Comments: A Bluebottle (Physalia physalis) lays stranded on a lonely beach after being washed ashore during a large storm the previous night. An interesting fact is that the Bluebottle, also known as the Portuguese Man-of-War, is not a single animal but a colony of four kinds of highly modified individuals or zooids. These different zooids are dependent on one another for survival.

Comments: The telescope is an array of six identical 22-metre (72 ft) diameter dishes, which are operated to produce radio images. Five of the dishes can be moved along a three-kilometre (2 mi) railway track oriented east-west. The sixth antenna is situated three kilometres west of the end of the main track. Each dish weighs about 270 tonnes (270 long tons; 300 short tons).

It is a common misunderstanding that Sun Voyager is a Viking ship. In fact, Sun Voyager was essentially envisaged by the artist as being a dream boat. It is an ode to the sun, conveying the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.

The name is thought to mean "lot of water" in the langauge of the local Aboriginal people, but it has been endless generations since there was a lot of water here.

Comments: The massive orange glow on the horizon was caused when lightning, from the approaching storm, took out the power to the massive Otway Gas Plant at Waare. The natural gas plant automatically goes into a process of de-pressurizing. Gas is vented into the air via a large chimney and is burnt off as it is being vented. The gas plant is 12 kms away (as the crow flies) from where the photo was taken.
