17.01.2022 "In the experience I've had, you're not going to punish kids into doing the right thing," Former royal commissioner into youth justice slams Queensland's 'knee-jerk' measures as police welcome new powers. https://www.abc.net.au//qld-youth-crime-crackdown/13137768

17.01.2022 So many good people in the Valley Tommy’s ongoing distinguished career as an artist and Dylan came to the nations attention on Q and A while he was still a student at FVDHS. Congratulations to you both

16.01.2022 To treat all of Western Australia’s children fairly, we need to make sure that every community in the country has what kids need to thrive and be healthy, like ...secure housing, high-quality and affordable child care, chances for children to develop relationships with supportive adults and safe places to play and learn. We are calling on political parties to ensure that all West Australian children are given the support and opportunities required to reach their full potential.

15.01.2022 This year’s NAIDOC teams, combined forces, with Fitzroy Valley Distric High School’s early years’ classes and the Baya Gawiy team, to pull off an amazing NAIDOC... event at our centre. We wanted to move away from stereotypical activities, toward meaningful cultural experiences, that the children are familiar with. We kicked off with tunes from our resident songbird, Bullen Rogers, while the children enjoyed eating fresh fruit bowls. We broke off into smaller groups to participate in art experiences, such as, stencilling animals on to painted landscapes. Posca pens were a favourite in designing patterns and animals on dilly bags to take home. Naomi Richie from FVDHS facilitated painting seasonal images on Perspex, which Mangkaja Arts kindly donated for the event Mary Heart, Maryanne Coe and Vicki Hynam cooked up a storm, featuring kangaroo and beef stews, served with Mary and Patricia’s famous dampers. Patrica Cox was impressive in her open fire damper- making workshop, under the shade of a Joolwooljidi (Bauhinia tree in Goongiyandi). Bullen cooked Wanyjirri (Walmajarri for Kangaroo) in our fire pit. Many thanks to Dee Carter and all the teachers from the FVDHS who helped make our day a success and for the t-shirts and cupcakes. Natalie Davey for being the photography and capturing the event for us all to relive. We want to acknowledge our visiting helpers: Stacey and Nicola, from Boab Health, who worked on making clay animals and felt and sticks to make small pretend fires, with our young children The Yiramalay School girls were chipping in where needed and we hope to see them back here regularly. Magabala Books very generously donated 100 books for NAIDOC. The children each selected one to put in their individual dilly bags.

10.01.2022 Australia Post is now encouraging people to include the indigenous place names in the addresses when sending mail! We would love anyone sending parcels for our 1000 Dresses for Grandmothers donation drive to include the country Marninwarntikura sits on, Bunuba Country (see below example). It's also a great opportunity to learn what Indigenous country you live on and include it in your return address. Thanks to Gomeroi woman, Rachael McPhail, for lobbying Australia Post to ta...ke this on! https://www.abc.net.au//australia-post-agrees-to-/12872484
