04.12.2021 Throwback! There’s been a long history of swimming in the location of the new Kwillena (dolphin) Gabi (waters) Pool on the Eastern Foreshore. This was the ...place where most of Mandurah’s young people learned to swim & was also a meeting place for local people & tourists to meet, play & restas it still is today. In 1965 Mandurah’s bathing sheds were demolished & the 'Robert Day Memorial Pool' was constructed, named after the first Chairman of Mandurah’s Shire Council. The pool was then demolished after the new & long-awaited aquatic centre opened in 1982, with the latest new Kwillena Gabi Pool completed late 2021, bringing back swimming to this site for this first time in almost 40 years. Eastern Foreshore 1940s to 1980s #throwbackthursday
