25.01.2022 Queensland will re-open it's borders to New South Wales and Victoria on the 1st of December. This is great news for our tourism industry and families desperate to see interstate loved ones.
24.01.2022 GOLD DRIVER LICENCE: If elected next month, the LNP will reward safe driving in Queensland, with the release of a new 10-year gold driving licence. For those drivers who have not accumulated any demerit points in the 10-year period leading up to their licence renewal, they will be rewarded with a 10-year licence for the cost of the standard 5-year one. Slowing down on the road could save your life and now it can save money as well.
24.01.2022 Afternoon Community Roadsides, today I was at Upper Coomera near the community centre on Reserve Road.
24.01.2022 It is great to see our local Rural Fire Brigade legends have good taste in sporting teams whilst photo bombing the Ute. Go the eels! Plus thank you to the many locals who stopped for a chat.
23.01.2022 New Helensvale farmers market is on again today at Helensvale State High School. (every Saturday from 6am till 11am.) The weather is ideal and the place is buzzing. Come down and support local small business and buy some fresh produce. Plus grab yourself a bacon and egg roll breakfast from the P&C stand. Profits go to help the school
22.01.2022 School holidays are over and that means there will be a lot of excited young students heading back to school today. Please take extra care around school school zones.
22.01.2022 With honour they served. Today on National Police Remembrance Day we honour the sacrifice of fallen officers and pay tribute to their families. ... Our local communities are forever grateful for your service.
22.01.2022 The New Bradfield Scheme is a big, bold, visionary plan. It will hold as much water as 28 Sydney Harbours and allow an area larger than Tasmania to be irrigated in outback Queensland. It will irrigate the fertile black soil plains south and west of Hughenden. This will lock in food security for generations to come. The scheme will then divert water into the Warrego River and the northern basin of the Murray-Darling System. The Scheme would use gravity to feed water from the H...ells Gates Dam through tunnels beneath the range to divert water west. It would also generate up to 2,000 megawatts of green energy through a series of hydro-electric plants. It will easily be the biggest hydro-electric project this state has ever seen, powering up to 800,000 Queensland homes. More here: www.deb2020.com.au/newbradfield/
21.01.2022 I have a vision to make Queensland the low tax state again: a state that gives our businesses a competitive advantage and the confidence to create jobs. An LNP ...Government will slash taxes to drive a Build-to-Rent boom. We will reduce land tax by 75 per cent. Our plan will secure $2 billion worth of investment, create 4600 construction jobs and 4,000 new homes over the next ten years. With nearly 200,000 Queenslanders out of work and an unemployment rate worse than Victoria, the LNP will be bold with our economic plan to create jobs. 20.01.2022 Coronavirus Update 2 October Some big announcements today Firstly, from the Federal Government ... New Zealanders and other residents in New Zealand who haven’t been in a designated COVID hotspot in the last 14 days will be able to travel to NSW and the NT without quarantining from Friday 16 October at 12:01am. The definition of a COVID hotspot finalised by Australia’s Acting Chief Medical Officer is what they’re calling ‘3 by 3’ rule. That’s no more than 3 locally-acquired cases in 3 days in one particular area. They’re calling it a ‘robust and proportionate’ definition and this bubble will be extended to other states who accept this definition for COVID hotspots. South Australia is likely to be next, they’re apparently almost ready to sign up. There’s no word on whether Queensland will yet. With Kiwis not having to quarantine this is going to free up quarantine places in hotels in Australia for other Australians returning home. If Queensland signed up, it would free up 250 spaces for other Australians to return home. Just to give you an idea of what this market is worth to Queensland, in terms of tourist numbers the Gold Coast alone usually sees over 210,000 visitors from NZ every year Updates from Queensland From this afternoon (Friday) at 4pm, you can stand up to drink in a bar or other licensed venue You won’t have to remain seated anymore. No changes to the Footloose-like ban on dancing yet. That will be further reviewed in December There’s also been a new roadmap released today for the next few months. It’s got all the previously announced details for October plus finally some more detail on what’s next. From 1 November The Queensland border will reopen fully to NSW if there is no community transmission for 28 days. Gatherings will also increase from 30 to 40 Weddings can have up to 40 people dancing The 1 November changes will be reliant on a ‘COVID Safe Checkpoint’, where the Chief Health Officer looks at transmission to decide if we’re ready to go ahead to the next stage. You can find the Roadmap here https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au//DPC7309-COVID-19-Restricti
19.01.2022 Fantastic morning at Helensvale Westfield with Sam O'Connor MP chatting with locals. Thank you to Westfield for allowing me to stay an extra couple of hours talking to locals. It was a never-ending stream of locals wanting to chat into the afternoon.
18.01.2022 Walk for Jack is on Sunday 13th December, the anniversary of Jack’s passing at Damian Leeding Park. See below for info and click on below link for tickets https://www.jackbeasleyfoundation.org/p/walk-4-jack-tickets
18.01.2022 E-Petition: Increased penalties for unsafe vehicle loads Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need to implement harsher punishments for motorists who do not secure their vehicle loads in an appropriate manner. Regularly we see equipment and materials laying on or beside roadways due to unsecured or inappropriately secured loads. This places other motorists at risk of vehicle damage and even life-threatening situations.... Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to increase penalties to 4 demerit points and $1,000 fines for those in breach. This copies the recent increase in penalties for using a mobile phone whilst driving as it also potentially places motorists in life-threatening situations. https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au//petit/petition-details.

Another busy day/week. Big shout out to Sri Lanka versus India cricket match at Riverstone Crossing today. 16.01.2022 It has been a tough time for many small businesses and the travel industry has suffered terribly. We have a choice. Book your weekend away or next adventure in Queensland through a local travel agent that employs Australians and keeps the profits here. Alternatively, you can book your holiday on an online travel or hotel booking website that is foreign-owned, profits go overseas and employ foreigners. Please support our local agents, they need your support to survive, businesses like Helloworld at Helensvale, a family-owned business.

15.01.2022 LNP’S BOLD PLAN FOR THE BRUCE: The LNP will supercharge the regions by building a four-lane Bruce Highway from Gympie to Cairns. This big, bold plan will be the biggest infrastructure project regional Queensland has ever seen, creating around 100,000 jobs and turning Queensland’s most important road into its best road.... We know it will be a massive investment but it will be worth it. The Bruce Highway is critical to our economy, but huge sections of the road are too slow and too dangerous. A faster, four-lane Bruce would ensure that local farmers and businesses can send and receive deliveries on time. A better Bruce Highway will also encourage more tourists to visit and explore our region. Only an LNP Government has a plan to get Queensland working again.

13.01.2022 Jack Beasley lost his life far too young. He should have celebrated his 18th birthday in April. Instead he was killed in a random knife attack at Surfers Parad...ise late last year. We've seen a spate of knife crime recently, particularly on the Gold Coast. We can't let senseless crimes like this continue and see heartbroken families like Brett and Belinda left to pick up the pieces. Today I announced a commitment to ask the Queensland Law Reform Commission to look at new laws to tackle knife crime. We want to see increased stop and search powers for police. We want to target hot spots and take action. Together with the Jack Beasley Foundation we want to see tougher laws and a targeted education campaign to stop youths from carrying knives. The message to young people is clear - they shouldn't put lives at risk. Sam O'Connor MP Kirsten Jackson - LNP for Gaven

09.01.2022 The LNP will establish an Economic Recovery Agency to kickstart major stimulus projects across the state to create jobs and get Queensland out of recession. Here's the first 100-day plan which will be to coordinate action for:
09.01.2022 Howards Creek Bridge Upgrade (Tamborine Oxenford Road.) It has been a long time coming but works are scheduled to begin mid 2021 and continue until late 2021.
