24.01.2022 COMMUNITY SAFETY Over the past few months I have had many discussions with residents of Weston Creek and Molonglo Valley about crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. I have lived in Weston Creek and Molonglo for the past 15 years, so I am acutely aware of what residents are talking about. ... I feel the frustration. What I can promise is if I am elected I will view this as a priority issue and will actively engage with residents to work towards community driven, preventative solutions.

23.01.2022 I am very excited to have the opportunity to publicly demonstrate my support of Canberra’s nurses and midwives. A very little known fact about me is that I started a Bachelor of Midwifery three years ago. Unfortunately, full-time work and three kids got the better of me and I was not able to continue. So in my next life, I’ll be a midwife, and in the meantime 100% hats off to all the nurses and midwives out there and for the amazing work you do.

22.01.2022 CLIMATE and ENVIRONMENT One of the reasons that I am so proud to be running for ACT Labor is that I believe ACT Labor prioritises the environment and has taken active steps to address climate change - we are leaders in Australia and on the global stage. However, we recognise there is much more work to be done! Canberra became the first city outside Europe to be powered by 100% renewable electricity last year and we are on track for zero net emissions by 2045.... Our 2020 election policies will create over 2,000 new jobs directly connected to reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment, such as: Building ACT Labor’s Big Canberra battery Establishing a $150 million no-interest loan scheme to help households install solar panels, batteries and heat pumps Buy 90 battery-electric buses, build a zero-emissions depot and retrofit our existing depots and upskill our workforce, creating up to 500 new jobs as we transition Canberra’s public bus fleet to zero emissions Make major investments in walking and cycling infrastructure and continue to support the rollout of zero-emissions technology like e-scooters and e-bikes. Plant 450,000 trees to meet our 30 per cent tree canopy target. Hire more rangers to help Namadgi National Park recover and rebuild following this year's bushfires Protect our suburbs and surrounding forests and bushland, by not allowing new suburbs in sensitive natural areas like Tuggeranong west of the Murrumbidgee River or in Kowen Forest Fund ACT catchment groups and ACT Wildlife to encourage more people to be more active in caring for nature. Formally sign up and take necessary steps to reduce public and private use of pesticides, to become a bee-friendly city. Continue hiring more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans, including as rangers, as part of our journey of reconciliation, a journey which includes cultural burns and the incorporation of other traditional land management practices, in consultation and partnership with traditional custodians. Phase out single-use plastics by 2022. Bring forward the rollout of the successful bulky waste pickup service to all Canberrans by next year. Roll out a food waste service, and provide every house with a free green bin, kitchen caddie and weekly pickup by 2023.

21.01.2022 Congratulations Marisa Paterson for Murrumbidgee!

19.01.2022 TAX and the ACT Over the past few months, one of the big things people want to talk about and understand is the ACTs tax reform strategy. Tara Cheyne MLA has done a great job stepping out why it’s happening and what it means for residents over the next five years. Please have a read

13.01.2022 LEADERSHIP Murrumbidgee residents If you are looking for a new, fresh candidate who will be a strong and fair leader, please consider me for your number 1 vote. I am new to politics. I’ve always been keenly interested and have watched what politicians and leaders do and how they conduct themselves both in the parliament and on the ground. There are three attributes of a leader that I value. Firstly, the ability to actively listen to constituents. Secondly, the ability to display empathy and compassion. And finally, valuing integrity in the decision making process (i.e. recognising that all decisions will not be popular with all, but through transparency and consultation you take people with you). These are the leadership attributes that I admire, and if I was elected, I would seek to emulate.

13.01.2022 VOTE 1 Murrumbidgee residents - I need your help to get over the line. I need you to VOTE 1 Marisa PATERSON and 2-5 the rest of the Labor team. I am NEW, FRESH and ready to STRONGLY represent you and the community.

11.01.2022 ACT VOTES Tomorrow is literally the most exciting day of my life. You can VOTE in #actelection2020 and you can VOTE 1 for Marisa PATERSON . Running for election is hands down the best thing I have ever done. It has been an amazing experience to spend the last year immersed in the electorate representing ACT Labor. It has been an enormous privilege to meet the people I have met, listen to their stories, challenges, and hopes and aspirations for the community.... To listen, to understand and to STRONGLY represent the local community is what I am 100% committed. I have FRESH energy. I am NEW. I am READY to be your STRONG, local representative. VOTE 1 Marisa PATERSON

09.01.2022 The controversial corflute From the moment the corflutes (election signs) go up, the first couple of weeks is dominated by news stories, public debate and online polls arguing ‘for’ or ‘against’. Prior to running for election my preference was not to have them, but now as a non-incumbent candidate I can also see what an important role they play in raising name recognition and awareness of the candidates. ... As a fence sitter on this issue, I am so grateful to be able to donate all my signs to Vinnies Actsmart Home Energy Efficiency Program. This is a program that St Vincent de Paul Society run on behalf of the ACT Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate across the ACT for low-income households. My corflutes will be used as pelmets for curtains to improve the energy efficiency of households that don’t have adequate window coverings. Broadly, program supports low income households to reduce their energy bills (electricity and gas), by educating people about energy usage and modifying homes to become more energy efficient. This is done through home visitations, during which an Energy Efficiency Officer: performs individual household energy assessment provides tailored advice to help reduce energy usage performs draught-proofing of the house assess eligibility for appliance upgrade programs and fittings, e.g. fridge, reverse cycle air conditioning, curtains and heated throw rugs I am so happy that the signs will not be wasted and will be put to good use both during the election and after. I am very greatful to be able to support this program that assists in reducing bills for low-income households AND goes some way to an environmentally friendly solution to the relatively unfriendly corflute.

07.01.2022 ACT LABOR's plan for MURRUMBIDGEE I am proud to be part of ACT Labor team that will deliver additional services, renewed local infrastructure and more jobs as part of our plan for Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo. Our plan includes the extension of light rail to Woden, a project that will provide better public transport for residents in the Woden Valley, and 6,000 local jobs for Canberra.... Labor will support the jobs of the future through a new CIT campus in the Woden Town Centre, a project that will also include the construction of a new Woden bus interchange. Light rail to Woden, a new CIT campus in the town centre and the new bus interchange will result in the single largest investment in the Woden Town Centre since self Government. A re-elected ACT Labor Government will also deliver a comprehensive plan for Weston Creek. A new outpatient imaging service will be built at the Weston Creak Walk-in Centre, providing CT, ultrasound and X-Ray services. Nurse practitioners will also be available at the Weston Creek walk-in centre to treat a wider range of injuries and illnesses. We will upgrade Brierly Street for a better Cooleman Court and build new intersections on Streeton Drive to improve safety. Labor will invest in upgrades at Duffy Shops and Duffy primary school. Labor’s Plan for Woden & Weston Creek also includes: The delivery of the Canberra Hospital Expansion to provide more elective and emergency surgeries, more beds in our maternity wards, more support for people suffering a mental illness and a bigger and better emergency department Increased capacity in popular Woden primary schools Upgrades at local schools A major upgrade at Woden Valley (Phillip) Enclosed oval Repairs and upgrades to Arawang Netball facility in Stirling and better lighting at Mawson District Playing fields An upgraded playground in Lyons New public toilets at the Farrer Nature Play and in Colbee Court Phillip Upgrade the tracks on Mt Taylor Canberrans in Woden and Weston Creek will also have access to ACT Labor’s sustainable and resilient households scheme, Labor’s food recycling scheme and one day a week of free early learning for three years olds. 06.01.2022 COOLEMAN UPGRADE On the campaign trail with @andrew_barr_chiefminister at Cooleman Court. ACT Labor will invest $2 million to upgrade Brierly Street. This will be a co-design process involving the community and local businesses. ... Having seen how Floriade Reimagined has transformed Trenerry Square into a high-use area, I think further upgrades will make a significant difference to the use and feel of the Main Street- ideally attracting people and businesses to the area. Vote 1 Marisa Paterson and 2-5 rest of the Labor team.
