24.01.2022 Have your say on the future of four prominently positioned, mixed-use and community-zoned sites in Coombs and Wright. Residents of the Molonglo Valley are invited to provide input before Friday 26 March. https://www.yoursay.act.gov.au/coombs-wright-release

21.01.2022 DRUG LAW REFORM in the ACT This week my colleague, Michael Petterson MLA, released draft legislation to decriminalise drug use/possession in the ACT (which you can read on his FB page). This is important legislation designed to address illicit drug use and minimise harm. I understand this is an emotive issue, so I think that it is important that we have a discussion about this. In the video, I outline my thoughts about this proposed legislation and invite you to contact me as... your member for Murrumbidgee if you would like to provide feedback. Please see links below for Australian research relating to this type of legislation: UNSW/ National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre- https://ndarc.med.unsw.edu.au//decriminalisation-drug-use- This link also provides a good overview of the research evidence in Australia - https://ndarc.med.unsw.edu.au//drug-law-reform-annotated-b

20.01.2022 SLOW DOWN On a regular basis I get emails from concerned residents about speeding on suburban streets in the electorate. 5028 traffic infringement notices were issued relating to speeding in 2019/20 and 75% of them were related to exceeding the speed limit by 15km/hr and over. ACT Police describe 'alarming' number of high range speeding incidents in 2020 (Annual Report, p. 59). Today, ACT Police have launched a campaign targeted at speeding and asking drivers to reflect on their driving. It is everyone's responsibility to obey the speed limits.

13.01.2022 NOT IN OUR NAME Due to FB news ban I cant share the link - but if you are interested I had an op-ed published by Riot Act today. The RiotACT An extract: ... 'The leaders at Parliament House need to understand that the media uses our name, ‘Canberra’, to report their workplace culture. Canberra is a thriving, progressive city of nearly 450,000 people, half of which are women. Although we still have a long way to go, we are a city proud of the work we have done to address gender equality. We don’t tolerate violence towards women. We have a Legislative Assembly that has more women than men, of which I am proud to be part of. I refer to the quote from retired Lieutenant General Morrison AO ‘The standard you walk past is the standard you accept’. The people of Canberra do not accept this standard'.

11.01.2022 Have your say on the Canberra Hospital Expansion The ACT Government has been engaging with clinicians and local community representatives on draft plans for the Canberra Hospital Expansion, and is now seeking input from the broader community. The project represents an investment of more than $600 million to boost Canberra’s healthcare capacity, and is the largest investment in health infrastructure since self-government, and will support around 500 jobs during construction.... Draft plans are available now. Visit hospitalexpansion.act.gov.au for more information. This consultation period closes on the 24th February 2021, so if you want to comment on the design visit yoursay.act.gov.au/hospitalexpansion.
