01.01.2022 Disappointing News Conservationists are up in arms after a prescribed burn in the South West decimated one of only two numbat habitats left in Western Australia. Numbats are small marsupials that live exclusively off termites and are the only truly diurnal marsupial, meaning they are active during daylight hours.... They were once widespread throughout arid and semi-arid regions of WA, the NT and SA, but are now found only in two nature reserves in WA Dryandra and Perup. In 2014 their conservation status was elevated to "endangered" Fewer than 2,000 are estimated to be left in the wild. https://www.abc.net.au//prescribed-burn-decimate/100110960
