24.01.2022 Meet the therapist I thought it was about time that I introduce you to the face behind Marianthe Speech Pathology. My name is Marianthe... if you already didn’t guess, but most people know me as Maz. Prior to starting Marianthe Speech Pathology I completed a Masters of Speech and Language Pathology and a Bachelor of Health Sciences majoring in Hearing and Speech at the University of Sydney.... I have been practicing as a Speech Pathologist for 6 years, providing holistic services to children, adolescents and adults with a range of physical, learning, and sensory disabilities (including Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, chromosomal disorders, neurological disorders, acquired brain injury and intellectual disability). I have worked within a variety of settings including clinic, home, community, school, group homes and day programs. I am also part of the Speech Pathology team at Mt Wilga Private Hospital, providing services to inpatients and outpatients, including NDIS participants. I have a passion for the disability sector and individuals with complex communication needs. I previously volunteered at the AAC Institute’s 2016 ICAN Talk AAC Summer Camp in Pittsburgh, United States. The camp was aimed at children with a disability who have complex communication needs, to increase their participation and provide them with the opportunity to practice using their AAC device in their general environment. I have special interest in Dementia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, mental health and fluency disorders (stuttering). Dementia is particularly close to my heart after caring for my late Grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer’s Dementia for years. I previously implemented an Early Onset Dementia cognitive communication group in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team. Outside of work, I love dancing and was a dance fitness instructor for 5 years. I also enjoy spending time with my two beautiful Staffy’s, Belle and Drax, and my crazy big Greek family.
