22.01.2022 We are doing a double header with Pocket String Quartet. Yeh!

22.01.2022 And this is Fabian Hevia, one of Australia's best percussionists playing one of Andy's drums. https://youtu.be/RnWRRrkUmZE

22.01.2022 So one of the things that has delayed the return of Marmalade Circus was this project. Some of you may know that mferg writes lots of children's music. The most recent commission was for the SA Public Primary Schools Music Festival. The brief was to write a song cycle to engage 13 year olds with the Nth Terrace precinct. The song cycle was performed 12 times in the Adelaide Festival Theatre by a 500 voice choir, a small orchestra and a dance troupe. One concert is being featured on Channel 44 this Saturday Dec 8 at 8pm. Remember, it is kids with a kids orchestra, so it isn't perfect but you get the vibe.

21.01.2022 Stealing from the Marmalade Circus repertoire! Or recycling.... Check out Marmalade Five at the Stirling Fringe Feb 23 and March 3. Yeah!

21.01.2022 Hi people, many of you would have heard that Bruce Hancock, former head of Jazz at Adelaide Uni for 25 years sadly passed away recently. A bunch of us are holding a tribute concert for him this Monday. Join us as we remember the good things Bruce gave to the jazz community.

Marmalade Five will be doing a cameo performance at tomorrow night's (July 20) Marmalade Circus gig for the Umbrella Winter City Sounds in the Queen Street Festival, 7:30pm St Barnabas church in Croydon. Not far til we are sold out so get your tix soon! mferg forgot to play his guiro and he is disappointed, but he will play it on saturday night.

20.01.2022 'Mrs Harkess' Danzon' was inspired by mferg's Great Grandmother who was a wonderful pianist/accompanist/event co-ordinator/ all-round full-on character. I wrote it especially for our International Jazz Day gig which is in 7 days! It features the fantastic Bonnie Aue and Josh Baldwin. Get your ticket from Bassget together with a friend so you can split the booking fee... https://www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au//international-/

20.01.2022 Newsflash. Marmalade Circus are back. One show only in the Winterfest July 20. Sadly they got the wrong picture, but it won't be the wrong band! https://umbrellaadelaide.com.au//queen-street-jazz-festiv/

17.01.2022 Hey people, a large bunch of people are performing a tunes originally recorded in 1959 this Saturday night, Oct 12 at 6:30pm in Elder Hall. As you can see from these album covers a great number of the most influential jazz records of all time were made in 1959. The Elder Con's Studio Orchestra (Big Band and Orchestra together) are also performing a substantial new work mferg has written especially for them. It features Jazz saxophone teacher (and Marmalade alumni) Dustan Cox on multiple saxophones and is conducted by Dr Luke Dollman. Get on down

16.01.2022 We have been unsure whether to release this album 'Songs from an Imperfect World' right now, but the over-arching themes seem relevant. We would like to acknowledge that the art-form jazz, our musical foundation, was predominantly created by people whose descendants can't safely walk their own streets and who can be killed in broad daylight by people whose job is to serve and protect. We don't really know how to help, but we are reading up. We also acknowledge that these iss...ues are just as relevant here in Australiawe all need to do more to educate ourselves and to support our first nations brothers and sisters. I (mferg) am in awe of the musicians Josh Baldwin and Lyndon Gray who played on this album. I am so thankful to our producer Adam Page for, well, just being Adam Page the beautiful person he is. I am also thankful for the amazing engineering skills of JB and Jarrad. This is an imperfect world but I believe we can all do a lot to make it less imperfect through our thoughts and actions. https://youtu.be/Z3dRMUOgV7I

14.01.2022 Really chuffed to be part of this great project! Please come along, it is going to be great. We had our first rehearsal on mondayAnita Wardell was really wailing, Bonnie Aue was laying it down hard and reading charts like a champion and birthday boy Josh Baldwin was tackling new rhythms with his characteristic fluency, flair and freedom. Yeh!

05.01.2022 https://youtu.be/B60E4JXm1_8 Here is a bit of mferg's tune 'King's Cross Tango' from one of our 2011Adelaide Fringe gigs. On July 20 we are playing a new version of this tune drawing on the arrangement mferg created for his concert with the ASO in 2018. It is a bit faster and bit more sinister....
