22.01.2022 Birds on a wire or notes on sheet music? Dan Ilic snapped this striking photo of galahs (and a cockatoo) in Bathurst earlier this week. After sharing it on T...witter, the photo made its way to British journalist Steve Rosenberg, who has been getting creative with his piano playing during lockdown. "He decided to take this and turn it into actual music," Dan told Sammy J on ABC Radio Breakfast. "What was just a bunch of birds sitting on a pole in Bathurst has turned into lockdown art for the world." Listen to the interview and part of the musical score here: https://ab.co/2WfRz7R : Dan Ilic
20.01.2022 I've had a few requests to share this experience again. This image is one of dozens I captured during the most profound event i have witnessed. I had a class of... "intellectually challenged" (autistic, Downs Syndrome, etc) youths at the rescue to interact with the horses at their own level & choice. This day the lead mare gathered the others around her, after which, one by one, each of the mares came over to these two autistic children, layed down & placed their heads literally in the girls' laps. Over the course of 20 minutes, all 5 mares performed exactly the same ritual; they would circle the girls 3 times, then lay down & place their heads in the girls' laps, then drift into a trance-like sleep. As the teacher & I were mesmerized by this spectacle, i gradually became aware of a quiet conversation behind me. When i finally snapped out of the trance created by what was unfolding before me, I turned to see the lead mare standing next to an autistic boy. As I turned, I found him carrying on a conversation with the mare. This boy was 16 years old, and had not uttered a single word in his entire life. I have held numerous discussions with those involved in equine therapy work, specialists in child development and other experts regarding this event; not one had ever so much as heard of such a thing, let alone witnessed it. The nearest explanation we've arrived at is that those on the autistic spectrum tend to vibrate at a substantially higher level than "normal" folks (I hate that reference by the way!). Horses naturally seek out higher vibes to realign their own energies & attune to those who can match their own higher frequencies. So essentially, the horses were exchanging energy on a level that those of us not on the spectrum could not possibly feel nor understand. We're missing out on so much ... In T'Li Cho, we say "masi cho", a formal thanks to those who have joined in the sharing of a story.

16.01.2022 Ten year old Georgia Tolley has a gift that no-one can explain. All animals are drawn to her. But it’s what happens when she’s around horses that’s proving to b...e the most inspiring Georgia’s mother actually discovered her unique affinity with animals by accident. She was sitting in her special wheelchair on their family property in central Victoria when she noticed that horses wouldn’t leave her alone. But the love is far from one way. In fact, Georgia, who suffers from a rare genetic condition that affects her brain function, is transformed when she’s around them. As her mum Stacey puts it, she ‘lights up like a Christmas tree. They get responses from her we can’t, even when she’s really unwell.’ Georgia is not alone in experiencing incredible physical and emotional benefits from animal therapy yet science is still unable to explain exactly why it works. Some evidence suggests that animals trigger a beneficial change in brain wave activity. Either way, this gift of Georgia’s is proving to be priceless for both her and her equine friends; who clearly remain besotted (Pic: Tim Carraafa)

13.01.2022 Just in case you missed it ... At the end of last week, the Disability Discrimination Commissioner Dr Ben Gauntlett released some guidelines about the rights of... people with disability during the COVID19 pandemic. They have been written to make sure people with disability can get the same health care and support as other people in the community during the pandemic. And that their rights are respected and protected. The guidelines have been written to help health care workers and people who work in the disability sector to make good decisions when it comes to supporting people with disability. They give practical examples of what to do - and what not to do - so that people with disability get the care and support they need. They are also useful for people with disability and their families who want to know more about their rights - and how to protect them. And what to do if you think you have been discriminated against. You can find a copy of the guidelines here - https://humanrights.gov.au//guidelines-rights-people-disab And there is also an Easy Read version of the guidelines here - https://humanrights.gov.au//AHRC_EasyRead_COVID19%20_Guide (Image description: A picture of the front cover of the Easy Read version of the guidelines. There is a photo of a young woman on the cover. She is smiling. Another person can be seen in the distance. The text reads "Human rights in health and disability care during COVID19. Guidelines. August 2020." The Australian Human Rights Commission logo is in the top left hand corner. An Easy Read logo is in the bottom right hand corner)

09.01.2022 TWO COURSES with Availability - one for NDIS Participants, the other (scroll down) for Support Coordinators More info and bookings here: https://www.thegrowings...pace.com.au/events/ Hope to e-meet some more of you! I (Sam) personally leads both courses. 2 day PowerMeUp (for participants and can be claimed from most plans) August 11 and 12 9:30-2:30pm (1 spot left!) OR August 31 and Sept 1 9:30-2:30pm (14 spots left) OR September 16 and 17 9:30-2:30pm (18 spots left) (online live via Zoom) Topic 1: What does the law tell us about the NDIS? (or I am told so many different, conflicting things! What’s the truth and how can I make it work for me!?) Topic 2: What is Reasonable & Necessary and Can I Buy It? And the difference between the two! Topic 3: Plan Basics and Reviews making the most of reviews, figuring out and giving yourself the best chance at getting what you need in your plan Topic 4: Managing Providers how to find and manage the supports and services you want and need to meet your goals Topic 5: Innovation Wild ways to uncover your goals and use your funding for awesome outcomes Topic 6: Self Management making it work for you tips and tricks for those considering or have already chosen Self Management Q and A’s there will be time throughout the two days to ask those burning questions, so start writing them down! Feedback from the June Power me Up course - I'm in shock. Had my son's review meeting four days after your course - his funding is now tripled!!!! I feel like finally I know what I need to do to get my son what he needs! thank you - I feel so empowered now. I can't believe all the ideas I learned. I'm been his Mum for 27 years and thought I understood, but I just learnt so much. - I'm telling everyone I know who has a NDIS plan to do this. Everyone. - I loved the videos too and being able to share some stories without it becoming overwhelmed. You kept the room in good order. Thanks. - I can't wait to start doing some of this. - I'm going to look at using my SDA funds to buy my own home now - Thank you! - That law section was just amazing - now I know where I stand and won't let the LAC or planner trample of my rights again! - Alot to take in - might need to do it again. Great presentation style and information - not even a second of boring. 3 day Support Coordination Course (for SC's working in the field, and those with lived experience of NDIS looking to break into the field) August 24-26 9:30-4:30pm ACST (2 spots left) OR September 23 - 25th 9:00am - 4:00pm ACST (16 spots left) Feedback from the June SC Course: - I loved the course and can't stop thinking about it. - 3 days of big picture thinking is intense to digest. - The pragmatic approach Sam took to go through the end to end process re Support Coordination it gave a brilliant first hand account on what/how and why we could do things, which was great for me! - I loved the documents provided, and a thorough understanding of what good Support Coordination looks like. - The whole lot was great! The Framework, Governance and Legislation - section was really interesting and helped put everything into context. The detailed look at what the job actually entails (and what it doesn't) and the suggestions for the first meeting and beyond and all the resources that went with it was invaluable. - Lots of discussion and practical examples - The pre-reading was very interesting and definitely helped me get more out of the training. - It was a huge amount of information to take in but having the slides available beforehand so I could print them off and take notes really helped. Places for both courses are not held until payment is received. If you are a participant, you can *almost* certainly claim the cost of the PowerMeUp course from Core or Capacity Building. Invoices are provided for plan management or self management claims. Check with your Plan Manager first if you have a Plan Manager who oversteps their boundaries and thinks they make spending decisions for you.

02.01.2022 THE POWER OF COHERENCE. Here is a photo of a woman with cerebral palsy (and a nervous system that is misfiring) in a wheelchair. As the horses noticed her jer...king movements, they realised her nervous system was misfiring and one by one, they laid down around her (slowing down their breathing rate, which slowed down their heart rate, which created the pulsing resonant field that caused her nervous system to entrain/synchronise with). She later reported that her jerking movements had calmed down significantly. See more
