24.01.2022 High bacterial levels in the MARGARET River. The many tons of soil which flushed into the river from the lifestyle village and by-pass bridge earthworks in the rainy season (winter) will have covered the river floor, possibly asphyxiating the natural flora and fauna, their deaths resulting in abnormal rates of bacterial blooms.
15.01.2022 Half a year after sediment was being released within the Margaret River town from where it flowed down to the river mouth at the ocean: sediment continues to surface at the river mouth .
12.01.2022 Shire Planners at MR have failed to properly manage soil run off from construction sites they approved. June 2018. The Margaret River silted with red gravel run off from town right through to the ocean. 10 kilometres of permanent sediment pollutants . During the duration of the pollutant the river has soil particles suspended in solution. Much has washed out into our ocean and much has settled to the river floor to remain there indefinitely. This is what we pay our town p...lanners for . They say, We can’t control construction. However, when they gave approval for the causative development they failed in their planning to ensure enough mitigation mechanisms at the construction sites to catch sediment runoff during our seasonal winter rains. According to the local conservation group the planners had been made aware of runoff for the two (2) previous years. Yet, the planners failed to care enough to ensure prevention. See more
10.01.2022 1st of June 2019: checked some river mussels near the weir to see if they have survived the sediment pollutant from construction of the bypass bridge in winter 2018. On grids of 1 meter by 1 meter there were at 2 places 6 muscles per m2. One site at the weir and the other 100 meters down stream at the newly constructed foot bridge . All muscles were alive. At a third site similar numbers where mussel trails of about one meter through silt indicated the mussels to be not only ...alive but vigorously active. The one mussel I opened appears to have healthy flesh .
