25.01.2022 316 Stainless steel derives its resistance to corrosion primarily due to the addition of chromium, molybdenum and nickel, which improves resistance to oxidation, corrosion and pitting. 316 stainless steel will naturally form a chromium oxide film on its surface. This is what makes it rust and stain resistant. However if the surface is contaminated with other metals, grease or marine growth then the film cannot replenish. The most efficient way to further improve the re...sistance to corrosion is to treat the surface. All Arctic Steel water strainers have a surface treatment called electro polishing. This electrically charged acid bath removes 20 - 30 micrometers from the surface, removing contaminants and leaving an even richer chromium film than occurs naturally on 316. This is far more effective than passivation and mechanical polishing. Three types of corrosion affect strainers: 1. Galvanic Corrosion... occurs when different metals are in contact via salt water resulting in a micro electrical current. The softer of the two metals will be corroded. Arctic Steel solution - anode connection point on all strainers. 2. Pitting Corrosion... caused by chlorides in salt water. Arctic Steel solution - 316 stainless steel with guaranteed quantities of chromium, molybdenum & nickel. 3. Crevice & Microbiological Corrosion... a bacterial film from marine growth will cause crevice and pitting corrosion. Arctic Steel solution - Electro polishing removes impurities and refines the surface leaving few places where micro organisms can attach. Tea Staining This is common and can occur on the surface of all stainless steels when contaminants are left uncleaned. This is not an indication of poor quality stainless steel or corrosion. Simply poor maintenance, as can be seen in the picture, where tea staining has been cleaned and the stainless steel remains intact. Recommended care for your Arctic Steel Strainer Use a thread sealant when installing. This will seal the thread from leaks, prevent galling and thread corrosion. Connect the strainer to your anode system via the anode connection point. This reduces the occurrence of galvanic corrosion. Clean your strainer regularly. This allows the stainless steel to resist corrosion.

22.01.2022 No one wants to swim in polluted water, we hate going to a marina and seeing oils, foam and other chemicals floating on the water. When youre (supposedly) floating in pristine waters and you see sink or shower discharge floating past. Yuk, its not pleasant, its not good for the environment, so why does it seem that no one wants to do anything about it! 21.01.2022 NOW YOU CAN DO YOUR PART The Wavestream Overboard Oil Protection System is designed to simply and economically remove oil contamination from the bilge water of boats. The filtered bilge water is discharged without creating environmental damage. The Wavestream System is simply installed between the bilge pump and the overboard through-hull-fitting, similar to installing a sea strainer. 10.01.2022 A couple of months ago we fitted a Tides Marine Sail Track to our 40 foot cutter "Dreamtime III". For 16 years we'd been spraying lubricant onto the slides or ...just struggled to haul and drop the main...but those days are over. We've nick named our sail track "the slippery little sucker"! The only resistance I experience now is the weight of the sail or the attitude of the crew :-) Thanks Pete & Dave, great innovation! 10.01.2022 Let's Keep Australia Beautiful Helping to keep our precious marine playgrounds clean. Eliminate pollution from the discharge of grey (domestic) water produced from basins, showers and laundries. No more foul smelling holding tanks.... Grey water from source is pumped through the Wavebrite system and filtered directly overboard. Harmful contaminants such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, laundry detergents, hair, lint, body oils, dirt, grease and fats are removed by the system. Wavebrite also removes the chemicals within the detergents, soaps, shampoos and cosmetics. This mix of contaminated water is cleaned to the EU Waste Water Standard for Bathing Water which is the criteria for water acceptable to discharge. Importantly the harmful phosphates present in waste waters are removed, reducing the toxic effect on the environment. The filter cartridges and the Wavebrite filter module are easily monitored.
