23.01.2022 Pool fencing. It's one of those things you unfortunately can't avoid. But, the good news is there are a variety of contemporary and subtle fencing options that meet regulation without being an eyesore in the garden like this glass fence on a raised garden bed. Something worth noting? The fence needs to be regulation height on the highest side of the garden which means when there are raised garden beds or retaining walls in place the fence needs to meet code on both sides... (often resulting in a higher fence). 19.01.2022 For this home in Sorrento, we added olive trees in a raised local limestone planter around one side of the pool to provide privacy and shade, and a glass fence on the other to keep to regulation whilst maintaining a sense of connection between indoor and outdoor living. 13.01.2022 Did you know that in some local council areas, a garden design is required as part of the town planning application for a new house, and that the garden needs to be built within a specific timeframe as part of the building approval process? It might seem strict, but this ensures that both the aesthetic of the neighbourhood is maintained, and that surrounding properties aren't adversely affected by loose top soil erosion or the visual bulk of a finished house on a bare block. So, if you are building a new house which triggers town planning it is worth engaging a Landscape Architect to prepare a preliminary garden plan. This can be submitted as part of your overall permit to ensure that the house and garden work together seamlessly and to avoid any hold ups during the council approval process.

09.01.2022 There's a lot more to landscape architecture than choosing plants... but picking the perfect combination of plants is a pretty great job perk When designing a garden [and choosing the plants] we factor in a number of things including the growing conditions the plant requires, the environmental conditions of the backyard, what plants are native to the area, the plant size and rate of growth, and aesthetic properties. Plus, of course, our clients' preferences.
