25.01.2022 Marina Gold Anchor Training Commences in USA Last November the West Coast USA based Marine Recreation Association (MRA) and the Marina Industries Association (MIA) based in Australia entered into a collaborative agreement to launch the Global Gold Anchor program. Two West Coast marinas were accredited leading up to the agreement. Training of West Coast Assessors for the program has now commenced with marina assessments to follow in November despite set-backs due to Covid-1...9. Gold Anchor was first developed in the United Kingdom in 1988 by The Yacht Harbours Association (TYHA). In 2009 the MIA launched its own program and in 2013 the two associations launched a single Global Gold Anchor program. The program is analogous with star ratings for accommodation with a strong focus on customer service. The program is well established in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Australia and the Caribbean. MIA President Andrew Chapman said the delay in implementing the agreement has been frustrating, but the strong will of both parties has resulted in its re-activation. Gold Anchor accreditation is an excellent business improvement program as well as providing marketing and product differentiation benefits. MIA is very pleased that MRA appreciate the value of Gold Anchor and we are totally committed to working with the MRA team as it is rolled out across North America. 20.01.2022 Verdict in for Marina Online Learning In April the Marina Industries Association (MIA) announced a commitment to fast track online learning initiatives in-light of Covid-19. Since then MIA has conducted many online regional meetings and webinars and converted two face to face courses for online delivery. 35 participated in the online Club Marine Emergency Preparedness course and 17 participated in the online Intermediate Marina Management (IMM) course. The IMM course is d...elivered across the globe. This was the first time it has been conducted online and it attracted participants from the UAE, China, Thailand and Australia. The course was delivered over four weeks whereas the face to face course is conducted over 4.5 days. Topics include Emergency and Environmental Management, Health and Safety, Marketing and Leadership. MIA CEO Colin Bransgrove said right from the get-go we were very aware of how best to compensate for the lack of physical interaction impacting on the development of long term relationships and networks that are traditionally a valuable legacy of these management courses. It was clear early in the course more interaction was required and optional small group discussion sessions were added to stimulate dialogue. He is currently the General Manager of Batemans Bay Marina and also manages oversight of its sister site Port Macquarie Marina. ... It was this employment opportunity that helped him realise working in marinas and boating was the direction he wanted to pursue. In 2011, he gained employment as a casual marina attendant with Batemans Bay Marina, and this led to an eventuating Marina Manager role. This awakened him to the MIA Career Pathways and he completed the IMM in 2016, AMM in 2018, and now CMM in 2020. He also has a qualification in Shipwright Boatbuilding. 10.01.2022 The Global Marina Institute (GMI) has endorsed delivery of the online Intermediate Marina Management Course (IMM) with timing most suited to participation from the Middle East, UK/Europe and Asia. The IMM is delivered under the GMI banner by both the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and British Marine (BM). The Chairman of GMI Tony Browne said this is an exciting development for the marina industry and part of GMIs plans to ensure quality marina training can still be deli...vered despite the barriers the pandemic presents. The IMM is the foundation course of the GMI career pathway that leads through to certification either as a Certified Marina Operator, Manager or Professional (CMO, CMM or CMP). The MIA conducted the first ever online IMM earlier this year and GMI has carefully evaluated the feedback by delegates and the MIA. As a result of these findings including additional strategies to address the physical networking gap of online courses, the GMI is very pleased that a further online IMM will be conducted this year. https://www.marinas.net.au//marina-online-learning-gathers #marinaindustries #marinas #marinatraining #marinacareerpathway #globalmarinainstitute #intermediatemarinamanagement

09.01.2022 The South of Perth Yacht Club has achieved accreditation under the International Clean Marina Program along with the additional recognition of it being a Fish Friendly Marina. Situated on the beautiful Swan River, the marina was successful in the rigorous, independent assessment process which audits a 103-point checklist. The Clean Marina Program and assessment criteria was developed by industry and government specialists in Australia. The audit includes inspections of mec...hanical activities, boat maintenance and storage, fueling, facility and waste management, workshop, risk management and emergency planning and boater education. A detailed written report is provided to the Marina following the site audit. The South of Perth Yacht Club has long been a wonderful site that has always had proactive environmental initiatives in place so it is great to accredit as a Clean Marina said Suzanne Davies, CEO of the Marina Industries Association which administers the program. The Fish Friendly accreditation is an addition to the Clean Marina accreditation, which assesses advanced elements of environmental planning and management, such as identifying opportunities to incorporate fish friendly structures into the marina to encourage marina life and the education of marina visitors on local fish species. https://www.marinas.net.au//south-of-perth-yacht-club-awar #cleanmarinas #marinaindustries #fishfriendly #marinas #yachtclub #environmental #environmentalaward
