25.01.2022 First of three tunings done, Steinway D at Townsville Civic Theatre for AFCM. Sounding lovely.
25.01.2022 Lifted from Pianogurus Instagram page This is what every piano tuner ever wishes they could say when the inevitable call comes in, 'Oh, I've just bought a beautiful old piano from market Place. How much do you charge for a tuning?' It's Christmas time coming up too folks and my shirt size is...... I'll let you guess See more
23.01.2022 Lifted off IG from Piano Charlotte. Don't forget to have your piano tuned
22.01.2022 Lachlan Cutler & I today cleaning up some workshop stuff. Sunday Funday at Martin's Piano Tuning & repairs. Hope next week is great for all. Hard to believe it's almost the end of the year.
22.01.2022 Huge photo upload. This has been the job for the past week or so. Piano is a Bluthner belonging to Marie & Trevor Bond (And I can't tag either of them). Piano got fairly well chewed upon by carpet beetle (not uncommon) a while ago & the pics show some of the work done to repair it all, including new dampers, butt cushions, return loops, rest felt, complete key bed felts & a Ddamp Chaser dehumidifier system. And not forgetting a few strings in the middle octave that broke on the pull up. Piano plays great & sounds terrific.
19.01.2022 This is a 130 year old Feurich piano that shows a serious amount of promise. (Apart from the fact that some GOON expressed his artistic prowess by spraying gold paint on the action parts & key sticks) In for some major refurb work - complete new action, top one & a half octaves restrung, new key bed felt, good old fashioned clean up of case work plus polish all brass & key tops. And, a bit of a sneak peak at the piano tuners work shop during the process It was spic & span before this job...believe me!
15.01.2022 Heaps of pics coming soon. This is the action out of a Bluthner upright that's had much refurbishment. The piano belongs to Marie Bond. The piano has had a Dampp Chaser dehumidifier installed & will wait for another week before tuning. Piano plays beautifully.
15.01.2022 Forget all the fancy bells & whistles. Just learn how to read music in the tried & true way... and play piano.
12.01.2022 Have you ever played on a piano that you've felt right at home at? If it had a smooth touch & you could get lovely dynamics from it, then odds are it was well looked after & maintained regularly. This little grand action is in this week for a bit of a once over. Jeanine Tegg
11.01.2022 It's surprising that these old pianos with antiquated actions (even in the day) still work as well as they do. This one was built in 1880. The oldest Broadwood I've seen here was built in 1850. I'll hopefully be doing some work on this old piano soon.
10.01.2022 The old fashioned 'Tap n go' bizzo that every DIY tuner needs.
10.01.2022 Here we go! Let's talk about Marketplace pianos. The first pic is the piano you SHOULD buy off Marketplace. It's been refurbed by a piano tech, is a reputable model & plays excellently. See the price? Well, that's what you pay for a GOOD piano. There's just no way around it, if you want a quality piano that's going to last. It's not always the case, but it mostly is. There's the odd diamond in the rough. Now for the other pianos - PLEASE have a GOOD look at them. See the comm...ents attached to the pics - just needs a tune, grand old piano, suitable for a beginner, couple of notes not working etc. I often use the car analogy...would you buy your P plater son or daughter a car without brakes, lights, indicators & bald tyres to cut their teeth on? Of course not! It's a similar thing with a piano. If you're heart is set on either you or your kids learning piano, then buy a decent instrument. Don't buy a worn out, old piano & think you've won the jackpot. Many people still do it. Wise folk ask a piano tech for advice or BUY a piano from a piano tech. It's a part of our job to make sure you don't end up with a lemon. See more
08.01.2022 Bit of a sad ol' site this. When I did my training in the 1970's, damaged actions like this would pop up from time to time. Now it's far more prevalent. Lots of these actions were installed in 1950's console pianos with rails that were never fully cured. Add to that nearly 300 rusty screws & what you end up with is an action that splits, screws that either fall out or seize & a piano that won't play well. Back in the day, they were called 'Green Actions.' But, if we can catch one of these in time, we can buy many years of extra time. If the screw threads are okay, I'll give them a bath in CLR overnight, wash in water, dry thoroughly then soak in WD40 again overnight. Plus blow out all screw holes with compressed air & fill them with wax before putting it all back together again. Have your piano tuned & serviced regularly.
07.01.2022 For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo And the king of all, Sir Duke And with a voice like Ella's ringing out There's no way the band can lose - Stevie Wonder.
07.01.2022 Tuning & some servicing of a Yamaha C3 at Pimlico State High School for the Townsville Community Music Centre Songs of Fire & Passion. Mark C Smith, (whom for some reason I also can't tag) General Manager at Townsville Community Music Centre is as much an exceptional organiser as he is a musician. We're glad you're here, Mark.
05.01.2022 Today, at an aged care residence, somewhere in sunny Townsville... Someone would've been a bit sad when they dropped their big bag of white powder into the ol' goanna
03.01.2022 Little Luigi Wilhelm overseeing some repairs to his Mum's old Wertheim piano this morning. He could be Wintons cousin Denise.
03.01.2022 Been a while since I posted anything at Martin's Piano Tuning page. I just finished a huge project on a very old Feurich piano (130 yrs old) I love it when owners send me a nice little message. Thanks Anne.
