21.01.2022 Refreshing read from a resilience researcher on self-help versus what people really need to survive and thrive... Striving for personal transformation will n...ot make us better when our families, workplaces, communities, health-care providers and governments fail to provide us with sufficient care and support. The science shows that all the internal resources we can muster are seldom of much use without a nurturing environment. Furthermore, if those resources are not immediately at hand, we are better off trying to change our world to gain those resources than we are trying to change ourselves. See more

21.01.2022 Due to advances in technology and neuroimaging, we now know theres an actual shutdown in the speech language area of the brain after an individual experiences trauma. The process of art therapy bypasses the speech language issue (and) accesses the same sensory areas of the brain that encode trauma. Service members can use the art making to work through their experiences in a non threatening way. They can then apply words to their creations, integrating the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

10.01.2022 An important part of working as an arts therapist is maintaining a personal art practice. Thank you to Time Out Sydney for this article on my upcoming exhibition Landscapes from the Anthropocene.

09.01.2022 The Blue Mountains mayor opened the exhibition Im currently exhibiting in, giving a speech from the heart that was both courageous and empowering.

08.01.2022 "Only a few weeks ago, someone who was too scared to leave the house in case they contracted a fatal disease, and spent most of the day washing their hands and wiping down doorknobs, would have been regarded as having a severe case of OCD. Now it is the description of a responsible citizen. Never was there a clearer illustration of the fact that judgements about who is mentally ill are social, not medical ones. Never was it more obvious that distress makes sense in context. Abnormal situations lead to unusual or extreme responses. If we are fearful, then so we should be." https://www.madinamerica.com//we-are-all-in-this-together/

08.01.2022 An important large scale study on childrens mental health and time spent in nature/green space.... recently, researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark pub...lished yet another study about the outside/good health connection that may provide the most conclusive evidence yet. Getting outside, walking around, hearing the rustle of trees, feeling the wind on our face, the rain on our backs, the sun on our skinthe more we do that as kids, the happier we are as adults, their study suggests. And this was one heck of a study. See more
