23.01.2022 It's Weather Wednesday! Do you know the six things you need to understand about wind warnings? Marine Wind Warnings form part of the Bureau of Meteorology's coa...stal and local waters forecasts. They are broadcast on marine radio (VHF and HF), published on the Bureau's website, and available in the warnings section of the BOM Weather app. When a Marine Wind Warning is issued, these are the key features that you should consider. 1. When will the wind warning conditions start? 2. What speed will the wind reach? 3. What area is the wind warning for? 4. What direction will the wind be from? 5. Is there any bad weather expected? 6. When will the warning conditions cease? Find out all about these six vital features here, and keep yourself safer on the water: http://www.bom.gov.au//six-things-about-wind-warnings.shtml

20.01.2022 The next expired flared collection day for Ballina is Friday, 20th November, 2020 at the Fishery Creek boat ramp between 10:30 & 12:30. If you have expired flares, this is the easiest and safest way to get them out of your vessel, shed or garage. There are more collection days in January and April next year.

19.01.2022 Keep an eye on warnings issued over coming days. Stay safe.

18.01.2022 First fine day to get back on the boat ... and the engine fails. Luckily for the two boaters on board this 5m runabout, Marine Rescue Point Danger was on hand t...o return them to safety when they came to a halt on the Tweed River. The crew of rescue vessel Point Danger 20 this morning is Keith Smith, Gavin Bond and Gil Thomas, with Graham Vickery providing comms support.

17.01.2022 Great work by our neighbouring unit.

17.01.2022 Ballina Marine Rescue NSW while out training in BA30 and BA20 became aware of a large tree in the main channel of the Richmond River. The Base issued a Securite warning to all vessels notifying of the danger to navigation. It was decided that the tree should be relocated to a safer part of the river. BA20 having a shallower draft attached a rope and started the tow. With an out going tide and a lot of storm water running out of the river BA20 had a hard time controlling the tree. BA30 have more power took over the tow . The tree was relocated to Mobbs Bay where it will not re-enter the river. Thanks to BA30 skipper Phil Causley and crew and BA20 skipper Tony Hensley and crew not only are they saving lives on the water but are keeping our water ways safe. https://apac01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/

05.01.2022 It was a busy weekend of volunteer assessment in the north of the state over the past few days as 13 volunteers from MR Wooli, MR Evans Head, MR Point Danger, Mr Cape Byron and MR Ballina, led by trainers Courtney Greenslade and Ian Grimwood, undertook a Fire Fighting and Sea Survival course in Ballina. The course provided the volunteers with vital skills to help them should there be an emergency at sea. As well as life-raft training at Ballina pool, the volunteers also under...took practical and theory training in flare deployment and in fire training using both fire extinguishers and blankets. Earlier in the weekend MR Cape Byron volunteer Patrick Deprez received his rating as Marine Rescue Radio Operator and MR Ballina volunteer Norm Lannoy had his Trainer Assessor qualifications validated.
