20.01.2022 MUSINGS I have been reading Phyllis Lee Furomotos book "In her own voice" and it has made me realise that it's been ages since I put pen to paper but when she says "what is this song that is singing in me now, and goes on and goes on and changes....it made me think that THIS IS LIFE ... I constantly question myself and there are times I ask myself if I am worthy of this beautiful gift of Reiki I have practiced for the past 30 years....I allow my life to take twists and tur...ns that sometimes confuse and hurt not only me but others too...(not with intent!) Only when that is allowed .. but the ONE answer that has always been my truth is that when I am practicing my Reiki or sharing seminars/gatherings I feel my heart expand and I know this is my home and I feel gratitude and peace...the tears in my heart flow freely and I ask myself Why..Marg..Why do u allow yourself to deviate even a little from this/your path. Well THAT IS LIFE - without these hiccups there would be no growth..no learning and I then realise I am exactly where I am meant to be at this time and space in my life. So yes GRATITUDE...just for today.....xx See more

08.01.2022 TAKATA Hawayo Sensei (1900-1980) A Japanese-American born on December 24, 1900, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. She was diagnosed with a serious gall bladder di...sease. She made a trip to Japan and was treated with Reiki by Hayashi Sensei. She recovered completely in four months. Hayashi Sensei visited Takata Sensei in Hawaii in 1938 and initiated her into Shinnpiden (Reiki Shihan or Teacher). She brought Reiki to the West. Between 1970 and 1980, Takata Sensei has initiated 22 Reiki Teachers (so-called Reiki Masters in the West). There are now tens of thousands of Reiki Masters and millions of people practicing Reiki throughout the world. Because of HAYASHI Chujiro Sensei and Hawayo Takata Sensei, Reiki hands-on healing method has become widespread in the West.
07.01.2022 Between 1936, when she returned from her initial training under Chjir Hayashi in Tokyo and seems to have begun teaching her first students on her home island ...of Kaua‘i, and 1951, when she conducted her first teaching tour in the mainland US, Hawayo Takata taught Usui Reiki Ryh in the US Territory of Hawaii, predominantly among the sizabIe Japanese American community (almost 40% of the Islands' population in the 1930s). In the summer of 1937, Takata went back to Japan to receive further training from Hayashi-sensei, at which time she invited him to come to Hawaii to teach with her. As Masaki Nishina has documented (link in the comments), they taught a total of sixteen classes together (two on Kaua‘i and fourteen on O‘ahu) between October 1937 and February 1938. To promote these classes, Hayashi also gave a number of free public lectures about Reiki, the largest of which, held at the Young Men’s Buddhist Association Hall in Honolulu on November 24, 1937, drew a crowd of over 200, according to a newspaper account. It is not clear exactly what Takata and Hayashi’s teaching relationship was like during the five months that they taught together. It may have been a period of apprenticeship, where Hayashi observed Takata teaching , while assisting her with the ceremonies called reiju , which were likely given on each day of the four-day courses. (Some courses went five days, but if they resembled Takata's later courses, the first day may have been a free lecture, possibly with a demonstration.) Alternatively, Hayashi could have been the main instructor, with Takata as his assistant, but she likely already had a good deal of experience watching him teach (and possibly being an assistant teacher herself) at the Tokyo headquarters, where she had trained for about seven months in 19351937, including several months as Hayashi’s live-in disciple (uchideshi). The only photograph we have from these classes is from the final class before Hayashi's return, and it shows Takata giving a Reiki demonstration before a crowd of well over a hundred people. (This is possibly a gathering of many of the students who attended the earlier classes as part of Hayashi's farewell). It is not clear whether Takata needed to undergo this type of teaching apprenticeship to reach some level of full Mastery. She had already been initiated into what is understood to be the highest level of Hayashi’s organization, as her shinpiden (mystery transmission, the third degree) certificate from the Hayashi Reiki Kenkykai is dated October 1, 1936. As Hayashi gave her another certificate in February 1938, before leaving Honolulu, declaring her as one of the thirteen fully qualified as a Master of the Usui Reiki system of drugless healing, it is possible that there was a level beyond shinpiden, which Takata only reached through her further training in 1937 and/or this period of apprenticeship in Hawaii. One possibility is that this final period of her training authorized Takata to become the head of her own branch (ske ). On December 13, 1937, Hayashi-sensei’s first farewell party was held in (probably the banquet hall of) a Waikiki Japanese-style bathhouse called Shiho-yu. At this party (where Hayashi announced that, due to the community’s requests, he would delay his return to Japan), the approximately fifty attendees unanimously agreed that there should be a Hawaii branch of the Hayashi Reiki Kenkykai, which would be the first overseas branch, joining the nine or so branches in Japan. The following month, the twelve founding members of this group met for a New Year’s banquet at a restaurant called Natsu-no-ya (Summer Home) and, according to a newspaper article, they voted Takata instructor (kshi ) and established an executive board. They would hold monthly research meetings (kenkykai ) to deepen their practice. At the time of Hayashi’s death in May 1940 (when it is said that he named Takata as his successor), it must have seemed that the Hawaii branch was crucial to the future of Usui Reiki Ryh, as practiced by the Hayashi Reiki Kenkykai. In fact, this Hawaii branch seems to have been fairly short-lived. The activities of the Honolulu group were likely disrupted by Takata’s move to Hilo on the Big Island of Hawai‘i in late 1940, although she seems to have continued to hold monthly meetings there in 1941. She may have had to suspend them altogether following Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor that December, when martial law was declared in the Territory and many Japanese community leaders were incarcerated. In future posts, I will go into detail about the lives of the other founding members of this short-lived branch, which seems to have been the first significant community outside of Japan. Thank you for reading and I am happy to answer whatever questions you may have as best I can! If you like this post, please follow my page for more on my research into Reiki history!
05.01.2022 Just for today...Do not worry. Worries, doubts, and anxieties are a normal part of life. It’s natural to worry. But normal worry becomes excessive when it’s ...persistent and uncontrollable. You worry every day about what ifs and worst-case scenarios, you can’t get anxious thoughts out of your head, and it interferes with your daily life. It takes a toll on your emotional and physical health. Insomnia, restlessness, difficulties to concentrate, stomach problems, constant headaches, and muscle tension can be a result of an anxiety disorder. Just for today means, take little steps to free yourself. Feel the joy, the peace, the liberation. With practice, you will experience positive emotions more often. See more
