17.01.2022 GREENS POOL RE-OPENS TUESDAY Just in time for summer! One of the south coast's most popular tourist spots, Greens Pool near Denmark, will re-open to the pu...blic next week, after months of closure. The popular beach has been closed since February for $4.5 million dollar upgrade. They include road upgrades, new parking bays and toilet facilities at the tourism hotspot. It's understood the nearby Lights Beach will close the same week for upgrades, with plans for it to re-open by Christmas.

14.01.2022 TEMPORARY STIRLING FIRE TRUCK APPROVED Firefighters near the Stirling Range National Park will have access to a fire truck in the event of a bushfire this sum...mer. A four-wheel-drive truck capable of carrying two tonnes of water recently arrived in Amelup, fewer than 10 kilometres from the park's northern boundary, where it will be stationed for the season. The Stirling Range was scorched in December and January, as a fire that started on Christmas burnt for weeks before it was extinguished. Calls were raised shortly after for a truck to be stationed permanently near the Range for future fires. Department of Fire and Emergency Services Great Southern superintendent Wayne Green says the temporary truck will give crews a better chance of tackling spot fires before they grow out of control this summer. "Because of the location of the Amelup brigade, it's only minutes from the Stirlings now - whereas prior to that the vehicles would have had to come from Gnowangerup itself," he said. "I think that key word is a 'stop-gap'. We will still continue to [assist] the Shire of Gnowangerup in submitting applications for [permanent] vehicles ... that can support the Stirlings."

12.01.2022 New, Limited Edition Cheddar Our Jersey Bell cheddar is taking a little holiday for the next few weeks, but in its place we have this gorgeous cheddar - a... Caerphilly. The Caerphilly is a Welsh cheese often called a White Cheddar. The cheese was originally made for the miners as its high salt content would replenish their bodies which had been working hard, and sweating substantially, from a days labour in the mines. Our Caerphilly was made in early spring and has developed a golden yellow colour as a result of the early spring grasses. We have held back on the salt a fraction which has resulted in a nutty, buttery and slightly sweet taste. Available at the Albany Farmers Market this Saturday, 8am-12pm. Customers with a strong Welsh accent (or a good attempt at one) get priority....!
