24.01.2022 I using trotting exercises when I'm schooling at home. For Spy, who tends to get quick and flat in the air, a trot approach helps him think about being careful For Colin, who is still figuring out his legs and needs to learn power, not speed

24.01.2022 When you take a break from cross country and forget you are the Ditch King #scaryditch #orisitonly10cmwide? #bravery #eventers

23.01.2022 What’s the number one thing people say to me at competitions? HOW do you get his tail so white?!? Well, as everyone starts preparing for the start of the season, I thought it was time to share my secrets. It may seem like a bit of effort, but adds up to about half an hour of work a week and means a clean, thick, shiny tail at every show. STEP ONE: If their tail is fairly grubby (and let’s face it, at this point on the calendar it probably is), start by giving it a good tho...rough wash and rinse with shampoo to get the dirt out. STEP TWO: Grab your favourite whitening shampoo. I’ve always had good results with Equinade Glo-White. Apply generously and get in there and SCRUB with your fingers (now is not the time for fake nails, ladies). If the shampoo isn’t foaming and lathering up, wet a bit more and keep scrubbing. Don’t get excited and rinse it straight away, leave it to sit and soak for about 10 minutes first (why not clean your bridle while you wait?) STEP THREE: Conditioner time after all, you would never shampoo your own hair without conditioning. Get a good amount on there, and again leave it in for a little while (you have time to kill - does the tack room need a sweep?) If you want to gently comb the tail, now is the time to do it. Then rinse thoroughly again. STEP FOUR: Secret weapon time. The hard part of a clean tail isn’t getting the dirt out, it’s keeping it out. My new tack room must have is a tie in tail bag, that you can get from Horseland. Loosely plait the tail from the dock to the end and secure with a braiding elastic. Then pull the tail bag over, and tie into the plait just below the dock. This stays on Spy ALL the time even when he’s getting ridden. Sometimes I will also put a cotton tail bag on over the top for double protection. I’m lucky not to have too many insects on my property, so Spy still has enough bug protection from his wrapped up tail, but if flies are a problem for your horse, you can get creative and sew some strips of fabric or string to the tail bag to give them some swishing protection just make sure it is something that will break like horse hair if it gets caught on a fence or tree. And finally, STEP FIVE: Repeat every week or two for a lush, glowing tail

21.01.2022 Sydney 3DE put on an awesome show this weekend, and it was great to be back eventing. Spy had some cobwebs to dust off in his first cross country run since Melbourne 3DE last year, but he pulled up feeling fit, strong and ready to get serious again. Colin once again impressed at his first ever event, and would have finished very well if he hadn't cruised around cross country so easily and ended up with a stack of speedy time penalties - oops! Thank you to the committee and all the volunteers for pulling this massive show together, my class sponsors, IRT and Macarthur Automotive, and all the other event sponsors. Photos thanks to Bronwyn Evans #Sydney3DE #eventing #SpyMaster #HRColtrane

20.01.2022 I've had some requests for cross country, so I'll be at the Bungendore showground on Saturday the 24th for lessons - just in time for a pre-Spring tuneup. PM me or comment if you want more details or would like to join in

20.01.2022 2018... what a year. We had a great start with a few serious highlights including... completing my Level 1 Coaching certificate nailing Melbourne International 3de earning a spot on the EA Youth Development Squad... Unfortunately our second half of the year was less successful... Spy may have been training the best he ever had but injuries kept us out of the competition. We are crossing fingers for a better start to 2019. I hope everyone has enjoyed their breaks and all the horses are looking fat, fresh and ready to start kicking new year goals See you out there!

19.01.2022 The boys had a great time at jump club today. Little Colin continues to impress and stepped up effortlessly to 80 cm. Best part though was getting Spy back out - he was pretty happy about it too and sailed round the 1 m, albeit a bit confused about why his jumps weren't bigger (next time, buddy) Thank you #ACTshowjumpingclub for putting on another great event. #showjumpers #eventers #unicorns #SpyMaster #HRColtrane

15.01.2022 This cute creature joined the team today #fouryearold #thoroughbred #exracehorse #eventer #HRColtrane

13.01.2022 A bit of greenness and a lot of promise for Colin's first EvA80 at Camden Equestriad. Thank you to all the organisers, sponsors and volunteers for a fabulous show. #HRColtrane #Eventing #BabyColin #FutureStar

13.01.2022 Think Colin's overdue for some bigger jumps... Thank you: Rachael Warden for the video. National Capital Horse Trials Association for what is always one of the best, friendliest, well run events on the calender.... And all the wonderful sponsors who make these competitions possible. #CanberraODE #Eventing #OffTheTrack #HRColtrane

10.01.2022 It was a bittersweet weekend at the final Lynton Horse Trials Goulburn. I've never missed this event so thankfully Colin stepped up - in fine style - meaning I could ride there for the last time. Huge thank you to Neil and Geordie Kennedy for being the backbone of Lynton Horse Trials. Major sponsor Willinga Park and class sponsor Rocky Hill Sand and Soil. Wallaby Hill - for all the aerating, the going was great.... And all the other sponsors, volunteers and supporters who put this show on over the years Beautiful photos thanks to Brittanny Madeleine Grovenor

09.01.2022 I'm excited to be giving a clinic with the Sydney Hunt Club on the 25th of May in Bungendore. Head to Nominate to enter! #SydneyHuntClub #Eventing #Training

09.01.2022 We certainly had an interesting weekend at SIEC... The good: Colin added just a couple of time to his super dressage score of 66.8% The bad: Turns out you don't need a car for your float to go for a joy ride. On Saturday morning I was pretty shocked to find out that my trusty float - which I had left parked on a nice flat gravel surface (with the handbrake on) - had literally been BLOWN 50 metres into a tree. Huge thank you to Sam and Nicky Lyle who got Colin and me to the ...event. Thank you to The Jump Shack for sponsoring my class #Eventing #Adventures #SIEC #ABECSpringClassic #HRColtrane

09.01.2022 Colin the star conquered his first show today. Hard to believe this gentle soul is only four, he behaved like an old pro all weekend. Baby legs turn slowly so no ribbons this time but plenty of people lining up to take him home. Time for some bigger jumps I think... #Eventer #Showjumper #ACTShowjumpingClub #Horseland #CanberraCup #HRColtrane

08.01.2022 The team had a great day at ACT Showjumping Club today, after a big week of lessons. Sally Townsend's Beau Baggins impressed with great rounds in the 50 cm and 60 cm Spy got back to some bigger jumps after his injury (and has his Eventer Bod back) (Not a baby anymore) Colin stepped up to 90 cm - not that he seemed to notice the difference.... Winter motivation is easy with ponies like these #Showjumping #canberrawinters #SpyMaster #HRColtrane

07.01.2022 Here is everyone's reminder to ALWAYS pick out your horse's feet. No idea where it came from but it is not meant to be there! #horsecare #luckyescape

05.01.2022 This handsome man just finished up jumping bootcamp with me - I'm pretty excited to watch him continue his journey with his owners. "Just watched some of Beau's videos, such a great outcome. You are a very talented soft rider and he has responded beautifully to that. We will keep it fun with a great foundation now. Thank you"

04.01.2022 Double carrots for double clears Clever Colin kept his toes up for two great rounds in the 80 cm and 90 cm at the ACTSJC Canberra Classic this weekend #fouryearold #superstar #almostfive #bigthingstocome #HRColtrane

04.01.2022 We had a busy three days of lessons this weekend, starting with the High Performance squad school in Camden, followed by show jumping and cross country at the beautiful Wallaby Hill. Spy is quickly getting back into his groove after his time off and is feeling fit (if still sporting a chunky but funky holiday bod). The weekend was a big ask for Baby Colin but he got out his big boy pants and really impressed Thank you to Prue and Sam for the lessons, Equestrian Australia for facilitating the squad school, and the whole team at Wallaby Hill for putting on another great clinic.

01.01.2022 I LOVE using grids to help build a horse's technique and confidence. This time it was a bounce. We started with one jump and added more jumps and more height as Colin got confident. Still working out our baby legs, but this little horse put in a big effort #younghorses #training #showjumping
