(Part of the @a_higher_branch New Year Challenge) I first wrote about the incredible benefits of earthing over 11 years ago and the research has been growing ever since. Earthing or grounding (simply connecting to Mother Earth, preferable with bare feet) is one of the world’s most powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging medicines, with evidence suggesting it may help everything from heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, arthritis an...d joint pain, insomnia, auto-immune diseases, to athletic performance. Improved sleep and reduced pain are two of the quickest and most common benefits people experience. Your Life Hack for 2019: - At every opportunity, sit down on the grass, get out in the garden or walk in a park. If you live or work in a high-rise building or apartment, be extra vigilant about grounding yourself in these ways. - Walk barefoot on wet or damp sand or grass wherever possible - this is the best of all. - If you do yoga, tai chi or other similar exercises in the mornings, where appropriate do them outside ... barefoot on the ground. - Instead of a city holiday this year, look to visit a national park or ‘go bush’. 02.01.2022 WHAT DIRECTION DOES YOUR BED & DESK FACE? Did you know the quality of your sleep & work performance can be affected by whether you face north, south, east or west? Recent brain research has shown how facing different directions critically affects our brain's ability to sustain integrated cognitive functioning, coherence & max mental performance (Keys to health & business success). Based on the principles of c...orrect building orientation as outlined in many traditional Eastern sciences, principally ancient Vedic science (where it's known as 'Vastu Shastra'), studies on brain function have shown that the firing patterns of neurons in the thalamus - which regulates sensory information and levels of awareness - are significantly different depending on which direction we face. Basically, cells in our nervous system detect and respond to changes in body position. Look in one direction and a specific set of neurons activate. Look in another direction and a different set activate. So what is the best direction for optimal brain performance and work success? EAST. From the research, it is strongly indicated that facing east is the best direction for peak work performance and all round mind-body integration. The next best is north. The early studies suggest facing east for more ‘creative thinking’ and north for more ‘clear thinking’. South and west are considered unfavourable and should be avoided where possible. Sleep Troubles? According to Maharishi Vedic Science - a modern-day restoration of ancient Vedic science - our head direction also significantly impacts the quality of our sleep. If you don't sleep well see if your head while sleeping points north or west. Both of these are considered inauspicious. Sleeping with one's head pointing to the East, (feet to the West) is known to promote more enlightened (wakeful) sleep. For deeper sleep, it is suggested you have your head to the South (feet to the North).
