22.01.2022 Rewind to yesterday with Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney Imagine receiving the worst news possible your child is seriously ill and you need to uproot your family to receive lifesaving treatment for your child. How would you feel? How would you respond? Yesterday I began an immersive, 24 hour experience at Ronald McDonald House Randwick - CEO Walk in my Shoes, to find out more about this incredibly stressful and uncertain path, walked by the parents and families of se...riously ill kids. This program details exactly what a family goes through when they are given the shocking news that their child is sick and will take us through to obstacles and challenges of relocating to Sydney for treatment. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of what parents and carers go through on a daily basis, as well as getting an opportunity to see what it takes to create the best possible experience for families staying at the House.

20.01.2022 Youth Mental Health I recently spoke in Parliament to shine a light on the mental health crisis facing our local young people. I also addressed the chronic disparity of mental health support between the public and private schools within the electorate of Coogee.... The final years of school are often the most memorable, yet they can also be some of the most difficult years that any young person can face. If you experience stress and anxiety in one of the local private school, you are able to see a counsellor that same day. If you experience the same symptoms in a local public school, your wait time could be up to 3 months. This situation is completely unacceptable and shows that this Government has completely neglected this incedibly important issue.

17.01.2022 Don't forget to head down to Bondi and check out the free @headonphotofest photo festival. Growing up I was obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and the story of a curious girl who who isn't afraid of standing up to bullies. Obviously, @dannykneebone Alice-ism caught my attention

16.01.2022 It was a pleasure to attend the Waverley Council Remembrance Day ceremony this morning. 102 years ago today the signing of the Armistice saw the end of WWI. The sacrifices made by those who served in WWI can, and never should, be forgotten. Today we remember the 60,000 Australian lives lost and the 156,000 wounded or taken prisoner. Today we thank all Australians who have served in other wars, battles, conflicts, and peace missions. We appreciate the immense sacrifices th...at these Australians made in order to maintain the peace and safety of our nation. The loss of life and the traumatic impact of this violent conflict on these soldiers will always be remembered. Lest we forget.

15.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Last week was NAIDOC week. A time to recognise that First Nations People have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The very first footprints on this continent, were those belonging to First Nations People. Their history, is our history. It should be acknowledged and celebrated by all Australians. We must all work together to develop treaties with First Nation People, to ensure people do not have to compromise their Abori...ginality to be successful. This is why it is incredibly important for the NSW Government to implement structures such as the Walama Court, that would represent a significant step in addressing issues relating to police brutality and incarcerations rates for indigenous people. It is our responsibility to develop these strategies in order to improve the lives and opportunity of our Indigenous children. NAIDOC week provides the opportunity for all Australians to rejoice in our nation’s history and invites us to recognise that indigenous sovereignty was never ceded.

14.01.2022 In 2018, before the State election, the Government committed to oppening a new Service NSW service centre in Randwick. Two years on and in a year where more people than ever had needed to access Government services and support, there is no Service NSW centre in Randwick. This year's budget, released last week, allocated no money to a Service NSW centre in Randwick, which means this vital public service centre is not on the horrizon.... Along with the privatisation of the Eastern Suburbs buses, the cutting of our some of our most beloved bus services and a lack of funding for public education infrastructure, this is another broken promise from this Government for locals in the Eastern Suburbs. Along with this notice of motion given last week and several questions on notice, I will be writing to the Minister for Customer Service and calling on him to fast track this service centre and support the people of the Eastern Suburbs. You can read these questions and others in the Question and Answer paper of NSW Parliament, linked below: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//qanda-tracking-details.

12.01.2022 Today it was a privilege to adjudicate the finals of the Public Speaking Competition between the students of St Brigid’s Primary School and St Margaret-Mary’s. Congratulations to all the student finalists for their efforts. Public speaking involves courage and commitment. Today these qualities were certainly on display, with an array of speeches that were presented by students at an incredibly high standard. It was extremely difficult picking the winners!

10.01.2022 A project that ended up costing $3.1 billion shouldn't start falling apart within a year of being opened. This is simply not good enough. From: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//1237cd0c7ebc7068b97de6d

07.01.2022 This Victory Day, I honoured all those who sacrificed their lives in the fight against fascism.

07.01.2022 At 50km per hour, a vehicle takes approximately 37m to stop, at 40km per hour, it can stop in 27m. If a pedestrian is hit by a car at 50km per hour, they may only have a 10% chance of survival where as at 40km per hour, their chance of survival goes up to 60%. Statistics like these, provided by Transport for NSW, make clear that lower speeds on local roads will make commuting safer for vehicles and pedestrians alike.... The 2020 Coogee School Safety Survey, run through my office, revealed that the number one concern for local parents was the impact that vehicle speed has on the safety of road crossings. We have launched the 2021 school safety survey, which is linked below, for all parents, carers, teachers and students, to identify safety issues on their commute to and from school. Reducing the speed on local roads is sure to make a positive difference on safety along our local commutes. https://marjorieoneill.com.au/community/our-schools/ https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//7e7d5bc082210e20123d101

05.01.2022 Thank you to the 80,000 people that have signed petitions to Save Our Buses from cuts and privatisation. Yesterday Michael Daley MP, Ron Hoenig MP and I led the 2nd debate in NSW Parliament, as part of our continuing campaign to save our beloved buses. These cuts will hurt the local people, that catch their local buses to the Doctors, supermarkets, Libraries and Beaches and to get wherever they need to go. Thank you to those who have shared their stories with me. ... Earlier this year it was revealed that the NSW Liberal Government plans to cut 16 bus routes from our local area the equivalent of removing 1600 buses from our network each weekday! Yesterday we called on the NSW Liberal Government to abandon these plans, which will devastate our local bus services. I will continue to fight against these cuts and any cuts to our public transport services. I wish to thank every person that has signed a petition, as well as Unions NSW and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union NSW Branch for their advocacy and support in saving our buses.

04.01.2022 The big banks have turned their backs on communities across all of NSW, putting profits before people. In the East, all of the big four have chosen to permanently shut banks, making it harder for people to access this essential service. A huge shout-out must go to the Clovelly Community Bank Branch. Not only did they keep their doors open all through COVID, 80% of profits go back to community projects.

02.01.2022 It was fantastic to cut the ribbon this morning at the opening of the new Coogee Bay Road Shared Village Project with Danny Said Mayor of Randwick! The project has widespread community support, and has helped slow down traffic and increase pedestrian safety and a village feel to the strip. It will make Coogee Bay Road a more pleasant space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy, and help businesses on their COVID recovery journey.
