25.01.2022 Effectively, if I understand this, the legislation would require the issue of koalas to be taken into account in clearing of land. That's saying, we will take into account whether the possible destruction of the homes of a national treasure (of which there a mere handful effectively left in states like NSW) should be considered. Is this for real? Why is there even a controversy? These poor little guys have been here for thousands of years and we just come in and bulldoze dow...n their homes, set many others on fire, let others get torn apart by dogs and then some wonder why we should even consider koalas when someone wants to land clear? The answer is we are not Nazis. We are decent compassionate Australians who believe in our native fauna and national symbols. https://www.abc.net.au//koala-protection-policy-a/12649290

17.01.2022 Pell v The Queen result has been released. The High Court found that the jury, acting rationally on the whole of the evidence, ought to have entertained a doubt as to the applicant's guilt with respect to each of the offences for which he was convicted, and ordered that the convictions be quashed and that verdicts of acquittal be entered in their place. The High Court has reaffirmed a fundamental of criminal law jurisprudence. Now let's hope Jury trials are re-established in the Australian Capital Territory.
