22.01.2022 8 and a half years ago I joined the board of the then Bendigo Business Council, now Be Bendigo. Motivated by recognising the need for Bendigo to have a strong voice for business, to support the development of business in our community, to provide networking opportunities in our community. Today is a great day for Be Bendigo as for the first time in its history it has a home of its own. While the organisation has benefited from support of partners for accommodation, there is ...nothing like having your own space. It’s a deliberate choice to find our first home in the Hargreaves Mall. Not only does it make us accessible to businesses but it’s a vote with our feet that the Mall can be and is a good place to do business. The move is an exciting demonstration that Be Bendigo has matured and has the capacity and commitment to deliver our vision - a vibrant & prosperous Bendigo, an organisation that will advocate, collaborate & engage. There’s been lots of time dedicated in that time with Be Bendigo, lots of dragging 3 kids at various ages & stages to all sorts of meetings and events - but there is still a lot more to come. It’s exciting to be the Chair of Be Bendigo as it goes from strength to strength Friends, there’s a few things you can do to contribute to the success of Be Bendigo: 1. Pop in & say hello to the team in the Mall 2. Make sure your business/employer is at least a member, but preferably a partner 3. Become and individual member like me - you can join yourself in addition to your business/employer, a great way to show your personal commitment to Be Bendigo, indeed Bendigo itself 4. Like the Be Bendigo Facebook page 5. Come along to Be Bendigo events Jump over to the Be Bendigo website to learn more - or if you’d like to hear directly from the Be Bendigo team comment below and I’ll get someone to get in touch with you

22.01.2022 Usually there is sadness when there is separation and divorce, sometimes that is great sadness. Sometimes, there is actual depression - maybe as a cause, maybe as a reaction. This powerful piece provides amazing insight into dealing with depression.

19.01.2022 There's something for odd about how this is written but there is a gem of some ideas worth thinking about. Adjusting to being alone and on your own can have a huge impact on how people approach their family law matters

18.01.2022 Yesterday, with the background of some spectacular thunder & lightening, together with Be.Bendigo CEO Dennis Bice and board member Damien Tangey I had the opportunity to present to the City of Greater Bendigo councilors the Be Bendigo strategic plan. It was great to discuss with the council the needs of businesses in Bendigo and the ways in which we can work together for a more vibrant & prosperous Bendigo. 18.01.2022 Financial abuse. Not having access to money. Financial information not being shared.... Money used as inappropriate power. Far too often part of family violence. Something we all need to understand more about (And Serena Williams is onboard with this - I'm loving everything Serena today, how beautiful are those photos)

17.01.2022 What's in a name....

16.01.2022 Good chat to The Bendigo Advertiser about the Law Reform Commissions review of Family Law

15.01.2022 Great opportunity this week discussing ways the family law system can be improved when the Shadow Attorney General Mark Dreyfus visited Bendigo. Thanks to Lisa Chesters MP for organising.

15.01.2022 There’s many ways a couple can navigate their separation - maybe even a ceremony?

13.01.2022 It's Friday, we deserve to be happier

11.01.2022 Some great thoughts here, whether it be to work on your relationship now or to reflect where things went wrong in your last relationship

10.01.2022 Separation is always devastating, devastating in different ways and to different extents But there are always better days ahead, although this story is a pretty magical example http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/17908074?

09.01.2022 Imagine a Family Law judge writing the judgement as a letter to the 14 year old child who the case is about. An beautiful compassionate judgement from the U.K. (This is a the judge who has also used a in a previous judgement)

08.01.2022 Well, this is taking a bit of digesting. While removing the duplication, gaps & back and forth between child protection, family violence courts and family law is desperately needed, handing family law to the states would introduce a whole new layer of complexity and risks. There’s a lot more recommendations (60 in all) in the report - some big ones such as starting with a presumption contribution was equal during a relationship, dividing assets as at the date of separation a...nd dividing super accumulated during the relationship equally. There’s some good suggestions for simplification, recognising equal presumptions regarding children doesn’t work well and codifying some case law (eg Rice v Asplund) While it’s interesting reading, where it will go is going to be a very interesting journey, depending on the next election outcome, what the reaction is in the then senate and now an added level of what will the states think? Fascinating times ahead https://mobile.abc.net.au//family-court-powers-s/10988862

07.01.2022 Excited that the Be Bendigo board is off to Heathcote tonight , looking forward to hearing how Heathcote is part of Be Bendigo's vision for a vibrant and prosperous Bendigo.

06.01.2022 We’ve had no fault divorce in Australia since 1975, which makes this English Supreme Court decision seem at first brush somewhat quaint but really it’s just tragic. Under the current law in England and Wales, unless people can prove their marriage has broken down due to adultery, unreasonable behaviour or desertion, the only way to obtain a divorce without a spouse's consent is to live apart for five years. https://www-bbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org//uk-england-herefor

06.01.2022 Terrific article on the Kafka-esque world of Child Support. There has to be a better way for both payees and payers. Shall be interesting to see what emerges in the next year https://www.theguardian.com//child-support-when-we-intervi
