24.01.2022 The House Captains have fired up another #isochallenge to get you all going! And I can taste the treats already! So - get out your apron, throw some flour around the kitchen, fill up the piping gun and reach up of the cupboard to find the food colouring; IT'S BAKING TIME!!!! (I'll also happily nominate myself as official taste-tester if you're asking! HA!)

23.01.2022 Some of our Year 11 Extended Investigation students would love your help! They’ve designed and structured their own investigation/research project, and are reaching out for some input from our community. So, if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, please have a read and fill out the survey below! It would be super appreciated! Over to them! Hi Marists! My name is Grace and I am lucky enough to be a Year 11 here at Marist.... For my VCE subject, Extended Investigation, I am conducting a study across the course of this year into the use of Indigenous fire practices in Australia, particularly in relation to bushfire prevention and carbon reduction. As part of this, I have created a survey to help assess the amount of public support for these practices. I know you are all probably very busy, especially as we near the term’s end, but if you have a spare moment, I would really appreciate it if you could fill this out. I should take less than 10 minutes, and all honest responses are highly valuable in my research. Please find the link to the survey below: https://forms.gle/th8ZMrRBo257Ysbh8 I will be collecting responses for the next few weeks. Thank you so much for your help! Stay safe everyone and enjoy a lovely winter holidays

22.01.2022 At Marist we all show we care and ask RU OK? in lots of different ways. No matter how you start the conversation it is important to make sure you follow the 4 steps to a meaningful conversation; ask how they are going, listen with an open mind, encourage action, check back in. It can be hard to start the conversation, but RU OK has great supports to help! https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask ... If you are worried about a friend you may like to check out the Wellbeing Supports offered on the Google Sites: https://sites.google.com//wellbeingstude/wellbeing-support

18.01.2022 Tomorrow is Fourviere Day! For us, that means a liturgy, a host of fun-filled fete activities, a sausage sizzle, casual clothes and a day of celebration! It also means a number of our students will take ‘The Pledge’.... For Marist’s around the world, it’s a day to remember those first Marists, who climbed the hundreds of steps on their way to fulfil their pledge to create the Mary-ist movement that brings us to where we are today!

17.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM DARREN MCGREGOR, PRINCIPAL After consultation with the Leadership Team and in recognition of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria I have decided to have Monday’s Learning Circles via technology. I understand this will disappoint families and educators, but we have the technology to ensure these conversations can still occur and still be very valuable. Marist College Bendigo is currently a very safe place for our students and staff to attend each day. ...In order to preserve this environment amidst the current uncertain conditions, it is not worth the risk of bringing nearly 900 adults onto the site even with the extra hygiene measures we have ready to utilise. Over the last three weeks the necessary preparations for this change have been developed in case we did reach this point. Today your 1:14 Educator will email you and your child all the necessary information to allow the technology links to occur for your Learning Circle with them. No appointment times need change and the staff will conduct the link from Marist. If there is a family that is unable to conduct the Learning Circle via technology then they will be able to attend Marist and safety protocols will be in place. I thank each and every family for your support and I look forward to hearing about the quality conversations which will take place on Monday. Monday remains a student free day.

17.01.2022 James D MacConnell Award Winners We are pleased and proud to announce Y2 Architecture and Marist College Bendigo are the 2020 winners of this prestigious international award. Our work over the last 8 years has been internationally recognised and the key feature was the authentic involvement of staff, students, parents and the broader community throughout the various processes over 8 years. The James D. MacConnell Award recognizes an outstanding, comprehensive planning process..., which results in educational facilities that serve the needs of students, staff, and the community, and facilitates student achievement. Emphasizing the connection between the planning process and the end result, a healthy, high-performing school facility, uniquely assesses how well a school facility supports the academic program of the school district. With on-site interviews of students, school staff, community stakeholders and the design team, the jury thoroughly evaluates the entire process of building a school. The international award program attracts entries from across the globe. https://vimeo.com/moonshineagen/review/468783784/6557567267

16.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM DARREN MCGREGOR, PRINCIPAL We have been informed this afternoon that Catherine McAuley College and St Joseph’s Primary School Quarry Hill will close for a deep clean, due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 at each school. Both schools are following protocols and direction by the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). Marist College Bendigo will operate as normal tomorrow. ... A member of our community should only seek testing or change normal routine if contacted directly by DHHS in relation to contact tracing or as is the ongoing advise if you show flu-like symptoms.

16.01.2022 Here are some snaps of the Year 10 Total War ‘Remembrance Day’ (COVID-safe) commemoration project. Students from each Learning Experience were asked to contribute poppies to acknowledge the fallen solider from past conflicts, in honour of Remembrance Day today. Due to the inclement weather today, the ‘planting’ of the poppies looked a little different to the original plan. Here are some of our Year 1 students during the minute's silence. Scott and Isobel at La Valla, and Jordan and Sienna out the front of Montagne.

09.01.2022 Marist College Bendigo is today celebrating the successful completion of schooling for their VCAL and VCE students. After a year where the senior class has given so much to their school community through leadership and service of others today is a day to focus on their own wonderful academic achievements. College Dux for 2020 is Sarah Sinapius with an ATAR of 97.55 closely followed by College Captain Luke Basile with 96.9. Sarah plans to enrol in a double degree in Monash U...niversity while Luke is leaning towards Chemical Engineering at The University of Melbourne. 23% of VCE students sitting the VCE achieved an ATAR above 80. Principal, Mr Darren McGregor said he was very pleased with the academic performance of the students through an incredibly challenging year. He was also very proud of the entire cohort across VCE and VCAL. He said there are so many stories of great personal success where students have achieved study scores beyond their hopes. It is important to remember that each student has goals and dreams and meeting these is fantastic whether that be an ATAR in the 90s or 60s or the successful completion of VCAL and an apprenticeship being attained. To complete Year 12 in 2020 is an outstanding achievement and I am immensely proud of every single student and very grateful to the hard-working staff who have worked tirelessly to guide these students through this very demanding experience.

09.01.2022 It’s not too late to join the Champagnat 2021 Subject Selection information sessions. Educators are available until 7pm to answer your questions. Jump online now!!

09.01.2022 Don’t forget we have our ‘wear a splash of blue’ casual day tomorrow! Why? Great question! It’s to support Vinnies! Every year in the lead up to Christmas, and as part of our Lenten reflections, we give because we can to our local Vinnies. This year we’ve asked our students to donate a non-perishable food item, or a small gift (ideas have been on our screens around the school) that we’ll place under our Giving Tree and then pass onto Vinnies.... And here is our Giving Tree! Constructed by Joel Frankling, one of our Year 10’s, that currently has pride of place in the Nest, waiting to be surrounded in the coming days. Our Student Social Justice team thanks you all for your support!

05.01.2022 The Last of the First! Today, we said goodbye to the last of our foundation year levels; the class of 2020. It kicked off with a breakfast, moved into a gathering of the Year 12’s, our streamed, whole-school assembly, and finally, a guard of honour and final farewell.... In the words of your leaders, you’ve watched your school transform from a paddock, to a community. We’ve grown from 18 staff, 200 students, one building and a bunch of portables to a huge faith and learning community of more than 1500. Live your life. Say yes to opportunities. Enjoy the adventure that is your life. Remember us all here at Marist, and remember that you’ll always be welcome on Marist lands. As Luke said, Carpe Diem! Thankyou and goodluck from one OG, on behalf of all the OGs (and all the staff!), to the last of the OGs

02.01.2022 Marist College Bendigo has 5 Students, 1 Parent and 2 Educators taking part in the Act for Peace ration challenge this week. The challenge sees us eating the same rations a refugee would eat for 5 days. We are doing this challenge to raise awareness, funds and to stand in solidarity with the nearly 80 million refugees around the world, many whom are living in overcrowded conditions, with limited access to food, healthcare and sanitation. Already living a nightmare, it’s a hu...ge injustices that these communities will now be hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.
