP will soon be praising me And thanking Glad And if by chance we’re somehow caught For rigging of the poll I’ll say it’s not illegal And with all my heart and soul Everybody does it Politics are all the same We roll the barrel full of pork It’s nothing but a game And cause we’re now in government There’s lots of cash to spend We’ll keep the slush fund secret Up until the bitter end Fear not, said Berejiklian We’ve got this in the bag We’ll buy the next election When we win, you’ll all be glad

01.01.2022 Well, what a busy week! Hopefully we have kept you well informed and even a little entertained! Have a great weekend, and we will catch you again first at 5am Monday with "All The News - and Your Views" #marcuspaulinthemorning In the depths of a global pandemic, where NSW is truly leading the world, we are faced with a Premier and Deputy Premier calling each others bluff.... The only winner here is Labor. At the heart of this dispute, the NSW Nationals believe urban Liberals have fundamentally disregarded the bush and, indeed, dont understand it. And the grievances go deeper than this flashpoint of koala policy, a bitterness spelled out colourfully by John Barilaro yesterday. You know, its this city that sends its rubbish out by train every night cause you cant stand the smell of your own garbage, he said. You want wind farms but you want it in our backyard. You want solar farms but you want it in our backyard. Youd never have them at Balmoral or on the shores of Pittwater. It is this city-centric approach that believes that regional rural NSW is the biodiversity offset so that you can cover for your guilt for all the concrete, all the roads, all the buildings and all the asphalt thats been laid. Were sick to death of it.

01.01.2022 19 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights, 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning, 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift, 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol, 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. #marcuspaulinthemorning
