23.01.2022 Guess who? Yes, this is me, aged nine. It was September school term break, and I was on holidays with my parents. Mum took this photo of Dad and I dressed for dinner at the hotel where we stayed. I love how my dress clashes with the 1970's curtain fabric! ... What's your favourite childhood picture?
22.01.2022 Different perspectives lead to different outcomes. After 20 years in her job, Kara feels lost, stuck, and stranded. One internal voice tells her to stay. The hours are good, she has flexibility and time with her kids. Another internal voice tells her different things. Kara is bored witless. She has fallen out of love with her job. Is it too late to change?... Terina Allen says when people stay too long in one job, it can derail their career. ‘Job-clingers’ are people who have stayed more than 5 years in one job, with no change in title, responsibilities, or salary no shifts in the company to gain new skills. Allen identifies the risks for job-clingers as: weakened chances of promotion, lower pay, and becoming less visible and relevant to senior management. Allen’s points are stark and confronting - and show why people need to be able to identify when it’s time to leave. Contrast Kara with another woman I know. Bridie left her organisation after 19 years. Bridie got clear on her values and what matters to her in life. And she went searching for a role to match. People have already remarked to her how vibrant she is, how happy she seems and how empowered she has been. What are you risking by staying? 19.01.2022 Reflect on your routine. Morning routines make a difference to the day. When I wake up each morning, I pour myself two litres of water and drink the first glass. Then it's time for a hot cup of tea to start the day. ... Before I do anything else, I drink my tea in silence, reflecting on the day ahead, and the state I wish to be in to achieve what I need to do. Then, it's time for exercise and a hearty breakfast. What does your morning routine look like? How do you use waking time to set up your day?

11.01.2022 Behind the scenes at my place. What does a day at the 'office' look like for me? Not much has changed for my practice the last few days. I often work from my home office. I always make the time to prepare a nutritious lunch. Some days I get more time to eat.... What’s your favourite lunch to have at work?
10.01.2022 Reframe your resolution There's a chance you’ve already decided you won’t achieve your New Year’s resolution. You're not alone. It's a common refrain this time of year. You beat yourself up a week, a month or a year later for not enacting your resolution.... When we don't know how to get our goals out of our heads, most of us sit on our hands. Our inner voice becomes self-deprecating. But, not so fast. In the (adulterated) words of the Spice Girls, plan for what you want. What you really, really want. Maybe then, it’s easier to get than you think. James Clear the international best-selling author of Atomic Habits wrote an entire book on this theme. What experts like Clear know, is that we succeed when we plan in shorter cycles. When we give ourselves one huge, hairy, audacious goal, we risk falling over. David Finkel, writing for Fast Company said, And while companies often sit down to draw up quarterly action plans, individuals rarely do. But they should. In fact, 90 days is the perfect unit of time to make headway on your big-picture goalsand to give them the focus they need, so you don’t get too overwhelmed. Read my latest Growth Note (linked below) on the topic and a template to help you develop your first 90-day plan. #90dayplan #leadership #growthnote
08.01.2022 Don't maul your mojo! It's not productive or healthy for people to feel inferior, disappointed in themselves or devalued. Comparison is the thief of joy. Leon Festinger developed social comparison theory in 1954. The theory explains the comparisons we make between ourselves and others.... When we compare adversely, we seek illusory perfection. Sometimes, we turn our friends and colleagues into rivals treating them as if they are getting to the spoils before us - as if there's not enough to go around. This destructive thinking can influence our behaviours and decisions. Some friends have more significant opportunities, more financial security, and broader networks. Does that stop you from doing things to improve your life? Check out my latest Growth Note. Flip your comparisons so they are motivating, not deflating - to help you achieve your aims. You might be surprised for everyone you compare yourself with, another person compares herself to you!

04.01.2022 Thank you, Mum. One of the things I'm grateful for is being raised by a mother who loved the role of mothering. You loved being pregnant, giving birth and raising children. ... You delight in the company of little children and teenagers. It's a joy to watch you as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Some women are destined for motherhood and are certain from an early age. Others know that's not the path for them. So, mum, on Mother's Day, I want to thank you for never judging my choice to be child-free. While we are total opposites in this regard, and while you might never have understood my decision, you have always supported me. I know women who have had guilt, anger, sadness and dismay projected at them because of their choice not to give birth. You knew I would find other ways to parent - through my work with children, through being an aunt and great-aunt, and by being a mother to children from other mothers. Not to mention all my fur-babies! Thanks for allowing me to be me. I love you, Mum. Happy Mother's Day to us! #mothersanddaughters #mothersday2021 #mumandme #mums #childfree #childlessbychoice
04.01.2022 Someone asked me this week who I admire in business. There are lots of local women I could list here. So many. Hard to choose! Today, I want to shout-out to Erika McInerney from Mac&Ernie social media training. Erika developed my first social media strategy in my early years in business.... There are three things about Erika's work that I admire. Her support for small groups and organisations across Gippsland, through her workshops Her bravery in trying all the new stuff, so we can learn from her Her playfulness - making social media fun for business owners, and encouraging us to inject our personalities into our posts. Kudos and thanks, Erika and team. You're rocking this!
