24.01.2022 A crew from Marine Rescue Batemans Bay is responding in deteriorating weather conditions to rescue a boater whose 4.5m open runabout is stuck on a sandbank near... the bridge on the Clyde River. The crew of Batemans 20 is heading out in rain, hail and strong wind after the boater called for help on VHF Channel 16. The man tried to walk to shore but found himself stuck in mud and has been instructed to return to his vessel as the tide is rising. The call for help was detected by radio operator Margaret Chu at the Marine Rescue Terrey Hills base, monitoring calls to MR Batemans Bay remotely overnight. The crew of BM 20 is Eris Kennedy and Peter Bladwell, with Don Brewster providing communications support in the unit's radio base.

18.01.2022 And an Epirb and lifejackets show their value yet again.

18.01.2022 It has been a busy Christmas Eve morning for our Marine Rescue Batemans Bay volunteers. After being activated for a rescue at the Toll Gates at the entrance to ...Batemans Bay, and then stood down, a second rescue request has seen our Batemans Bay members responding to a 4.5 metre runabout with three people on board that has experienced an engine fire. While the skipper of the runabout was able to extinguish the fire, his vessel is now dead in the water in the channel before the bar. The skipper and his passengers are currently at anchor and safe, with Batemans Bay vessel BB 20, with crew David Murn and John Clements aboard, on its way.

18.01.2022 These furry fellows hanging out at the Narooma Bar this morning get our ‘seal’ of approval. They’re a reminder as we head into whale watching season to keep a look out for wildlife when you are out on the water and to keep a safe distance from seals, whales and dolphins.

A crew from Marine Rescue B...atemans Bay on board rescue vessel Batemans 21 retrieved the pair from the water and righted their boat, which was returned to the Hanging Rock boat ramp. Both were wearing lifejackets.

10.01.2022 It's enough to put anyone into a spin - having your boat going on a boat ride all by itself! Volunteers from Marine Rescue Ulladulla aboard rescue vessel UL 10 ...used a rope to foul the runaway boat's propeller and stall the motor, bringing its jaunt around Burrill Lake to an abrupt end. The boat was then reunited with the owner who had earlier swum to shore unharmed.

09.01.2022 People are being urged to remain clear of a complex salvage operation involving an 18-metre timber fishing vessel Salvatore V that ran aground at Haywards Beach... last Thursday. NSW Maritime Executive Director Mark Hutchings said the boat, which ran aground four kilometres north of Bermagui, is on track to be removed from the beach later this week, weather and sea conditions permitting. NSW Maritime is leading the coordination of the salvage and working closely with the owner of the vessel, the appointed salvage contractor and insurer to develop a salvage plan to ensure the safe and timely removal of the vessel and debris, Mr Hutchings said. The first priority in salvage operations like these is to remove any fuel and pollutants on board to minimise pollution impacts on the environment. The salvor successfully did this on Friday last week by removing 3000 litres of diesel. Given the state of the vessel, it will not be able to be re-floated. Instead it will need to be broken up and removed using heavy plant and machinery." Mr Hutchings said boat operators should continue to be on the lookout for the any debris that could pose a navigational hazard. We urge people to stay away from the site, which is being monitored by staff, and subject to an enforceable exclusion zone of 30 metres from the boat for public safety," he said. Some larger items such as the fuel tank, foam insulation, timber, floats and other fishing equipment have washed up along the beach. We appreciate the community’s patience during the safe management of this response. The vessel was heading back to port and had four persons on board when it ran aground. No one was injured. Under NSW emergency management arrangements, Transport for NSW Maritime is the lead agency responsible for marine pollution response including the removal of the vessel and shoreline clean up. NSW Maritime is working on this response with Environment Protection Authority, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Bega Valley Council. Members of the public who see any suspected debris on Haywards Beach should report it rather than collect it, by contacting the NSW Maritime Info Line 13 12 36 or report via email to [email protected].

08.01.2022 If you are thinking of heading offshore this weekend, conditions are going to be hazardous, especially along NSW sourthern and central coastal areas. The Bureau... of Meteorology have forecast a cold front to cross southeast New South Wales on the weekend, bringing strong to gale force southwesterly winds across central and southern parts of the coast. Seas and swell of 3-4 metres will affect parts of the coast, especially southern and central coastal areas. Coastal bars will become hazardous in these conditions. Boaters should consider inshore boating and delaying heading offshore until conditions improve. For the latest coastal forecast: http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml The image shows modelled swell at midnight on Saturday. (Source: windy.com)

03.01.2022 Planning to be out on the water at the Far South Coast? You will want to check the tides (and wind and wave conditions) before venturing out. The Merimbula channel and bar continue to be affected by wind and wave action. While both are still navigable, skippers need to take into account their own ability and their boat capacity, tide and wind conditions. Observe the bar before crossing and, if it's too dangerous, do not attempt to cross it. Skippers are responsible for the ...safety of their crew and themselves. You can get the tide tables for various locations in NSW on the Bureau of Meteorology website: http://www.bom.gov.au/./projects/ntc/nsw_tide_tables.shtmlT The Bureau's Coastal Waters forecast for our area can be found at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/edencoast.shtml Please take care out there.
