21.01.2022 Please take care if you are on the water or rock fishing today. Remember a life jacket never spoilt a day on the water, but it might save your life.

21.01.2022 Marine Rescue NSW has appealed to boaters along the NSW coastline to stay off the water this weekend. Deputy Commissioner Alex Barrell said conditions in many a...reas along the coastline were not safe to head out on boats, jet skis or other craft such as kayaks or canoes. We really do urge boaters to stay off the water until conditions clear, he said. There will be huge amounts of debris in the water, both floating and submerged, such as large trees and dead animals, caravans and garden sheds. You don’t want to be hitting anything like that. Not only is it going to damage your boat but a collision can easily fling those on board into the murky and polluted water, risking their lives and their health. Channel markers and other navigational aids will have been washed away or displaced in floodwaters and channels and sandbanks can have completely changed shape since the last time you went out. Marine Rescue Coffs Harbour is warning local boaters of a build-up of sand outside of the boat ramp mouth that is causing boats to bottom out or catch their props as they head out or return. On Thursday night, a crew from Iluka Yamba deployed to save a solo sailor on a yacht with engine failure who was trying to cross the bar into the Clarence River under sail but kept being pushed back out to sea by the murky floodwaters pouring downstream, Deputy Commissioner Barrell said. He thanked MRNSW volunteers who had been working since late last week to support flood operations, many in areas far from home. They have evacuated residents and their pets, filled sandbags, conducted welfare checks and in one case, ensured an elderly woman received food and other essential supplies after rescuing her son and a mate from a tree after they got stuck trying to reach her in a kayak on the flooded Manning River, he said. We thank them all for the commitment to serving the community, whenever and wherever they are called upon. Photo by Sam Hennigan via @9NewsAUS

15.01.2022 We have just completed some further upgrades to our base to ensure the safety of anyone visiting our base and of course to provide as safe a work place for our volunteers as we possibly can. I think it also greatly improves the aesthetics of our boat & rwc storage areas. Great work by our Properties Officer Barry, our Unit Commander Gary and our Deputy Unit Commander Colin.

15.01.2022 Volunteers from six Marine Rescue NSW units have provided vital support to flood operations on the Mid North Coast over the past 24 hours, while further south, ...units have responded to emergencies and kept watch on swollen, dirty waterways. Crews from Marine Rescue Port Macquarie, Marine Rescue Crowdy Harrington and Marine Rescue Camden Haven have evacuated residents aged from six months to 93 years from flooded homes and caravan parks last night and today. Members of Marine Rescue Ulladulla, Marine Rescue Tuggerah Lakes and Marine Rescue Broken Bay have provided out-of-area support from a staging point at Taree South. Commissioner Stacey Tannos thanked all the volunteers for their efforts in heavy rainfall and on hazardous waterways as part of the emergency response to assist the community in this time of need. He also thanked members who had maintained radio operations, covered shifts for crews on out-of-area deployments and who faced the lengthy and messy clean-up of their flooded bases and homes. Floodwaters have inundated Marine Rescue Nambucca, MR Camden Haven and MR Port Macquarie bases, with some Camden Haven volunteers' homes and vehicles also flooded. "Our volunteers' greatest strength is their commitment to serving our community, no matter the circumstances," the Commissioner said. "They, along with all the members of the emergency services, are doing a mighty job in these conditions and I thank them all for their determination and persistence." Crews from MR Port Macquarie were tasked this morning to evacuate up to 100 people from the Riverside Resort caravan park, doorknocking residents before transporting a dozen people who chose to leave back to the town's marina. The unit also transported a council employee to carry out repairs to a damaged cable on the Settlement Point ferry, secured a sea plane, jetty, boats and house boat adrift and attended a semi-submerged boat on the local canals. In three separate operations, MR Crowdy Harrington evacuated four women, including a 78 and 93-year-old, to safety with family members. With local roads rendered impassable by floodwaters, MR Camden Haven was tasked to medi-vac a pregnant woman from the Diamond Waters caravan park but found she had made her way safely to hospital. Two people were evacuated from the nearby Dunbogan caravan park. Late this afternoon, members of MR Broken Bay chipped in to help their colleagues from the Forster Pacific Palms SES Unit fill sandbags as part of preparations for potential local flooding. Further south, MR Tuggerah Lakes headed out to investigate the welfare of two windsurfers whom a member of the public had reported to be struggling in the conditions. The pair declined assistance. Marine Rescue Hawkesbury spent the afternoon on a search for a missing man who has not been seen since 8pm yesterday without finding any trace of the 74-year-old. Marine Rescue Cottage Point was called to pump out a waterlogged boat sinking on a mooring at Clareville but as soon as it emptied, it immediately refilled. Marine Rescue Middle Harbour and Marine Rescue Port Jackson were on patrol on a quiet but swirling Sydney Harbour, keeping watch for boats that had come loose from moorings, debris posing navigational hazards or boaters in trouble. A cruiser that washed on to Balmoral Beach could not be retrieved on the falling tide.

15.01.2022 PLAN FOR SURVIVAL THIS BOATING SEASON With National Safe Boating Week and the start of the boating season upon us, there’s no better time to make sure that you and your vessel are prepared if the worst happens. 15.01.2022 Rescue vessels from Marine Rescue Nambucca, Trial Bay & Coffs Harbour were activated about 09:45am this morning after a report was received re a vessel taking on water approximately 8 Nm to sea east of Nambucca Heads. Rescue vessels made their way to the last known location of the stricken vessel but were unable to locate it. Trial Bay vessel was first on scene & commenced a search. A short time later they located 2 persons in the water wearing life jackets. It was establish...ed they were from the missing vessel & were the only persons on board. They advised their vessel had sunk resulting in them having to abandon the vessel and enter the water. Both persons were taken on board the Trial Bay Rescue vessel to be conveyed to South West Rocks to a waiting Ambulance for assessment. Both the Nambucca & Coffs Harbour Rescue vessels returned to their respective bases. A fine example of multiple Marine Rescue Units working together to achieve a great outcome. Thanks to our Skipper Vaughn Thompsett & Crew, Gary Nichols & Theo Ceapa, Radio Ops Barry Flynn & Colin Cracknell.

14.01.2022 There were many many people who gave up their time to support the extraordinary efforts of our fire fighters during this fire emergency. Many towns and villages were directly impacted with lives lost. There were many reports of very brave actions some which cost the lives of firefighters but many that saved many lives and properties. I am humbled to report that 6 of our members from Marine Rescue Nambucca are among the 365 Marine Rescue NSW personnel who are to receive this... prestigious award. I will not reveal their names at this time until we have a set date and a venue where we can ensure Social Distancing to keep everyone safe yet still afford the appropriate dignity the presentation of these awards deserve. Well done Marine Rescue Nambucca.

12.01.2022 Are you heading out on the water this weekend?
