18.01.2022 Today is International Cat Day! Did you know that cats have been human companions for 10,000 years? They are the most popular pet in the world. Cats in Australia are traced back many fewer years maybe not as recent as you might think as evidence suggest that they arrived before European settlement via the many shipwrecks predominantly around the coast of Western Australia. ... International Cat Day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. It is a great opportunity to take some time out to connect with our feline friends, commemorate the special bond between humans and cats, celebrate cats for the love of cats and above all else advocate for the wellbeing and safety of cats locally and worldwide. Each of our clinics and hospitals have adoption schemes, subject to availability and animal suitability. And a timely reminder to that if you are a cat owner to make sure you have invested in their safety by having him or her microchipped and their health is maintained by having them desexed and their teeth fully checked. A healthy cat is a happy cat!
18.01.2022 We hope you have all had a great Monday! Our nurses at our sister site Southern Animal Hospital (L-R) Nicole, Giuliana, Mahayla and Shanna started their week with the total cuteness of these Maltese cross puppies - 3 male and 3 female. However they were not in to see us for cuddles, but for vitally important checks and vaccinations. Do make sure your own four legged friend is up to date!
17.01.2022 Congratulations to all our most recent puppy school graduates. I wish you all the best for the future and looking forward to see you all again! - Emma
17.01.2022 Southern Vet Group were one of the first in South Australia to install a CT scanner. There is a good reason it looks just the same as one you may find in a human hospital, it is because it is! Computed Tomography Scans are used for diagnosing a variety of health concerns for your pet. Patients from our veterinary clinics can be transferred or referred within our own network. However, we also welcome referrals from our friends and colleagues across the veterinary system, p...articularly our neighbouring practices in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, to ease the need for longer trips for owners and pets with a fast, friendly, and professional service. Please call Southern Animal Hospital during opening hours on 8382 3666 for further details. Check out our video featuring Bentley and his visit to the clinic, the amazing images the scanner produces and how a diagnosis can be made.

12.01.2022 We have slightly revised our Covid-19 policy in line with SA Health and government guidelines. We will obviously continue to do so throughout the current pandemic, should any changes be required. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful clients for adhering during the months previous and we look forward to continuing to welcome you to our hospitals and clinics. Keep up the good work SA!
11.01.2022 Sadly, we have seen more Parvo cases in ONE MONTH than we have seen in years at our Hospital! Stay up to date with vaccinations and if in doubt, call your vet... It absolutely breaks everyones heart, both for the owners and the caring team of vets and nurses that support these sick patients through this.
08.01.2022 We finish the week with this wonderful clip of a patient from our Koala and Wildlife Centre at Plympton. At Southern Vet Group we are very proud of the work we continually undertake with native wildlife from across South Australia. Please do show support by liking and following the AKWH Facebook page!
08.01.2022 Our team at Southern Animal Hospital received this Echidna handed in by a member of the public who found him trying to get into their house. As we know Echidnas are homely creatures, but within their own homely environment. Under the supervision of Dr Bertrand he was fully checked over and is now being cared for at our Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital At Southern Vet Group are totally committed to native Australian wildlife and accept any that are found out of place. They then receive the best of care at our clinics before being transferred to the Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital for ongoing treatment ahead of (hopefully!) being released back into their own happy habitat.

07.01.2022 Dogs arrived in Australia between 1,000 and 800 years ago. It has long been known that dogs are our best friends. Now in its 16th year, today August 26 is the day that the world celebrates a day dedicated to our canine companions. Its purpose is to highlight the number of rescue dogs in need of a forever home, whilst also recognising the love dogs bring into our lives and homes and the great work they do on farm properties and also for the emergency and security services and ...those of us living with disabilities. What can we do to do our little bit today? Give your dog a cuddle and tell them you love them! Go for a walk in a new place. Most dogs love exploring new and interesting places with their best friend. Host a playdate. Does your dog have another furry best friend? Bake some dog friendly treats. Donate to your local shelter. Also, to celebrate today we have a short video of just some of the wonderful puppies that have progressed through our pre-schools in the past few months, bringing us and their owners joy during these uncertain times in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDT2qoyz--w&feature=youtu.be
07.01.2022 Is your older cat drinking more and losing weight? Do you know the signs of kidney disease? These could be signs of kidney disease which is common in older cats. ... See your vet for a senior health check if your friend has any of these signs And for further information, read more here https://hillspet.com.au/ca/healthcare/feline-kidney-disease
07.01.2022 Ollie was orphaned as a joey. Thankfully was nurtured and raised by a fantastic carer. His time to be released into the wild is coming close and so he came into our Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Hospital this week for various health tests, where he passed with flying colours! By supporting us, you are helping support sick, injured and orphaned wildlife like Ollie. But for more details on how to donate directly to the hospital, visit the Facebook page Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital or website www.akawhospital.org.au

Could Help Humanity: was featured in the New York Times recently. This is vital research our Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Hospital in Plympton is very proud to have been a part of. https://www.nytimes.com//s/chlamydia-koalas-vaccines.html... Peter has spent the past decade developing a chlamydia vaccine for koalas and is now conducting trials on wild koalas in the hope that his formula will soon be ready for wider release; We can do something in koalas you could never do in humans,. 06.01.2022 Spring has sprung.. Time to really cut that grass! The changing of the season brings us a rise in temperatures and long dry spells. However, this could lead to issues in the coming few weeks and months and if you have grass to mow or tend to it is vital that you do so to protect the health and wellbeing of your pets. We are all aware that snakes like to seek out the cooler long grass. However, with grass left untended as the weather warms the grass seeds are a potential ...veterinary emergency for both dogs, cats and many other pets as they can easily penetrate the skin and eyes and could lead to painful infection. So, keep your grass areas regularly treated and mowed as short as possible!
06.01.2022 Have you purchased your 2020/2021 Entertainment Book yet? https://www.entertainment.com.au/orderbooks/9146s14 Now is a great time to do so as it not only will support business throughout South Australia during these difficult times but also will help with important donations to our Koala and Wildlife Hospital in Plympton. https://www.facebook.com/akawhospital/... The hospital is a not for profit organisation and through the strong links to Southern Vet Group and its world class resources provide emergency veterinary services for injured or orphaned wildlife with the aim of rehabilitation and release. Every little helps and if you purchase from the link above, the Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Hospital receive the funds. So what better way to enjoy great offers and giving to a hugely important cause that is so close to all our hearts?
06.01.2022 The beautiful Paige and her baby Pip came in to our Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital for a check up and x-rays recently. It took some creativity for our medical team to perform the examination and collect a blood sample without disrupting little Pip!
05.01.2022 Recent times have seen many people take on a new dog into their family. We think this is great! However, remember that your dog cannot eat a number of things as these are toxic to them. These include; ... Apples (whole), Apricots, Cherries, Peaches, Plums Chocolate Cooked and Smoked bones Sultanas, Raisins and Grapes Onions and Garlic Macadamia Nuts Avocado We know that due to their very nature a dog could decide to eat something that they should not, beyond our control. There are many other household items and plants to be weary of too. If at any stage they do, or you have any doubt, call or bring them to the vet as soon as possible so that vomiting can be induced.
04.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN ALL EASTER WEEKEND Be safe and keep some important things in mind... But just in case, our friendly team will be there if you need from 8:30am - 5pm all weekend!
