22.01.2022 Supporting a remote community to recover from a natural disaster like Tropical Cyclone Harold is challenging at the best of times, but to do so in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic has required complex and sustained efforts, and we are extremely grateful for the donations we have had to our appeal. On Wednesday, June 24, supporters of AMS joined us online to hear from Br Raphael and others direct from Espiritu Santo. Our CEO Bec Bromhead interviewed them about the impact Tr...opical Cyclone Harold has had on the region and the students at the college and also the challenges the COVID-19 restrictions have placed on the recovery. 15.01.2022 UPDATE: Marist Champagnat Institute (MCI), Fiji When MCI students returned to school in July, the first priority for staff and students was to re-establish the school gardens. The weeds were quickly conquered, and classes set up their plots in a remarkably quick time. Students were happy to be back at school and to be working side by side with their classmates and teachers. Their hard work is now coming to fruition as harvesting begins and long beans, dwarf beans, cucumber...s, Chinese cabbage, chillies, tomatoes, coriander, all available for sale to staff, students, parents and neighbours. Fresh produce. Worth all the hard work. The students are certainly proud of their efforts and planting continues as space is freed up after harvesting. MCI offers programs to young people who have struggled to fit into mainstream schooling. An initial two-year course focusses on learning how to learn, literacy, numeracy and building self-confidence. At its completion, students are encouraged to return to mainstream schools or undertake a further two years of vocational training in computing, catering, tailoring, agriculture, engineering, woodwork or childcare. #makingadifference #donate #solidarity #covidcantstopgood

15.01.2022 Thank you Marist College Canberra for your wonderful and much needed support. Well done to all! #Solidarity #makingadifference #covidcantstopgood #endcovidforall

15.01.2022 On this day in 1816, twelve Priests, seminarians and aspirants climbed the hill to the shrine of Our Lady of Fourviere In Lyon, France, and pledged to found the Society of Mary. Their vision was all embracing and sought to gather together Priests, Brothers, Sisters and lay men and women to form a Marist family with four branches. Today we celebrate the Fourviere Pledge and reflect upon our own work which sees us partner with all branches of the Marist family to bring hope to vulnerable communities across Asia and the Pacific.

14.01.2022 Today we honour the revered Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. She was the first Saint of Australia, and her influence in the country has spread far and wide. She is recognised for her commitment to the poor, helping those who needed it the most in any way she could.

13.01.2022 GOOD NEWS UPDATE: At a meeting of Directors and senior staff of the fourteen tertiary institutes in Timor Leste, on Thursday, 16 July, the Director of ANAAA, the National Tertiary Education Accreditation Agency in Timor Leste, Dr Edmundo Viegas, announced the results of the past four years of accreditation that the agency has completed. In the period 2016-2019, ICFP was assessed as one of only three Institutions that gained full marks for governance and management practices a...nd was also judged the best Institute in Timor Leste for the Faculty of Education with an average score for its Bachelor of Teaching degree and Licentiate degree five percentage points ahead of the next Institute. To have these results announced in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, was a bonus. ICFP's Director of Quality Assurance, Margie Beck, who recently was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours, deserves a great deal of credit for her work at ICFP; she's just returned to Timor and is in quarantine, but is delighted with this good news story for ICFP. 11.01.2022 Here is another example of the creativity that has flourished within the Music Department under the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. For Performance Choir, we ...have been particularly challenged as it has been recognised that the spread of the virus may be higher through the act of singing. This has resulted in around 70 boys rehearsing each week in the Draney Theatre, spread out amongst the general seating and staging. The final challenge was how we would be able to present a performance. This is the result, we hope you enjoy it! See more

09.01.2022 GOOD NEWS UPDATE! We are pleased to report that the wall surrounding the Marist Nursery and Primary School in Viyazhanmedu is progressing. The school grounds lead onto an abandoned field near a rice mill and is full of thorny bushes as well as being home to dangerous snakes and insects. This wall will now keep students out of the abandoned field and keep people from wandering through the school grounds. Parents of the students have raised concerns about the danger. The M...arist Nursery and Primary School opened in 2015. Viyazhanmedu is a rural village in the Trichy region. Most of the students come from poor farming families, others have parents who work as day labourers. The families are charged a small fee to pay for the teachers salaries and maintenance of the school. A big thank you to St Patrick's Marist College who support this project. #covidcantstopgood #solidarity #thankyou
