15.01.2022 From side-warrior to tennis serve! Earlier in the day @lukesaville18 and I had been working on standing postures, because of their incredible benefits on the legs, to the muscles that cross 2 joints. Gastrocnemius, hamstrings, long adductors, rectus femoris.... We worked on the relationship between left sitbone and its energetic relationship with the same side heel. When watching the serve from this angle, it is apparent how important this relationship is, if you are going to be organised globally above the foot/ankle and maintain the connection between trunk-pelvis, while rotating. Posture determines recruitment. I would like to thank @mjezkova for her ongoing guidance in the integration of DNS with Iyengar Yoga. #tennis #yoga #pragueschool
15.01.2022 MoneyBall! The vision tells the story! @lukesaville18 is moving great and throwing big. @baysidetennis and I are enjoying creating permutations and combinations for winning plays. 2 weeks to go ... #tennis #movement See more
12.01.2022 Global Body Ideal Task Forget what u know about tennis and observe the trunk and the position of the arms relative to the trunk. The left arm is turning the left rib wall in order to take the right rib wall backwards. In other words, the racquet arm is being stepped backwards via the front arm, which is the support (equivalent to acting as a closed chain)... The left arm/rib wall is communicating with the right leg/pelvis on the diagonal to be the support for racquet head acceleration. When this path begins, the role of the diagonal body is reversed. The right rib wall/arm is ‘thrown’ at the ball, as the support function changes from being on length (eccentric contraction) to step the racquet forward (the right lat dorsi) is lengthening through the acceleration phase). This is the basis for why the current ground strokes have become so sound. The angular momentum is accessed via opening the stance like an MMA fighter throwing a cross. This is called open stance or semi-open stance in tennis, but this is a poor interpretation of the mechanism. The rear hip is free to follow the racquet head with angular momentum, so a huge groundstrole has right/left/right foot weight transfer. This also means that the travel of the racquet head is longer as the rear rib wall travels through 180 degrees, with this weight transfer. Should be an amazing final tonight between @stefanostsitsipas98 and @andreyrublev as both these athletes have uninhibited maximal throws at the ball off both sides in @rolexmontecarlomasters #tennis #globalbody #idealtask See more
12.01.2022 This is a full-blooded swing, how did the racquet arrive here with such precision? Centrifugal force! Meaning that the limb is being thrown from mid-line. Do u understand ground reaction force? Do u understand mid-line body?... Do u understand diagonal torsion to wind and throw? The capacities that are revealed by answering the above questions, allow this backhand to be your experience:) #tennis #globalbody #globalfunction See more
10.01.2022 Contralateral Grabs = Set for Groundstrokes! @troysimmonds_official is one of the most innovative coordination/movement coaches that I know who is pioneering this work. Troy has had us moving with ipsilateral grabs in Skilful Means classes, and today @lukesaville18 tried out this contralateral variation.... Watch Luke in February when he represents Australia in ATP Cup and the following week in AO. #tennis #atp #movement #coordination See more

06.01.2022 Dancers Pose for AFL kicking! @cruz.mcauliffe is dedicated to improving his kicking. This dedication led to the creation of this feedback basis. The band is pulling Cruz back to its origin, so needs to close his trunk over his support. This also allows sitbone to track heel constantly. We lengthen through right hip flexor and kick into right hand, this creates eccentric/isometric contraction.... Ideally the line of right thigh will be in line with trunk. Upon release, arm goes away for extended drop phase, timed with acceleration phase of the kick. Ideally finish in plantar flexion, if balance allows. Kicking is an ipsi (same side body) ability, but it is not talked about or coached from this reality. The rib wall also plays a key role in efficient kicking, it this is limited at all levels of the game because of increase in kyphosis. #afl #kicking #motorpattern #yoga See more
03.01.2022 Modified Trikonasana Here we see @cruz.mcauliffe nicely opening his R leg in ER to be the support for his entire L body. I had a discussion with @mjezkova at last years Yoga/Visceral Seminar in Sydney about the most under-estimated and valuable Yoga asana and we both agreed it was Trikonasana. It’s global effect on areas of the body that remain hidden and invisible is transformational, if done consistently. Good to see Cruz is a fan of @tommitchell6 who is also working hard o...n improving his standing postures!! #yoga #dns #pragueschool #afl #hawthornfc #skilfulmeans See more
03.01.2022 Acceleration Phase of the Forehand Q. From where does the forehand begin it’s acceleration phase? A. @lukesaville18 preparation for ATP Cup and AO is going very well. Our planning has involved all aspects of the preparation informing each other.... DNS, Standing Postures, Sprint drills/Sprint derivatives, On court transfer. Amazing integrated package! #tennis #forehand #dns #yoga #baysidetennis See more
