25.01.2022 Last Sunday some of our students participated in Round 2 of the CyberTaipan 2020 cybersecurity competition. This is part of an international program, and Australia is one of only five countries in which this particular competition operates. Following a very successful pilot in 2018/2019, the competition has been offered to students across Australia. The competition consists of two rounds from which the top 10 teams progress to the National Finals. Students are charged with fi...nding vulnerabilities in computer systems Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 and Ubuntu 16. Our results on Sunday were quite good with our teams finishing in 8th, 11th and 13th places. There were 90 teams that took part. Team members are: Marist Team 1 - Year 11: Aidan Ortiz, Michael Gormley, Will Jennings, Hugh Torpie Marist Team 2 - Year 10 & 7: Luke Nisbett, Will Johnson, Ben Hartfiel, Zac Apelt Marist Team 3 - Year 10: Michael Nolan & Liam Morris

22.01.2022 Congratulations to our HPE teacher, Josh Mulligan who was inducted into the Binnacle Way Hall of Fame for excellence in a Fitness program at a school. 22.01.2022 Here is another example of the creativity that has flourished within the Music Department under the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. For Performance Choir, we have been particularly challenged as it has been recognised that the spread of the virus may be higher through the act of singing. This has resulted in around 70 boys rehearsing each week in the Draney Theatre, spread out amongst the general seating and staging. The final challenge was how we would be able to present a performance. This is the result, we hope you enjoy it!

21.01.2022 Our Year 7 and 10 Game Changers students gathered together at the Marist Centre today for a special leadership challenge. Great to see our Year 7 boys step up to the challenge and our Year 10 boys be supportive and encouraging.

18.01.2022 Last week our Year 11 Mathematical Methods students were tackling Differential Calculus which studies the rates at which quantities change. Mrs Klowss put the challenge out there. If the WHOLE class got 100% of the worksheet correct then she would have to bake chocolate chip cookies for them. So how did the boys go? Lets just say that Mrs Klowss spent quite some time in the kitchen that night. #WhoSaidMathsIsBoring

15.01.2022 Last Wednesday the Brothers Community at the College said goodbye to Br Daniel McEwen. Our Boarders formed a guard of honour for Br Daniel which was lead by members from St Johns Ambulance. Over 45 years Br Daniel made an extraordinary contribution to St Johns Ambulance. He led cadet units, trained members, wrote programs, delivered first aid, and was involved in administration and leadership of the Brigade. All of this was voluntary and in addition to his regular duties, but it gave him great satisfaction. And St Johns recognised his contribution; over the years he rose through the ranks - from Serving Brother to Officer, then Commander and finally being invested as a Knight of the Order of St John. Eternal rest grant to Br Daniel, o Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he Rest In Peace. Amen.

14.01.2022 Today marks the last school day for our Headmaster Peter McLoughlin. Peter joined the College in 2009 as the first lay Headmaster at Ashgrove. Over the past 12 years, Peter has tirelessly lead Marist College Ashgrove and developed the wonderful community that we all enjoy today. He is highly esteemed, well respected and an exemplar as both a teacher and as an individual. Peter has worked to achieve a wonderful balance in the College, academic excellence, outstanding sporting... achievements, a music and arts programme second to none, but most important was Peter’s emphasis on character building that made all the boys better men. Peter’s strength was a pillar on which so many students leant. He gave constant encouragement but was firm when needed. He has produced a generation of Marist gentlemen. On behalf of the students and staff, we wish Peter and Paula the very best and THANK YOU for all that you have done for Ashgrove.

14.01.2022 The College would like to congratulate Dr Andrew Butt who has been conferred with the title of Honorary Lecturer, School of Music at the University of Queensland. We are fortunate that our music students get to benefit from the knowledge and experience that Andrew has with his association with The University of Queensland plus the Queensland Conservatorium - Griffith University where he is a member of the Advisory Board. Congratulations once again Andrew on this great honour. #MaristMusic

10.01.2022 BUSINESS STUDIES: Last week our Year 8 Commerce students showcased their entrepreneurial skills and put their classroom learnings into practice during the Year 8 Market Day. 25 stalls, each run by a group of 4 or 5 boys, sold soft drinks, Zooper Doopers, bags of lollies, doughnuts and garlic bread to the rest of the school. In the weeks leading up to the day, boys examined how economic concepts of supply and demand would play out on the day, and planned the financial, operat...ional and marketing aspects of their venture. Each group projected and reported on their expected and actual revenue, expenses and profit and developed their teamwork skills in both the planning for and execution of the stalls. The day was a success, with all stalls selling out some in record time. All stalls made a profit, with total takings across the 5 Commerce classes equalling just over $1900. The profits from the day will be put towards the purchase of gift vouchers to be included in the Marist Christmas Mission Appeal hampers in Term 4.
