19.01.2022 Earlier today, Eden Water Police and NSW Maritime, Batemans Bay, worked in collaboration to retrieve a kayak from Grasshopper Island (near Batemans Bay) and ret...urn it to it’s owner, following a rescue yesterday. The owner had got into strife but made it onto the island where he was rescued by the Moruya based Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. He was wearing a life jacket at the time. The owner of the kayak was onboard today and also took part in the retrieval. In the end a good result, and shows one of the many aspects of marine policing. #lifesaver23

17.01.2022 Today we’re flying our flags at half mast to mark the anniversary of the start of the Currowan bushfire. The Black Summer fires devastated 79 per cent of ou...r shire’s landscape, with the loss of three lives and more than 500 homes destroyed. It’s been traumatic year and the coming weeks will be tough for many in the community. At this time of reflection, we are grateful to the emergency responders who protected us, and we honour the courage of so many residents who worked together to provide safety and comfort in those dark days.
