23.01.2022 Picture this: you're a solo yachty and you've fallen overboard. But being safety savvy has helped save your life. This is exactly what happened yesterday, when ...a solo yachtsman fell into the Arafura Sea approx 45km east of Cape Wessel, NT. Luckily, he had done 3 things right: 1. He was wearing a life jacket 2. The life jacket had a PLB attached 3. The PLB was registered with AMSA Working together with the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services, we were able to save his life. We sent our Cairns Challenger Jet to his exact position, and air dropped a life raft to him. At the same time, the NT Water Police dispatched a boat to collect him. This highlights the importance of taking responsibility for your safety at sea! Wearing a life jacket is designed to prevent you from drowning, but a life jacket with a registered PLB will help us find you. Make sure your distress beacon is registered with AMSA today: http://ow.ly/luZY50D0122
