I’ve recently rediscovered how much I really love working with clay- it’s become such a happy fulfilling activity which helps me recharge my batteries What are you doing at present that you’re really enjoying that’s helping to recharge your batteries? Would love to hear.

16.01.2022 How do you get your resume into the yes pile? I’ve recently been helping a Board to recruit their next CEO and as the process was a hotly contested one, I’ve needed to review a large number of resumes. It reminded me again that there’s a huge difference between a good resume and a very average one. The purpose of a good resume is to get you to progress to the yes pile (rather than the maybe or no pile) when shortlisting.... When helping clients revise their resume, my intention is that they create a document that they’re really proud of and that they’re happy to share with anyone. It takes effort, but is well worth it! Here are my top tips to get your resume into the yes pile: 1) Make sure the front page positions and sells you for the role: a) Include an overview of your career (that says who you are and what you’ll bring) and b) Highlight your key strengths which are relevant to the role. 2) Make your resume easy to read: a) plenty of ‘white space’, well-spaced, consistent font, minimal capitals & footer b) no more than 4 pages and your employment history no longer than the last 10 years (no one cares what you did in 2001) What’s important for you in a resume when you’re recruiting for a role? _______________________________________________ Needing some help to get your resume right? 14.01.2022 The early part of my professional career was as a palliative care nurse. My years in this challenging and deeply rewarding profession taught me so much about what really matters in life. Some of the saddest circumstances I recall from this time, relate to hearing about peoples regrets, when they were no longer able to do anything about it. I recently read the results of a survey compiled by Daniel Pink http://bit.ly/Regret-Survey. One of the key findings from this survey was ...that respondents overwhelmingly regretted things they didn’t do rather than things they did. One of the other most common themes was that people regretted living someone else’s life rather than being true to themselves. If you are being true to yourself and being brave, what would your next step be? 09.01.2022 Can you stay too long in a job? When you’re in a role and an organisation which is doing good work, the years can slip by. You like what you’re doing and you’ve built great relationships - is it really a problem how long you stay? The answer is it dependson a range of circumstances.... If you have that nagging feeling, that you should move on, I suggest you think about these things: What’s the impact on you, if you stay put? What’s getting in the way of you moving? Is it time to take the next step in your career? If yes, is it possible inside the organisation or would it be better to look elsewhere? How might future employers view you staying in the one role/organisation long term positively or negatively? What do you think can someone stay in a role too long?
