25.01.2022 Monday Flood Memories Do you remember the 2016 floods? We sure do. Our members were kept busy for many weeks with the water over our small patch of Central Victoria. Crews were out helping to protect property, keeping an eye on the roads and rescuing a number of people that got stranded. Do you have any photos or memories you'd like to share from your flooding experiences in Marong? We'd love to see them!

24.01.2022 We need your help! One of the most important aspects of our work is freeing patients after they have been unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident - to do this, we need lots of practice to maintain our skills! Marong SES is currently looking for cars, trucks or buses in any condition for road accident training.... If you or someone you know is getting rid of a vehicle in the future, please consider getting in touch with us - you might just help save a life as a result!

23.01.2022 We have teachers working alongside electricians, retirees and university students. The diversity of our members is the key to our success, will you join us? #marong #ses #joinus #recruitingnow

23.01.2022 Tonight our thoughts are with the families, friends & colleagues of the 4 Victoria Police officers who lost their lives in a tragic collision. Our thoughts are also extended to the emergency service personnel, witnesses & others involved who will carry this incident with them forever. Please be careful on the road - its hard enough when 1 person doesnt make it home from work, let alone 4.... Rest In Peace.

23.01.2022 Find your car’s float point http://15tofloat.com.au/ It can take as little as 15cm of water to float a car. That’s the height of an average pen.... Our message is simple: Never drive through floodwater. #WeWorkAsOne #FloodsAndStorms #15toFloat

22.01.2022 The numbers are in, rounding out the decade 2019 became our Units second busiest year on record, falling just short of the current record 2011. Our requests for assistance grew by 70% on 2018, reaching 211 for the year. Thank you to the members for giving up their valuable time and their their families, friends and employers allowing them to make this all possible.

21.01.2022 If you’re out & about in Maiden Gully tonight you might see our volunteers around. There is no cause for concern - our team will be conducting a training exercise where they will be completing a vehicle and foot search for our friend who appears to have become lost again (gosh he has some bad luck!). Once they find him, they will need to perform some casualty handling manoeuvres to carefully relocate him to our waiting ambulance. Following successful completion of this task, our new members will be signed off on their Crew Member Level 1 Qualification!

21.01.2022 Monday Flood Memories Remember when the Calder Highway was under water in 2016? It sure caused a few problems for motorists having to find an alternate route due to water. Do you have any photos or memories you'd like to share from your flooding experiences in Marong and surrounds? We'd love to see them!

16.01.2022 Have you seen Bruce? Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing Neilborough man Bruce Evans. The 79-year-old was last seen at his home address on Reillys Road about 7pm on 21 July.... Anyone with information about Bruce is urged to contact Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300. Our volunteers are currently assisting Victoria Police members with the search efforts along with our colleagues from SES Bendigo Unit, SES Rochester Unit, Ses dunolly unit, SES Castlemaine Unit and SES North West Region Support Unit.

14.01.2022 As per the statement from the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), there was some confusion with donations and deliveries at the Flemington h...ousing estate last night. We understand this caused inconvenience and frustration and thank the residents for their cooperation and patience. VICSES had around 30 volunteers out supporting DHHS and Victoria Police with logistics around food distribution. We fully support and thank our volunteers for their response. We will continue to support our agency partners as required in a complex situation and sympathise with the community affected.

14.01.2022 Each year on 29 September, we pause to remember fallen police employees who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The service will remember and honour the lives the 23 Victoria Police officers, Protective Services Officers, Police Custody Officers, Victorian Public Service staff and Police Chaplains who died between 29 September 2019 and 29 September 2020.

13.01.2022 Another rescue successfully completed by VICSES Volunteers. Thanks to the team from SES Bendigo Unit for backing us up today, it’s always a pleasure working with our neighbours.

11.01.2022 #STANDTO Australia Today, we reflect a little differently than normal, we remember all who have gone before and given up so much to protect our way of life. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; ... Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them ABC Central Victoria

11.01.2022 Due to the nature of COVID-19, in recent times we’d taken a break from face-to-face skills maintenance and training, to focus on only responding to emergencies. From this week, you might see us back out training in small groups to ensure we have the essential skills and capability required to respond. Emergency services are permitted to undertake this training, as endorsed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer.... Our crews are following all the COVIDSafe principles, wearing masks and working hard to ensure we are there for our community. We are also now in a position to recommence recruitment. If you have ever thought about joining SES, or would like to know more about what we do and how you can be involved, please send us an inbox & one of our team will be in contact.

10.01.2022 Saddening to see a second life lost this morning on Central Victorian roads. Please stay safe out there.

08.01.2022 Another day, another adventure in orange. Last night we were called out to assist the CFA with some aquatic transportation across Lake Tom Thumb. As part of the operation we were also tasked with relocating 6 members of the public from the island to the shore.

06.01.2022 It doesnt take much to lure us out when the Mother Nature chucks a wobbly. Our volunteers are definitely quite the catch, the team spent a number of hours out ...dealing with the mess left behind after the storms passed over central Victoria this evening. Dont go fishing for trouble tonight on the roads, there is still a bit of wind about which could lead to some unexpected snags in your path.

06.01.2022 Theres quite a bit of dust in the air tonight, take care on the roads!

06.01.2022 You might see us out and about tonight for an exercise, no need to be alarmed. You might see some flashing lights in Marong tonight while we undergo our scheduled Road Rescue Capability Assessment.

06.01.2022 The Victorian government has formal arrangements with a number of media outlets to broadcast emergency warnings and information to the community. Do you know the frequency of your local emergency broadcaster? You can find a list of authorised emergency broadcasters here: https://www.emv.vic.gov.au//official-emergency-broadcaster

04.01.2022 No doubt if you’ve ventured outside today you’ve noticed it’s a bit wetter than normal for January. Heavy rain has been forecast across the region and our crews have been out working through a large number of requests for assistance. Our team are working hard prioritising jobs as they come through, which may mean we might not get to you straight away, but are working through things. thank you for your patience. There is quite a bit of standing water on roads around the area,... turn your headlights on and be seen, drive to the conditions and never drive into flood water. If you need assistance please call 132 500 unless life threatening, then call 000. Stay safe, stay dry (if you can )

04.01.2022 Very disappointing news out of the Bendigo Unit this morning, if you know anything please reach out to the Bendigo team.

04.01.2022 Volunteering with SES can indeed be dangerous at times, we take great care to reduce whatever risk we can whilst out on the road. Some risk however we cannot mitigate by ourselves. Thankfully, steps have been taken in recent years to help in this area. One such risk is the potential to be struck by passing car while responding to emergencies on busy roadways. Today responding to such an incident, members from Marong SES were unnecessarily put in harms way by members of the p...ublic not slowing down to 40km/h when passing our stationary emergency vehicles. Regardless of whether you consider this to be important or not, the fact is that its the law. Its there to keep our members safe, it helps to ensure we can return to our families at the end of the day. To say we are disappointed in the actions of a few drivers is a bit understated. We understand you may have a busy day, or be running late, or that it may be an inconvenience to you, but this is our safety. The members working are all important to someone. Its someones mum, dad, brother, sister, son, daughter, aunt, uncle. Please keep that in mind next time you approach the flashing red and blues. Do the right thing, slow to 40, help keep us safe while we do our job.

03.01.2022 A small snap shot of 2020 through the eyes of VICSES

03.01.2022 At SES we like to celebrate that we have a diverse range of members. We encourage and support each other, recognise that we all have value & can actively contribute to making our community a safer place. When you volunteer at SES you dont have to tell us if you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but you will continue to be accepted and welcomed if you do. To all those participating in the Midsummer Carnival & Pride March - have an amazing time & celebrate what makes you You.

03.01.2022 Stay safe, stay out of floodwater. Please be mindful of the conditions if you have to be out in this weather and drive accordingly. There have already been a number of calls to rescue people trapped in vehicles that have become stuck in floodwater tonight.

03.01.2022 In follow up to our post yesterday... We are happy to say our team of volunteers successfully completed all tasks, and will be signed off on the next stage of their training development. We would like to give a huge thanks to both Jenny's ELC Maiden Gully & Maiden Gully Primary School for generously granting us permission to access the grounds for both premises after hours as part of our training

02.01.2022 There's nothing quite like a hot cuppa and a sausage roll to keep your spirits high on a wet and stormy day like today. The crew at Marong SES would like to send a massive THANK YOU to the team at Epsom Bunnings Warehouse Australia for our yummy afternoon tea.

02.01.2022 Our volunteers sure do get around, a crew from right here in Central Victoria is currently assisting the Corryong Unit with some very well earned rest time covering Road Crash Rescue in the local area. Well done team!

02.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads & Father figures in our community, & a special Happy Fathers Day to the Dads, Step-Dads, Grandads, Pops & Pas of the SES. Today is not a typical Fathers Day but we hope you can find a way to connect with those you love most, even if you can see each other in person!

02.01.2022 Weve had an overwhelming response from the community wanting to assist with the current emergencies across Victoria. All VICSES volunteers go through a select...ion and screening process, and undertake nationally endorsed and competency based training to ensure they are skilled and capable to perform the various roles. If youd like to become a volunteer, we encourage you to register your interest via our website today: www.ses.vic.gov.au/volunteer
