20.01.2022 Just about every surfer or beachgoer has a favorite beach somewhere. A place that is so special to them. A place that they would fight to protect from environmental threats. This is Martha Lavinia. This my special place. One that I have visited some 18 times, most of those times, from across international oceans. This beach is sooooo special, the waves, even more so. A true oddity in the surf world. One that should be on the bucket list of every surfer, looking to experience ...all that the surfing life has to offer them. Please click the link on my bio today and read the attached article and watch the short film at the end. Then you’ll know why this beautiful place that remained a relative secret for so long must be saved from becoming the neighbor to a commercial fish farm of truly industrial proportions that will most likely change the place for the worse, for generations to come. SAVE MARTHA NOW! BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. *Thank you Matt at Hailer media for producing the attached article and Sean Doherty for producing the film along with Shorty. @seano888 @hailermedia @short_films_ @stugibson @mikeybrennan @patagonia @patagoniaaus @patagonia_surf @friendsofmartha https://surfsimply.com/nature/save-martha-lavinia/

18.01.2022 To all my friends in Australia and Scandanavia especially, Tell all your mates to get on this before it’s allowed to happen. This just in from @seano888 Norwegian company @equinor have officially announced their intentions to drill in the Great Australian Bight later this year. They’ll be 300km off the coast and drilling 5km down and it’s sketchy beyond belief. This is a map of their own spill modeling. Pretty much the whole surfable Austr...alian coast would be covered in oil. It would be Australia’s own Deepwater Horizon. We’ve got 30 days to stop this and if you surf you need to lend your voice. We need to bury them in protest. There’s a formal submission before NOPSEMA who are making the call on it... public comment link in bio, takes five minutes, let em know how you feel. Equinor are two-thirds state owned by the Norwegian government, so you need to get your Norwegian friends to make some noise at home. Equinor are particularly sensitive to criticism at home as they paint themselves as a clean energy company in Norway, but hide their dirty work half a world away in Australia. If you want some short term gratification send @equinor a message. They’re getting lit up over there at the moment. See more

17.01.2022 Here's a cool short film that Surfrider just put out about the importance of saving this incredible beautiful beach. Thanks Marg Barnes for sending it to me. https://vimeo.com/267774795

17.01.2022 Joe Curren stoked to have sampled the legendary waves of Martha Lavinia along with Kelly and ed back in 2001. Joe liked it so much, he also came back for another visit in 04.

17.01.2022 The man, the myth, the legend. This is Jeremy Wire Curtain, who back in the day, discovered the beautiful waves of Martha Lavinia along with his close mate Pete Mclean. Wire's no longer with us. He's been gone now for 5 and half years. He was my best mate and he cared about this place more than anywhere else. Through my friendship with Wire, this place became my favourite beach in the entire world. Let's not forget that there is a commercial fish farming company wanting to set up next door to this beautiful place. We must not allow this to happen.

16.01.2022 this was the cover of the 2008 Tracks yearbook. Further proof of how many people love this beautiful beach and its extraordinary waves.

16.01.2022 Margo deeeeeeeeep at Martha.

14.01.2022 Surfline.com just called Martha one of the 10 best beach breaks in the world. https://www.surfline.com/su/10-best-beachbreaks-earth/46138

12.01.2022 Beautiful from above also... pictures by Stu Gibson.

10.01.2022 I'm happy to announce that Patagonia's film; Nevertown, which featured King Island's jewel; Martha Lavinia beach just won one of the most prestigious awards; The Surfer Poll award for film of the year. Well done to everyone involved. It's a big deal. https://asbmag.com/patagonias-nevertown-wins-movie-of-the-/

08.01.2022 This from that little side trip to King island back in 2001 with Kelly Slater, Eddie Vedder, Joe Curren, and Derek Hynd. I tell ya, Hynd sure knows how to build a fire.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha4Cmx2rwoY

08.01.2022 Anyone who still doubts how incredibly important Martha Lavinia beach is, only has to consider that this beach has appeared on numerous magazine covers all over the world. These are just three of mine (all on an English magazine), but I know of a lot of other covers by other photographers, not to mention the hundreds of editorial pages given to this beautiful beach. Don't even consider this fish farm. Martha as we know it will cease to exist, physically, spiritually, and ps...ychologically. What the state gov't should do is put funds towards promoting this beautiful place as the island drawcard that it actually is and has been for the past 25 years for me, personally. They have done so in the past, even using one of my pictures of Martha's beautiful beach and waves to promote tourism. It is Martha that has drawn me to this little island all these years. Make no mistake. Every surfer who has ever had the opportunity to surf Martha on one of my many trips to the island has been enamored by this place and with great enthusiasm. I do encourage all other photographers who have photographed and published this extraordinarily place to chime in with their own covers or/and pictorials. It needs to be known and recognised, how important Martha Lavinia beach is and just how damaging and forever changing, it would be to have all those millions of Atlantic Salmon farmed right in the path of the swell that brings the magic sandbars and waves to Martha. Increased numbers of apex predators in the area are quite a concern, considering that Martha is an ocean goer's paradise, quite unlike any other. Those who have not yet signed the petition to the state gov't, please do go ahead and sign here: https://www.change.org/p/tasmanian-house-of-assembly-save-m Sean Davey Covers: 1 - Margo 2 - Kelly 3 - Rasta.

05.01.2022 Patagonoa's new film is currently playing for a short time at Swellnet.com. It shows Martha Lavinia in this film. Check it out. http://www.swellnet.com//swell/2018/03/30/watch-never-town

04.01.2022 The cows, they are eating the nutrient-filled kelp, while the waves keep rolling at little Porkys...

01.01.2022 The only time I ever saw this wave on the island surfed was back in 1998 with Flea, Lowey and Kieren Perrow. I distinctively remember the whole horizon going dark at one stage. That was a weird day.
