23.01.2022 MAIN STREET MURAL WITH MEANING Margaret Rivers main street just got a new mural. The extensive mural titled Wadandi Boodjarra is a collaboration between lo...cal artists Ian Mutch, Jack Bromell and Sandra Hill depicting Wadandi home country, local flora, and iconic Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos. Ms Hill says the design features a strong red line on the corner of the building that runs from top to bottom. This line symbolises the blood line of family all the way back to the creation story of the Margaret River (place of Wooditch)," says Ms Hill. "This red blood line runs through our country. The creation of Wooditjup (Margaret River) is an ancient story that has been told by our people long before colonisation and the River is a fully registered and very important Aboriginal site. The central brown circle depicts home country, Wadandi Boodjarra (Wadandi home country). The patterns in the middle circle are our traditional markings on our shields. The red circle symbolises old, ancient blood. The black line circle symbolises our community. The ochre dots on the outside symbolise our family clan groups, she said. 22.01.2022 Margaret River Region Open Studios friends, Following an emergency board meeting this morning and significant communication with many of our artists over recen...t days, we have made the difficult, but we believe appropriate, decision to postpone this years Open Studios event. Whilst we do not have a mass audience, we feel that this is the most socially responsible course of action to take in this rapidly changing environment. We will reschedule the event to Spring 2020 and update our communications channels as appropriate. Teaming with a competent framer is one of the best moves you can make toward enhancing and protecting your art. A framers services go far beyond simply framing your art. Professional framers are trained in the care and preservation of artwork. Not only can they guide you through the design process, but they also can explain things like the d...ifferences between papers and mats, the pros and cons of different types of glass over acrylic glazing, and the benefits of various mounting methods for your medium. A framer should always talk with you about the preservation of your work and suggest reversible methods of mounting as well as neutral materials for framing or storage. A wall of 3,000 frame corners and a thousand mat samples can be overwhelming, but a good designer should offer you two or three different approaches to showcase your piece in a way that maintains the dignity of the medium, whether oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, or something else. Your designer should be able to point out why the selected colours, spacers and frames work with your art and help draw the eye into it. A frame should complete a piece of art, so the frame should be noticeable but not so much so that it distracts from the art itself. Then the designer will help you narrow the options. This is a collaborative process. Keep in mind that youre the customer and, although your framer may know more about the display and care of your work, the final decisions are yours. Max Ferguson knew he wanted the frame for his Girl With Vermeer (oil on panel, 1812) to reflect the 17th-century Dutch period of Vermeers Young Woman With a Water Pitcher, seen in Fergusons painting. He then hit upon the idea of framing his piece with a replica of the frame thats on the actual Vermeer.

Many are keen to see Open Studios as a spring time event; how have you enjoyed visiting in September? We are thrilled to announce that Margaret River Region Open Studios is rescheduled for 12 to 27 September 2020. 103 artists from around the region... will be opening their studio doors to welcome in art lovers. Please share this happy news! The event will run in the same format artists opening their private studios to the public to view their artwork, gain an insight into how they create their work, and share stories and information. Naturally, our artist studios will conform to the State Governments COVID-19 health and safety requirements in place at the time of the event and we will share this information with you prior to the event. Printed event guides will be repurposed with a sticker on the cover with the new dates, but we recommend you visit our website mrropenstudios.com.au to find a full list of artists participating and (closer to the event) their studio opening times. We look forward to seeing you in September.

06.01.2022 GOOD NEWS, PERTH - BELLAS BACK Shes a much-loved Fremantle identity and today the Bella statue returned to Bathers Beach! Strictly speaking this is Bella 2....0: the original 150kg bronze beauty which was valued at around $100,000, was stolen back in October. A man was jailed for nine months for her theft, but Bella was never found. Local sculptor Greg James made both Bellas. He told Geoff Hutchison on ABC Perths Drive hes delighted Bella is back at Bathers Beach. She has the same body as the original but a brand new face, he said. Her security has been increased too, Bella 2.0 was welded in place this morning and she has a new security camera watching her every move. She will spend her days soaking up the Freo sunshine.

05.01.2022 We are open and well at Margaret River Picture Framing. We are taking extra precautions regarding COVID-19. This includes wiping down surfaces between customer visits, specially on the Kodak Kiosk screen, Eftpos machine and counter. We also frequently wash our hands (use to be 10 times a daywe are getting close to 20 nowadays). If you need directions with the Kodak kiosk, we will still be providing help but maybe from a bit of a distance, dont take it wrong. ... We are asking all of our guests to refrain from touching the frame and mat samples until further notice. We will happily take samples from the wall for you and help you choose the perfect design. If any changes are made to our business hours or if we have to close, our website and facebook page will be updated. We will also have a note on the door.
