Looking forward to developing a fresh vision with Moreland for Moreland. And then creating a new Council Plan for 2021-2025 ...

25.01.2022 Some of the reasons l’m looking forward to the next four years with Moreland Council. There’s a lot to do ... keep an eye out for the Council Vision and Council Plan engagement over the next 6-7 months

24.01.2022 Congratulations to all 3 colleagues now sworn in this evening as Moreland Councillors.

21.01.2022 Thanks to all the supporters, phone callers, placard hosts, donors and more ... Please join us for an outdoors, COVID safe, picnic to celebrate the successful election of 4 Greens to Moreland Council this Friday - https://victoria.greens.org.au/moreland-celebration-201127

21.01.2022 Such good news! Big thanks to all the volunteers and supporters... MEDIA RELEASE - 06/11/20 VICTORIAN GREENS NAB HISTORIC WIN IN LOCAL ELECTION, INCLUDING FIRST EVER GREENS-MAJORITY COUNCIL The Victorian Greens are on track for their most successful local government election ever by securing a record number of councillors, including Victoria’s first ever Greens-majority council in Yarra.... While some results are still yet to come in, the Greens have already secured more than 30 spots on councils across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, with local people who ran strong grassroots campaigns even through the challenges of the pandemic. The 34 local Greens Councillors that have been elected so far will sit on the following councils: Ballarat, Banyule (2), Colac-Otway, Darebin (3), Glen Eira, Golden Plains, Greater Dandenong, Geelong, Shepparton, Hobsons Bay, Manningham, Maribyrnong (2), Melbourne (2), Monash (2), Moreland (4), Port Phillip (2), Stonnington (2), Surf Coast and Yarra (5). The Greens have increased their representation in councils right across Victoria including in Yarra, Stonnington, Maribyrnong, Shepparton, Monash and Surf Coast Shire. The strong election result comes despite a number of challenges to Greens candidates including the inability to doorknock due to COVID-19 restrictions, the shift to single member wards in some councils led by Adem Somyurek as previous local Government Minister, and an increasing number of ALP-branded candidates. Victorian Greens acting leader, Ellen Sandell, said the results so far had made it clear that the Greens’ plan for a sustainable COVID-19 recovery that focused on renewable energy, housing affordability and reviving local shopping strips and local jobs had resonated with Victorians across the state. This green wave follows similar successes for the party this year in both the ACT and Queensland. Quotes attributable to Acting Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell MP: "Our Greens Councillors are local people who will stand up for their local communities. The election result shows that people want to see strong local voices on Council who will help lead us out of the COVID recession with projects like building affordable housing, reviving our local shopping strips and cafes, and creating jobs through climate action. "I'm so pleased to see all these hard-working local Greens Councillors get elected in historic numbers right across the state, and can't wait to see them deliver for their local communities." -- ENDS -- See more

20.01.2022 If only I'd found Madeleine's name on the ballot I'd have voted for a Brunswick beach al-a car-park!

18.01.2022 Help us get a better idea of how you feel about public spaces and how you have been treated in these spaces. Let’s make our City safer and feel safer too.

16.01.2022 Always was, Always will be ... celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their history culture and contributions. Check out the events for the week ahead.

12.01.2022 Reducing a 7 storey proposal to 5 storeys and ensuring Whole Lotta Love is able to keep operating as a going music venue on this part of Lygon St , was unanimously supported by Crs last week. And an application to enable reduced parking- while ensuring long term residents have preferential parking on-street, was also successful too.

08.01.2022 It’s good have this target announced today, but it falls way short of where Victorians need to be. The Victorian Government finally announced it’s climate crisis targets today, just 13 months late. Apparently it had to wait because of a certain virus! It seeks to reduce CO2 emissions by 45-50% by 2030, which is encouraging, But Environment Victoria CEO Jono La Nauze said the targets fell "far short" of what was needed to keep warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. "The science ...is clear. Victoria really needs to be aiming to cut our emissions by around three-quarters by 2030," he said. And Jono would know, so at that rate Victoria’s government is falling short by about half the effort required to keep Victorians safe and planet that will see our animals and plants survive in a warming planet. By increasing the target by half, would get Victoria to 75% reduction. https://www.abc.net.au//victorian-government-tar/100110140

08.01.2022 Keep up on local developments re COVID 19 especially if you know people doing it tough... The latest Community Support Newsletter has heaps of information and updates; including material aid; a survey for older persons; an online course on how to include LGBTIQA+ people and advocating for LGBTIQA+ people with disabilities; Council’s services opening up and More Food For Moreland - a fund raiser for those hit hard by the pandemic. https://confirmsubscription.com/h/t/3417781353114A62

06.01.2022 The allegations of voter fraud in NW Ward are very troubling. Democracy is too important to have people trying to misuse the system. This could be a big interruption for Moreland Council, the candidates and to the citizens of Moreland, especially NW Ward. Who knows what costs might be involved too? The Victoria Police are investigating and the matter will be referred to VCAT after the ballots are declared tomorrow, Thursday 5th, in the afternoon. VCAT will decide on the effect of this alleged fraud on the outcome and for representation in NW Ward. https://www.abc.net.au//moreland-city-council-ele/12844596).

04.01.2022 Very excited to welcome three new Councillors (elect) to Moreland City. All Green. All bright. All ready to work hard for Moreland. From left, James Conlan (Sth), Angelica Panopoulos (NW) me and Adam Pulford (NE). A huge thanks to all the Greens members and supporters for working so hard in this COVID election. And well done to all those candidates that stepped up and ran hard and fair. It’s been great to see democracy breaking out in times like this. Congratulations to all the elected Crs (except the one with a huge dark cloud looming above him)!!

01.01.2022 Getting to zero waste in our City means including everyone. Partnering with EcoActiv means we can create a more circular economy and repair/re-use and recycle much more, while we reduce waste to landfill (which in turn saves residents on gate fee $ costs, which are increasing annually). Check out these options and reduce our eco footprint! https://letsgo.ecoactiv.com.au/moreland
