21.01.2022 Bowls Victoria is extremely disappointed to advise that the 2020 Victorian Open has been cancelled. The event was due to take place in Shepparton from Friday No...vember 20th through to Friday November 27th 2020. This was a very difficult decision for Bowls Victoria to make, in conjunction with Greater Shepparton City Council, as we know so many bowlers look forward to this event each year. But... we promise to be back . To read all the recent State event updates, including Metro Pennant, click here: https://bit.ly/BVEventUpdate (revised 14/08)

19.01.2022 A message to Clubs from the BBD Board. The Board met on Monday 6th July. Here are some of the issues that were dealt with Our scheduled meeting with Campas...pe Division, BV and all other interested Divisions, was moved from the 8th August to the 22nd August. This was due to the Coronavirus issue. Whether the next scheduled meeting will take place, is most certainly not assured at the present time. The Board is unanimous in our questioning of the BV Region Boundary Review with the following:- 1. We take issue with the Non Negotiable aspect that they propose, with the needs of our Division Clubs being sidelined. 2. We are concerned about the composition of the new Region Board structure and how it will work effectively over such a large and disparate number of Clubs and bowlers. 3. We are concerned at the way the BBD monies will be distributed, as all three Divisions will have to put into the new Region pot! Will this be equitable? 4. We are endeavouring as a Division to eventually have an undercover bowling facility in our city. We are now committed to working with the Greater City of Bendigo in order to achieve this. Thus the Bendigo name needs to be retained. 5. We also agreed that the reason for Divisions is for easier management. A large Region would make this task difficult due to the tyranny of distance. 6. We believe that BV need to re assess the current Region boundaries before looking at dissolving Divisions. The Board has already received letters of support from some Clubs. Thank you for this. It has been so difficult for clubs to meet and have members advised of the situation. Your efforts are much appreciated. All members of the Board have spent much time and energy on your behalf to make sure that the needs of all our members are being addressed with this issue. The BBD Board again looked at the Midweek Pennant issue. As was explained previously, the fact that we are unable to meet at Delegate meetings due to the Covoid 19 situation, has necessitated the BBD Board to exercise its powers at law. The Futures Committee recommendations, allowing men to play third therefore will stand for this season. (We may well look at changes into the next season with Open Pennant and Ladies Only Midweek running concurrently). It is optional as to whether men are selected to play in this position. Club selection must be fair and Club Selectors must organize their teams in ascending order of ability. It is also to be noted that the behaviour of all participants must be in line with the Laws of Bowls. Coaching on the green is not permitted. Coaching can only be undertaken on the bank and the Umpire and Side Captain must be notified before the start that coaching will be conducted. Hopefully we will be able to conduct a modified AGM on the 5th August at North Bendigo. Nomination forms have been distributed. To those bowlers who feel aggrieved in any way at the decisions made, can put up their hand and contribute positively to the running of the Division. It is very difficult to keep everyone happy at one time and change of any sort is difficult for some. Marian Craze (Chairman), Arthur Harrison (Deputy Chairman), Geoff Howes (Secretary), Stephen Piercy (Treasurer, Ann Howe, Mike Greenwood, Tony Doolan (Directors)

19.01.2022 Please find attached a flyer and nomination for committee position for the upcoming AGM. Nomination will close at 5:00 pm on 6 August. Nominations can be emailed to me or placed in the red folder that Tim has placed in the outside noticeboard. The proposed date for the AGM is Thursday 20 August but this will be dependent on any State Government changes to the Covid-19 restrictions. Barry

19.01.2022 All members please note the directive from BBD re 10 min breaks during games. Hi All When the BBD decided this year due to COVID to reduce the number of ends to 21, There was to be no afternoon tea break... or lunch break. The BBD advises for this season clubs may have a 10 minute break for a drink or toilet break. We have had complaints advising some Clubs are abusing the break taking longer than the 10 minutes and using it for an afternoon tea break. This break is to be decided by the side managers prior to the game, If both are not agreeable then play continues. The BBD advise if both are agreeable this break to be taken after the 12th end. Geoff Howes Secretary BBD

Well done to all the ladies who participated during the competition. Peter Collier (Sec Marong Bowls)

13.01.2022 - : Bowls Victoria has made the tough decision to , next week ...and next months State Championships. We understand some will be disappointed and some will be relieved by this decision. Earlier in June, we surveyed participating clubs and as a result the decision was made to proceed with Divisional matches, however, given the rapidly changing situation, circumstances have now changed. We have also received concerns from Clubs, Members and their families regarding playing in hotspot areas and players from hotspot areas visiting other clubs. With increased cases of COVID-19 in hotspot areas across the last 48 hours, Bowls Victoria must consider player welfare and our duty of care for members playing in BV events. : bit.ly/2Z7c0o2 Clubs are still open, with Social Bowls and Practice/Roll Ups able to take place under our current : bit.ly/2YwuKy3

12.01.2022 Dont miss out on our Country Week SALE!! It will be running until Friday but dont leave it too late we are open from 8am til late every day! All the best to all of the bowlers participating in this years massive Country Week tournament.

11.01.2022 Hi All The Pennant Competitions Committee have revised the program for the coming season due to the latest release from Bowls Victoria. Both Midweek and Weekend Pennant starting dates have been put back a week due to the cancellation of the Victorian Open.... With the social distancing rule still being in place until the end of the year and the restrictions with the number of players allowed on a green, it has been decided to hold the all State Singles and Pairs events before the Triples and Fours. The revised Program and Pennant Draws will be on the BBD website. Keep Safe Geoff Howes

10.01.2022 Results Men's Club Championship One game still to be bowled in the first round

10.01.2022 State singles final being live streamed this morning.

10.01.2022 Dear Member Clubs, We first must say that we are very aware of the impact of Covid-19 on our community and feel a great deal of empathy towards individuals and ...clubs. These are tough times. Our thoughts are with anyone who is unwell, and we wish them a speedy recovery. The damage caused by Covid-19 worldwide is nothing short of horrific. In a financial sense, we hope all clubs and members dont experience hardship, but thats not the reality and we too have friends/family who have been stood down from work and clubs impacted. We know this will be felt by many. As you are aware, the BV Board set the 2020-21 affiliation fee at no increase on last year, with extended payment terms and an expanded hardship program before the 2nd wave of COVID-19. What we had hoped, was that we would be back playing by now. Unfortunately, thats not the case and we have seen more damaging lockdowns with Stage 4 in Metropolitan Melbourne and Stage 3 in Regional Victoria. We appreciate how hard this situation is on our member clubs and are looking to our State Government for financial assistance. Our position after our Board meeting today is to see what the State Government announcement will be once the current Government-enforced lockdown is reviewed in mid-September. We are hopeful that by that time we will have a clearer picture on the impact to the 2020-21 season. The Boards intention is to reduce affiliation fees for this year in line with the impact to the season and the measures that some other states have undertaken. Naturally the detail is fluid given the current situation which we are watching closely. We have also resolved today to waive any payment for Pennant Permits this coming season as we know many bowlers will be having difficulties travelling from clubs to their homes due to border closures/restrictions. Please be patient with us, we want to make sure we are making the right decision and not constantly making subsequent decisions as the situation changes. Keep well and keep safe. President (on behalf of the BV Board)

09.01.2022 Hi All Please find attached an amended Weekend Pennant draw for Marong sent by Geoff Howes. Amendments were required to accommodate Clubs with multiple teams, with the COVID restrictions weekend pennant may need to be played in morning and afternoons. ... This will be decided by the Pennant Competitions Committee closer to the starting date and what restrictions are being applied.

08.01.2022 It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas and before we know it we will be welcoming in 2021. With the further easing of restrictions last week we are now near...ly back to normal trading, with our outdoor area now able to be used to capacity. Live music is back on Sundays and we will re-open for Monday and Tuesday lunches from the start of school holidays. At the start of COVID we offered a free delivery service as a way of helping keep our community safe and have continued this throughout the year and while we have loved being able to provide this service to you all it will cease from the 1st December. We will still be doing takeaways throughout the week so you can have the night off when you really cant be bothered cooking. Takeaway orders can be placed from 3pm and picked up from 5.30pm. We would like to again thank you all for your continued support. See more

08.01.2022 BBD Season 2020/21 Questions regarding the bowling season for 2020/21. Will we play? When will the season commence? Due to the unprecedented times we are living in at the moment these questions cannot be answered.... A Program has been completed, along with the pennant draws based around similar dates and Events from last years program. Everyone needs to understand that depending on when and/or if we can play bowls, the program may need to be altered. Social distancing may need to be adhered to throughout the season. This will mean starting times for some pennant games will need to be altered. There may be no afternoon tea/lunch breaks. Games may need to be shortened (21 ends). We may only play half a season if we cannot commence until after Christmas. At the moment we have to be patient and hope this State gets through this awful pandemic and we do get to play bowls at some stage during 2020/21. Further updates will be posted as more information is known. REMEMBER THAT IT IS ONLY A GAME OF BOWLS AND OUR LIVES DO NOT DEPEND ON IT. 07.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE: We’re back! The circuit breaker seems to have done the trick for now, so all scheduled bowls can re-commence from tomorrow (Thursday 18th). Th...at means for those in Metro Melbourne, Thursday pennant is back on tomorrow, and weekend pennant is back for all of Victoria on Saturday. Masks are not required for bowls so long as 1.5m physical distancing is maintained. However, The Premier has specified masks are required indoors unless eating/drinking, so please ensure you carry one with you at all time. All other rules around density quotas, hospitality guidelines, etc, revert back to what they were 5 days ago. Clubs must maintain their COVID-safe plans, ensure sanitiser is readily available both indoors and outdoors, and remember to refrain from shaking hands/hi-fives, etc. Stay safe. Look after your mates.

07.01.2022 Good luck to midweek pennant in the first week of finals.

Excerpt from State Government Summary of Restrictions Move to Stage 3: Outdoor sport: only allowed to exercise, or activities such as fishing, golf, boating, tennis, surfing with one other person or household members, provided 1.5 metre distance can be maintained. Outdoor sporting facilities: closed, except for facilities where public gathering and physical distancing limits can be adhered to and there is no use of shared equipment or communal facilities (e.g. tennis courts, golf courses). 04.01.2022 A huge congratulations to John Rathbone who will bowl his 500th pennant game for Marong Bowls Club this weekend.

04.01.2022 We have received many enquiries around the use of masks when bowling. The advice from Sport & Recreation Victoria and Vicsport supports the current State Govern...ment guidelines as follows: , (or the Shires of Colac Otway, Golden Plains, Moorabool, Surf Coast and the Borough of Queenscliffe): When leaving home for one of the four reasons, people 12 years and older must wear a face covering, unless an exemption applies. If you are doing strenuous physical exercise you do not need to wear a face covering but you must carry one with you. Strenuous exercise includes activities like jogging, running or cycling but not walking. Bowling considered to be 'strenuous physical exercise' and as such a face covering . 03.01.2022 Hi All As you are all aware by now, Bowls Victoria has initiated a Region Boundary Review. Geoff Howes and Marian Craze were invited to a meeting with BV, toget...her with Barry Brown and Joy MacArthur from Bendigo Campaspe Region and Stephen Piercy BVRR. We were informed that Divisions were to be eliminated and that there would be 16 Regions across Victoria. We were not to divulge any information about this until all BV meetings had been held. This was to be the end of March. We were to hold a meeting this week on the 6th April with Campaspe to decide our new name and to get the ball rolling. This decision by BV is non negotiable and a timeline of 2021 was aimed for but would be 2020 if possible. Since that meeting it has come to light that we are to incorporate seven clubs from Goldfields Division. That makes 39 Clubs in this new Region. The BBD Board made the decision to write to BV asking them to holt proceedings until meetings could be held with our clubs, to discuss the issue fully and look at the implications involved. In such unprecedented circumstances that we are all experiencing at present we were totally opposed to this initiation progressing until we were able to open Clubs again. Sadly we are being forced to embrace this without any input from Clubs or our membership. 10 years ago during Unification changes to boundaries Bowls Victoria had meetings with all Victorian Clubs unfortunatelyy this is not happening on this occasion. This Board is determined that we need time to absorb the implications and ramifications of running this larger Region and how this will affect Clubs and all Division members with all future competitions and events. Those Clubs and members worried about our current Pennant Competition, please note we can still have playing areas therefore our current Pennant Competition does not have to change. The Board wishes all to take care, stay safe and hopefully to be ready to go when we are able to get on the green once again. Chairman Marian Craze. Deputy Chairman Arthur Harrison, Secretary Geoff Howes, Treasurer Stephen Piercy and Directors Mike Greenwood, Ann Howe, Coral Maxted and Tony Doolan.
