20.01.2022 Last Saturday members from Marine Rescue Newcastle showed their respect at the annual wreath laying ceremony at the memorial to Merchant Mariners at Norah Head. RIP.

19.01.2022 The latest episode of MRTV, enjoy https://youtu.be/CG9oowu8lJc

16.01.2022 This morning as apart of both the Anzac Ceremony and start of the Newcastle Gaming Fishing Club competition, NC30 was asked to lead the fleet of some 30 vessels out of the harbour. All vessels commenced following NC30 from Dykes Point where we slowly motored close along the waterfront where once abeam of The Brewery Hotel, we saluted former and serving members of the ADF, both Returned Veterans and Veterans. We then lead the fleet out of the heads where we headed south to a...llow all vessels to set themselves up abeam of each other. At 0745 a cannon was fired from Fort Scratchley to announce a one minute silence in honour of those who have fallen in protecting our country. A second firing was sounded which started the day’s competition. As seen in the pics (and videos following), the harbour never stops. One clip shows all the fishing vessels competing for the waterways with the Dave Allen, Harbour dredge and a bulk carrier, they win. After the ‘carryon’ was sounded by the second cannon firing, the fishing vessels put the throttles full ahead to race to their favourite fishing grounds. Big thanks to our crew for the morning: Ron Calman, Terry Reynolds, Ian Morrow, Rick Nevile and Dianne Hammond. See more

16.01.2022 Yesterday NC30’s new Dry Berth arrived at Carrington ramp. After the delivery guys put the final touches to the berth, NC30 towed it to its new home at NCYC. Have to say NC30 looks great. This dry berth would not be possible without the wonderful grant to us by Port Waratah Coal Services.

13.01.2022 Last weekend valuable time was made to induct three members onboard NC30. Inducting all who serve as crew or an observer is an important training session so they know as much about how this high tech bit of equipment performs and how to deal with the many issues that can come up. Pictured are certified crew Ian Morrow , showing his best angle, Rick Nevile and Mick Quill. The inductees are Rod Keller, Tony Barker and Marina Neil. WELCOME ABOARD.

12.01.2022 This evening Marine Rescue Newcastle attended the annual Newcastle Game Fishing Club dinner where we had been invited to sell raffle tickets to help support our Unit. PENN Fishing technology donated a $800 rod and $750 reel as the prize. Pictured is Ron Calman being presented with the prize by President of the NGFC Dave Teasle. Present selling the tickets were, Ron, Terry Reynolds, Ian Morrow, Rob Downie, Dianne Hammond & Rod Keller,

10.01.2022 Today saw NC30, crewed by Ron Calman, Stewart Lawson and Bill Johnston, activated to assist a medical issue with a crew member aboard a cargo ship some three miles east of Redhead. The crew member was suffering chest pains that had seen him deteriorate overnight. NC30 picked up two NSW Ambulance Paramedics from the yacht club and transported them to the vessel as there was no helicopter access to the vessel and the NSW Police launch was on service in the Port Stephens area. Once alongside the patient was able to climb down the ladder to NC30 where ambo's checked him over and monitored the patient until their return to NCYC. Well done all concerned.

06.01.2022 Strong wind warning and Caution for Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing today.

03.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our followers. Take care and be safe. ALWAYS ABLE - ALWAYS READY

02.01.2022 Just in time for the weekend, the next episode of MRTV is out! MRTV, our new online monthly video magazine, showcases our professionally skilled and dedicated volunteers and world-class vessels and equipment. You can watch this month’s episode here: https://youtu.be/i7bxkay7M68 ... In this episode join us at the opening of our $1.8 million base at Lake Macquarie; get some great tips on safely and quickly launching your boat off a trailer from fishing guru, Michael Guest; drop in to beautiful Broken Bay for the commissioning of new rescue vessel BB 30; hear why VHF is the ‘clear’ choice for VHF radios and finally, take a peek at the architect’s drawings for our new Middle Harbour base. Join us again in early January for another episode of MRTV.

02.01.2022 The picture says it all! A couple of ‘happy boaties’ after NC30 assisted them today after they suffered fuel pump issues not long after departing the North Stockton ramp. NC30 was activated by radio operators Helen Carter and George Vielhauer and crewed by the ‘brass’, being UC Ron Calman and DUC Lynette Van Homrigh who located the two fisho’s about 500 metres from the ramp. Lyn reported to me that are also glad their details are now logged into our Seahawk tracking system which makes it a lot easier to log on with our radio base. Hint hint, always log on and log off. Marine Rescue knowing where you are going might just save your life.
