22.01.2022 MATT GABY WINS THE RIP CURL WEST COAST CLASSIC!!!!!!! Matt Gaby has broken the 39 year drought since a north west surfer has won the prestigious third longest ...running surf contest in Australia. Barry Paine was the last to do so in 1980. Matt surfed the final with furious pace and superb rail to rail surfing to claim the title over Jy Johannesen in second place, Leon Bateman in third and Gerome Bramich in 4th. Marrawah’s Sarah Prior took honours in the open women’s division with some powerful surfing in tricky conditions at onshore lighthouse, Claire McManus finished runner up Luca Brodribb in third and Penguin’s Sophie Adams in fourth.
