FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. STATUS: Going. Effective strategies are in operation or planned for the entire perimeter. CURRENT SITUATION: A fire is burning in the Produce Road area with heavy smoke in the area. Due to firefighting operations on the Arnhem Highway, the Arnhem Highway will be closed until further notice. Police will be in attendance to direct traffic. RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. Active fire may occur close to the roadside. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside. 17.01.2022 Fire weather warning During a Fire Ban no fire may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended Today is the 13th Fire Ban period for the season.... The fire danger period is starting to build up this week and is expected to peak this Thursday before slowly easing. This week's forecast fire weather and expected bans will be over large areas across the Top End from Katherine to Darwin including Victoria River District and coastal areas. An Incident Management Team (IMT) has been active since Sunday 23 August and is operating at the Bushfires NT headquarters on Townend road, Acacia. 16.01.2022 WARNING OF RISING WATERS ON THE ARNHEM HIGHWAY AT THE ADELAIDE RIVER FLOODPLAIN Recent and future predicted rainfall coinciding with forecast high tides may res...ult in rising water levels in the Adelaide River catchments which impact 7km of the Arnhem Highway across the Adelaide River floodplain. This is an existing condition and the reason for the upgrades currently under construction. Water over the road has been predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology at the floodplain coinciding with high tides at the Adelaide River bridge gauging station over the next few days. The Darwin and Adelaide Rive...r forecast area is of particular concern due to high fuel loads. Several other parts of the Top End have been issued severe fire danger ratings. 15.01.2022 FIRE CONDITIONS: The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed fire conditions at Batchelor yesterday reached the catastrophic rating - the first time since 2012. Hot, dry and windy conditions are still presenting fire dangers, despite the risk easing over the weekend.

It’s hot, dry and wind...y making fires extremely unpredictable and challenging to control. Under these conditions it is paramount you remain alert and keep up to date on the latest bushfire information. An inter-agency Emergency Operations Centre has been established at Bushfires NT Headquarters in Acacia Hills. Bushfires NT staff and volunteers are working together with the Department Environment & Natural Resources, Parks & Wildlife, the Dept Infrastructure, Planning & Logistics, Defence and NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services including the Territory Response Group who are currently conducting 128 property impact assessments.
