23.01.2022 When was the last time you checked equipment on your boat to see if they were still in date, these can include inflatable life jackets, flares, EPIRB, fire extinguisher etc. Check them before you next go out it can save a life and avoid a penalty from RMS or the Water Police. A laminated date tag on each item serves as a great reminder or set a reminder in your phones calander

17.01.2022 From 31 March 2020, NSW Government public health directions have been updated requiring people to stay at home unless they have a reasonable excuse. However, ...as there is on land, there are exceptions that apply on water. If you go out, social distancing rules always apply at the boat ramp and on your boat. You should only be on your boat alone, or with no more than one other person; or with family who ordinarily live in the same household as you. A reasonable excuse to use your boat could be to: 1. exercise (e.g. kayaking/sailing/paddling etc); 2. fish; 3. get to and from work, where the work cannot reasonably be performed from home; 4. get groceries; and 5. provide assistance, care or support to an immediate member of the persons family. Unless you have an essential need to be out - stay ashore. If you do need to go out, stick to your local waters, and do not gather with more than 2 people unless with members of the same household. It is important to remember that the self-isolation rules apply at all times. Packing up your boat for a road trip and a half day fishing expedition is also not in the spirit of the restrictions. Skippers are always responsible, generally this is applied to safety equipment, keeping a proper lookout and proceeding at a safe speed. For the latest information on coronavirus and current restrictions, members of the community are encouraged to check the NSW Government website (http://nsw.gov.au) for regular updates.

12.01.2022 Due to continued flooding on the Nepean River, the council has kept the boat ramp at Penrith closed, as a result this weekends course has been postponed. We expect the ramp to re-open early next week after they have some heavy machinery come in to move the mountains of mud left behind.
11.01.2022 The difference 10 minutes can make, no fog to heavy fog, our licence class now has the theory first and the practical after the fog clears.
10.01.2022 We have been advised by the Office of Maritime Communications that due to COVID19 that all Invigilators are to ceases offering VHF radio licence testing until advised otherwise. 09.01.2022 Some information on our NSW waterways from Transport NSW about the flood impact. Just a heads up that our local RMS BSO Craig was on the Nepean River yesterday ...checking out missing markers and damage to any of their infrastructure. Transport for NSW Media Release 21 FEBRUARY 2020 Fires and floods continuing to impact NSW waterways NSW Maritime Executive Director Maritime Mark Hutchings today reassured the community recovery efforts on the NSW waterway network are well under way. The size of the job is considerable in re-establishing the network of navigation markers, clearing debris and salvaging boats following heavy rainfall, and in some cases flooding, combined with recent high tides, Mr Hutchings said. Never have we been faced by such a widespread clean up task. Normally when there is a flooding event it is localised to one area but this recent weather event has impacted waters right across NSW. The spike in navigation hazards represents a 2500 per cent increase in the normal workload and ranges from removing 100 kilogram trees from the bushfire-weakened banks of the Hawkesbury River to relocating channel markers which have travelled more than 50 kilometres on flood waters. On the Shoalhaven River, more than half of the 115 navigation markers, which indicate a channel or a hazard, needed to be adjusted or placed back in their correct location. Three separate channel markers, which have a 300 kilogram mooring block attached to a chain, travelled on flood waters about 50 kilometres along the Hawkesbury River from Colo to within a kilometre of each other at Barr Point. In the past two weeks, the Maritime Environmental Services team has recovered the equivalent of 858 wheelie bins of floating debris, including 574 navigation hazards from Sydney Harbour and tributaries. During the whole month of January 166 cubic metres of rubbish was removed. Mr Hutchings said the effects of recent bushfires were complicating the waterway recovery task. At Batemans Bay many of our stores of navigation markers which support the needs of the whole state were destroyed during bushfires - all of the plastic buoys melted, he said. There is still ash and bushfire debris swirling in waterways on the south coast, so its important boat operators keep an eye on vessel intakes to ensure they dont get blocked and engines dont overheat. Mr Hutchings said there was also an ongoing effort to remove multiple large established trees which had fallen into the Hawkesbury River in fast moving flood waters after bushfires had weakened their root systems. NSW Maritime is using a risk-based approach in terms of the order of dealing with debris in the water or boats which require salvaging, he said. We have contractor teams up and down the coast but they just cant be everywhere at once. We also have an obligation to give the owners of vessels a reasonable amount of time to rectify the situation this can be 14 to 21 days. Reports of navigation markers out of their original location, or vessels washed up on beaches or rocks are appreciated and can be made on 13 12 36.
