25.01.2022 At the MCG for the tigers demons game a spectacle honoring our Anzacs

21.01.2022 This is a complete waste of ratepayer funds. No objections, fully supported by the heritage Council. But 6 elected members of the HCC being Councilors, Reynolds, Burnett , Harvey, Dutta, Sherlock & Ewin believe a lawn that could have potatoes planted on it being "the lawn" couldn't have a small cottage built on "the lawn" because of heritage reasons in particular that would not be seen? Really! so now the HCC and the residents will battle it out at the tribunal costing all ratepayers! Time for shake up of local government.

19.01.2022 So many coming together to feed the most vulnerable thank you

17.01.2022 Another two very satisfying days feeding those most in need

17.01.2022 I’m doing my part we are already tracked on what we buy or watch on line so if this will help us move forward with this catastrophe I’ll play my role I have no fear I want to see us ALL get back to normality ASAP so share it and get it going

17.01.2022 Happy Easter to all please stay safe

17.01.2022 The North Hobart Traders Association says council has put the cart before the horse by launching a consultation project before seeking expressions of interest for the Condell Place car park. http://bit.ly/37rGVxr

15.01.2022 Tonight at council during the commemoration debate for Ali Sultan the DLM Helen Burnett brought gender into the debate in that I was putting up a man to be commemorated. This is appalling in particular the only other person I have put forward in my near 30 years was a female that was the late Alderman Darlene Haigh so in fact the first person I ever put forward was a female and it should not be about gender it should be about the person so I can say that now it must a be gender balance with one female and one male! 13.01.2022 We are all wanting to get out of isolation and dine out expanding outdoor dining areas that the HCC controls may see it assist in the pathway forward for the industry and ensuring it meets the C19 regulations why not. Hopefully soon the 10 diners will grow to 20 and beyond. Maybe the hospitality industry may also embrace a "winter dine outdoors wonderland" and encourage diners outdoors considering the winter feats is not happening. Lets embrace it and help the hospitality industry out of this crisis.

10.01.2022 It’s time that we reduced councils from 29 to five the fear of amalgamations can be overcome the mindset that councils or cities taking over councils or cities the alternative and best option it total restructure 5 new regional council across the state in line with electorates ......streamlining he states political system and delivering an outcome of reducing 29 to 5 it’s a must

10.01.2022 In pursuit on the WAR on WASTE fight the HCC saved at least $40K tonight with the next stage of waste from the Halls saddle pipe dream halted. The ridiculous Halls saddle proposal for Mt Wellington was put on hold unless it is fully funded by Government not ratepayers. No doubt another attempt to waste ratepayer funds may make its way back but hopefully will be short lived. The fight for the WAR on WASTE will continue and I have no intentions of relenting

09.01.2022 The selection of a new General Manager is far too important a decision to be left to a small group, hand picked by the Mayor. It should be something which the e...ntire Council is involved in. What do you think? Hear the Lord Mayor's full interview with Leon Compton here: https://www.abc.net.au//programs/mornings/mornings/12737900

09.01.2022 Listen to the debate on the speed limits seems we have elected members who preach but don’t follow what they preach ....leadership is about demonstrating it not simply saying it !!!!!

07.01.2022 Fantastic to see young Tasmanian Alex Peroni git the podium in third place in his comeback race. Well done team Peroni and it was great to see a list of many Tasmanians shopping Alex around the track like others it was great to see my name on the car be it small lol ....right behind you Alex

07.01.2022 The culture of WASTE at the Hobart City Council is out of control. Ratepayers must get better for the huge rates they pay. WAR on WASTE costly wasteful reports after report many on issues not core business. Hobart needs to reign in rates and wasteful spending and get back to CORE business

06.01.2022 Hobart has lit up purple for Willow Hobart's Railway Roundabout, Aquatic Centre and the ABC building have been lit up in purple to put a smile on a very sick ...girl's face. Willow McShane is currently a patient in the Royal Hobart Hospital's pediatric ward and, according to her mum Sally, has been hoping to see from her ward window Hobart's iconic fountain be lit in a different colour. We're hope you're enjoying the view, Willow! Feel better soon More here: https://ab.co/3gesQYu

06.01.2022 A little bit of uplift for the most vulnerable during winter ...a good meal

06.01.2022 Ok time to be blunt and if I cop criticism for this post so be it......BUT it seems that there is lack of HCC leadership Where have our CITY leaders gone? Where is the Lord Mayor the spokes person for the Council??? it seems that the General manager is acting as the spokesperson and some other elected members who have been active and vocal over this period .....when the City needs leadership and direction.....seems that with climate change its an emergency but on a serious health and economic catastrophe grappling the city and state there is NO emergency this is my opinion ...and it needed to be raised ....OK now the criticism can start for being up front and to the point.....

06.01.2022 I cannot believe it tonight the HCC was considering an extension of time for a DA. This DA was approved and supported by council officers in 2018 and council itself. All the applicants are after is an extension of time to commence the DA...... it’s nothing new it’s about fairness equity reasonableness. 3 elected members demonstrated that being reasonable fair and equitable is not on ....sad as the HCC has done so in the past in providing extensions. The three in Question are The Lord Mayor Cr Ewin abd Sherlock I am bewildered that anyone would vote against a simple request to extend an approved DA absurd.

06.01.2022 Happy Easter have a peaceful and safe day and future

05.01.2022 This says it all

03.01.2022 Simply appalling ...the HCC parks committee approves to pursue a waste of 5.7 million on a carpark at the foothills of my Wellington what a farce in the current situation it’s a WASTE ratepayers of Hobart need to stand up and send a message to the elected members who must have a theory that money grows on green trees hypocrisy

03.01.2022 After some astonishing comments from the Lord Mayor that the Taste was completely cancelled for 20/21 to clarify the situation and also time for an re-evaluation of this most important event. How on earth anyone could misread a report is beyond belief. Last night the Council approved funding and the report for the General Manager being delegated to deliver an event for 20/21 as per his report. Attached is background overview and suggested forward direction for the event.

02.01.2022 This is not the time for pipe dreams the council must stop the WASTE as ratepayers are suffering enough from the pandemic as it is let alone even considering a $5.7 million dollar spend on a carpark in the wrong place for starters ......and what’s the difference if it’s ratepayer or taxpayer funds ....ratepayers are taxpayers ......this is one for another time .....far more important projects than this one

02.01.2022 THE MERCURY EDITORIAL SPOT ON Appalling actions by Elected members in particular the Lord Mayor for allowing the motion in the first instance. This is not the first time this charade has been pushed by a certain group of elected members and the Lord Mayor up to her ears involved. Appalling appalling outrageous!!!!!! Read the editorial HEIGHT OF ABSURDITY SOME Hobart City Councillors last night tried to pass an amendment to the planning scheme to adjust planning heights on t...he fly. It was concerning to hear the debate rushed through and surprising to see four elected officials vote in favour of it, including Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds, despite the fact the council was still waiting for advice from officers on the full implications of those changes. Importantly, officers need to explain what the social and economic implications of planning scheme changes might be. It was further perplexing that the motion was deemed urgent by the councillor who moved it Bill Harvey given the council just elected to reject a planning application for a controversial development at Macquarie Street despite officer recommendations that said it should be approved under the current planning scheme. The contentious 30m-high apartment development was planned for the site of a former petrol station near private girls’ school St Michael’s Collegiate. More than 600 objections were lodged in relation to plans for the 40-apartment residential and commercial complex. A Hobart City Council planning officers’ report has recommended the council approve the $36m Macquarie Street Apartments development, which would include a first-floor childcare centre and two groundfloor commercial spaces. But it was last night rejected by the council. Those who argued against approving that application were at pains to say that councillors do have the right to use their discretion to approve or reject projects even if they do fit the Hobart City Council planning scheme. So which is it? The Hobart City Council needs to provide better consistency for both residents and developers. Clearly the planning scheme at present has some inadequacies that don’t fit the aspirations and expectations of our city and its residents. And clearly it’s not in the best interests of the business community to be flying blind when it comes to trying to invest in Tasmania’s capital city. But that’s no reason to try to rush through amendments without fully understanding the implications of them, especially given the propensity for the majority of councillors to ignore it in decision-making anyway. Whether you agree with the decision to reject that particular apartment complex or not, last night the council failed to provide a clear direction. It was right that the amendment to change the planning scheme tabled by Mr Harvey was lost. But it’s abundantly clear the council needs to amend its key planning document and then to stick with it for the benefit of all parties involved. See more
