The Inner West tree canopy needs to increase from 20 to 40%. The latest version of the DCP has reduced to 3m automatic removal rule to 2m with a permit. That permit would still allow most trees in that zone to be pruned or removed without Council consent.

14.01.2022 Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Its a day that honours the memory of transgender people whose lives were taken in acts of anti-transgender violence. The international register of transgender homicides records over 3000 deaths in the last decade, however, its known that theres often serious under-reporting when it comes to trans homicides, so this number is likely even higher.[1] Trans people around the world continue to face violence, discrimination and oppressio...n daily. A report from La Trobe University in 2014, found that 43% of trans and gender diverse people dont feel safe on the street, and 32% dont feel safe on public transport.[2] This ongoing discrimination is unacceptable. Trans rights are human rights. As a party, we need to strive for a world where trans people not just survive but thrive. This means that we must all take steps to challenge transphobia whenever we see it. This can mean supporting gender-inclusive spaces, respecting peoples pronouns, upholding peoples right to their self-identified sex and gender as an integral part of their lived experience, and challenging discriminatory behaviour when we see it. We need to continue pushing for changes that will ensure trans people are safe and welcome in all spaces in the community. As an immediate act of solidarity, we would encourage all members in the Sydney region to attend an action such as the vigil at the Hub in Newtown, being hosted by Trans Action Warrang. This starts at 6pm this evening. For those outside the Sydney region, there may be other grassroots actions that have been organised and wed encourage you to attend any regional events available. If youre looking for more resources on how to show your solidarity with the trans community, Twenty10 gay and lesbian counselling service of NSW have some excellent resources available. Marrickville Greens: * Recognises that the Inner West has one of the largest LGBTIQA+ communities in the Australia. We offer this community our love and support. ... * Reaffirms our commitment to standing up for LGBTIQA+ community and strive towards the creation of safer spaces through inclusive practices. * Reaffirms our support for the Greens NSW Sex, Sexuality and Gender Identity policy. * Notes that recently the largest ever survey on mental health of trans youth (14 - 25), the Trans Pathway Survey, was conducted by the Telephone Kids Institute. This survey found that the prevalence of attempted suicide by trans youth was almost one in two, and that one in five trans youth have experienced issues with housing or homelessness. * Congratulates trans activists for their ongoing campaign efforts against discrimination and oppression, including the retention of the Safe Schools program, inclusion of self declaration in the UKs Gender Recognition Act 2014, and to have gender removed from official documents. * Commits to having a discussion on trans inclusive practices and aims for a swift implementation of such practices. * Recognises peoples right to identify their sex, gender or orientation. * Notes that neither sex or gender is binary.
