02.01.2022 Enjoy 1920s fashions at both Markree and Narryna through a special joint ticket. Desire Lines at Narryna closes on 27 April, which is also Markree’s last open house Saturday this Summer. Into the 1920s, the flapper reflected women’s emancipation as a result of having moved in to the workforce during World War One. A spirit of hedonism had erupted once the carnage of World War One was over. Australian and New Zealand women had achieved the right to vote. Flappers cut their hair short in a bob and flattened their contours (bust and hips) for an androgynous look, reflecting the ideal of parity with men. This look spilled into mainstream fashions with the Page Boy look continuing into the 1930s. At Markree look for the feather covered 1920s cloche hat among other items clustered around the dressing table.

02.01.2022 A must for people interested in the Arts & Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the great flowering of women's art practice in Tasmania from the early years of the 20th century!
