24.01.2022 Glass pipework required to be used in a laboratory due to the corrosive chemicals that pass through it. This method was phased out late in the 20th century. The introduction of High-Density Polyethylene for tradewaste became more effective and a superior product. Martech was called out due to a crack in the glass pipe behind the cupboard causing water to run over the floor.... It was a tight space to work in with limited clearances, a finger width each side of the pipe. Skilfully we manage to repair without having to cut holes in walls and cupboards. #martechplumbing

22.01.2022 Roof repairs on a combustion fire, triple skinned, metal chimeny. Getting prepared for winter Client previously had issues with roof leaks and band aid fixes. Also the termination height of the metal chimney is too low causing smoke issues with the balconies.... Stage 1 - Investigate roof leak issues with the penetration through the corrugated roof sheets. Rectify with the appropriate flashing and sealant. Stage 2 - Measure up all components of the triple skinned chimeny including cowl to be ordered. Stage 3 - Raise each skin of the chimeny with an extra length to get the termination height correct. #martechplumbing

21.01.2022 Remember that just because the label says flushable, it doesn't normally mean you should. It's a marketing loop hole. Don't cause unnecessary blockages, it could become very costly $$. Toilet paper is readily available again, only flush the three P's as the video suggests.

16.01.2022 Flooding in Richmond Last year Martech was engaged by a client to install a pump on the river bank in Richmond Lowlands. He wanted to use the water to irrigate his lawn and a large sized domestic vege garden. Along with pipe sizing and pump sizing, one of the critical points of the design was to create a system where the pump could easily be disconnected and pulled from the river bank, WHEN not if, it floods.... One year since it was installed it got its first call to action. Just like the multiple test runs on commissioning, it worked a treat. The pump was pulled up the hill via stainless steel cables attached to his tractor and then lowered back down the guide rail once the waters had receded.

10.01.2022 Mental health awareness Mental illness is not always visible and not always spoken about. Tradies are 70 per cent more likely to commit suicide than their behind-the-desk counterparts.... Whether it is work stress, home life stress, social issues or financial issues, finding the courage to speak up is not easy. Since June we have been organising a new style to our regular uniforms. Due to COVID-19 import restrictions, it has taken a while but they are finally in. These loud shirts from the guys at 'TradeMutt' serve a very important task- to start a conversation. A percentage of the shirt cost is donated to TIACS, This Is A Conversation Starter. A charity raising awareness about mental health and providing solutions for those looking for help. For us, if wearing a shirt can help change the behaviour of an individual or even a community then it's a step in the right direction. With 25 per cent of construction workers having experienced mental illness over the last 12 months, tradies are six times more likely to die from suicide than workplace accidents. Times at the moment are particularly tough. Living in and working through a pandamic isn't easy on anyone. Now is when we need to stick together more than ever. Breaking a mould or stigma isn't going to happen overnight but something to work towards. Poor mental health doesn't have to be an embarrassing secret, it aint weak to speak. 10.01.2022 These clients had a Good Friday, same can't be said for their Saturday. Called out to look at a pump that was failing. The pump was mounted on top of the in ground concrete water tank which was surrounded by nice gardens. Investigations found that a sneaky tree root had made its way into the water tank and wrapped itself around the suction line.... The blockage caused the line to cavitate and compromised the elbow going into the pump. After clearing out the tree roots and replacing the connection to the pump it was up and running again. A very thankful client to have their water working again this Easter long weekend. #martechplumbing
09.01.2022 A day in the life of Martech Plumbing. Mitch and Trent ~ RICHMOND ... - Investigate blocked sewer. Found wastewater pump in collection well had burnt out causing tanks to overflow. Whilst there use inspection camera to reveal backfall and tree roots on the sewer pipes joining septic tank and collection well. Organise replacement pump for same day. ~ WILBERFORCE - Locate and repair a water leak inside the clients laundry wall space. The fitting had split on hot water pipe. Luckily being an external brick veneer wall little damage was done. ~ TENNYSON - Investigate blocked sewer. Use inspection camera and high pressure water jet to clear away tree roots. - Repair damaged wastewater transfer line - Replace kitchen sink mixer - Replace sediment filter for house water supply - Repair a kink in the suction pipe to the water pump - Look at the hot water system, installed in 1999. The heater is older than Trent. Discuss replacement options as performance is starting to decline. - Locate small water leak causing pump to constantly turn on and off to the annoyance of the client. - Replace deteriorated outlet washer on toilet - Service two leaking taps in the shower ~ RICHMOND - Back to replace burnt out pump with new vortex wastewater pump. Re-connect existing pipework, test and commission. Bob with help from JT earthworks and drainage. ~ KURRAJONG HEIGHTS - After having a failed septic system due to tree roots completely blocking the absorption trench the client has decided to move his septic system to a new location. Further away from the house as the original 'ugly' and 'smelly' tank is at the back door. - Bob and Jesse have decommissioned the old septic system and are now breaking through rock to excavate deep enough for the new septic tank.
07.01.2022 With much of Australia in a drought and a predicted change in rainfall patterns, water is becoming increasingly sacred. Every drop is starting to count. Rainwater Harvesting involves capturing the rainwater, condensation and dew from a roof and diverting it into a storage tank for future use. Using rain water has multiple benefits to the invidual and the community by:... - Reducing the cost on water infrastructure across the community - Coupled with the use of efficient appliances it can reduce household water bills - Reducing the costs of storm water management - Providing an alternative water supply during water restrictions This job required the installation of an above ground water tank so they could re-use rain water captured throughout the house. The water is pumped through a two stage filter and at the request of the client it goes through a UV light to help ensure the quality of the water. If you're interested in rainwater harvesting call Martech Plumbing and we can discuss your options and determine a system that will best suit your needs. #martechplumbing

01.01.2022 Another Friday special. Late afternoon call out to a Cafe with a blocked trade waste line. Further investigation found that the pump was completely blocked, and I mean completely.... The pump was hot to touch and close to burning out. Thankfully after a thorough clean of the discharge line and the impeller, things were back to normal. Back up and running within an hour of receiving the call. We spoke to the owners of the importance of regular servicing to prevent further issues as they are well aware of how crippling it can be to run a business that has no sewer. See more
01.01.2022 "Call me on your cellphone" - Drake, 2015 - also Martech Plumbing, 2020. We know when that hotline bling, it can only mean one thing. You're in need of a reliable plumber.... This phone, a Motorola circa 2003, was recovered from a blocked storm water pipe. The old 225mm clay pipe had collapsed causing dirt, broken pipe and rubbish to build up, blocking the line. As a result it was overflowing inside a factory. A quick blast of water at 3500 psi with our high pressure water jet and the line was temporary cleared until repairs can be made. In real terms, it takes approximately 1200 psi to cut through your outer skin layer, therefore when using this machine safety is paramount. For any storm water or sewer blockages, call us now. #martechplumbing
01.01.2022 World Plumbing Day An insight into how Martech spent World Plumbing Day 2021 Job 1... - Investigate water weeping out of a block wall, a corroded copper pipe was identified as the problem. Fabricate a part no longer manufactured to suit the existing installation. Reconnect the pipwork, test under pressure and recement the wall. Job 2 - Continual pump and water quality issues has meant we are in the progress of planning a thorough inspection on all pumps, valves and fittings. Job 3 - A combimation of surface water management and excavation to enable service access for roof maintenance to be carried out on some neglected roofs and gutters Plumb on
